It is a good deal for the High SChool since most of these kids will end up playing there one day and gret for the youth football players and the community.

Yes, these kids will play football in a few years for CASHS, so it is a good idea to allow them the opportunity to play in Trojan Stadium. A good high school program starts with the local youth program and we know how the high school program has been lately. This is an opportunity for the high school coach to positively influence these kids and be their host at "his" home field. The cheerleaders will also benefit by performing at games in Trojan Stadium.

Mr. Snider, since you are new to the board, get your facts straight. It was not a turnover in the board that stopped them from playing at the high school. It was the renovations to the stadium that forced the Steelers to play at Faust. There were never any problems with the Steelers and the school district, in fact they recommended to us to play at Faust. if there was a problem do you really think the steelers would have been afforded another district field??? geesh

get your facts straight before you run your mouth! And the Steelers NEVER had problem paying their money to the District for use of Trojan stadium. Why do you need to come in now and request it be waived?
There should be more than enough money in that account to cover paying the school something!

didn't the steelers get the boot off of fausts field and have to play at henninger a few years ago? the field was like only 85 yards long and only had 1 goalpost..sad

I am not in favor of them paying nothing, but why not a reduced rate of say $250.00 per game. That should at least help compensate for the school district employee that would be required to be there. A three year lease sounds pretty realistic to me. It doesn't really matter where they've been, it's where they are going to be that counts. Let's get those kids on the big stage. Let's also get the Trojan coaching staff involved, with a physical presence in these youth programs.

the first thing the trojan football coach should do is elimninate these community teams and start a youth program geared toward playing highschool football, CV has been doing it for years and look at their program. the problem with community teams is they are always out to beat each other and are running a system that's totally different than the highschool system, by the time the kids get to faust they've been brainwashed to have a hatetred to anyone from a different commmunity team.

Some of the youth team coaches do not want to work under the CASHS coach...they lose their "power" on their own team. The CASHS coach wants all the teams to start teaching certain plays, etc he has chosen so that when they get to him they have the fundamentals of how his system works. A few midget coaches feel they know better what the kids need.

It is a power struggle and the kids will pay the price

Uh, the Hamilton Jaguars have not played games at "a field in South Hamilton." They have played home games in the field behind the administration building in town (that the high school uses for phys ed classes & Trojans football practices). The Jaguars practice at the ballfields on Warm Spring Rd. I have heard that they were to be putting in a football field there though?

Thank you to the first two who responded. By allowing the youth football teams to play at Trojan Stadium, we will be preparing these kids to play for CASHS some day. The parents of these kids already pay registration fees, fundraise, etc. Much of this doesn't even begin to cover insurance, equipment, and the like. These same taxpayers have already paid for the glorious Trojan Stadium. Many teams in the KYFCL struggle for places to practice and/or play, and ALL four of teams have to jump through hoops to get adequate facilities, ie. we have played in cow pastures!
These four community teams were united enough to help make this happen. These kids are encouraged to attend Caruther's football youth camp and there has been a "Midget Football/Cheerleading night" at Trojan stadium the last couple years.
I know for a fact that the Gridiron Club and The KYFCL have a postive working relationship in an effort to unite Chambersburg Football from top to bottom.
This is a significant step towards progress that has been many years in the making.
As, far as CV goes, your WET behind the ears- their youth football program isn't what it may appear to be and should not be used as a measuring stick.

A few clarifications.
I would not normally add or reply to a blog like this because it usually only inflames the situation.
I was given a call and asked a few questions regarding the recent proposal to the school board.
The four organizations are working together for the benefit of all the kids involved.
The other teams will very likely utilize the stadium this year for at least one game each if the school board approves the proposal. If it is approved we will work together much earlier next year to allow more utilization of the field.
To previous Steeler Boards. I intended no ill will. I stated that the Steeler teams played at Trojan stadium when I first arrived in this area about 13 years ago and I did not know why they had to leave. I stated that maybe it was a turnover in the board or something else, I did not know. So I apologize that it came across in this article as blaming a previous board.
Thanks to all of the community that supports these youth.

I am curious as to why some feel these teams should play for free. A nominal fee should be required to at least pay the expenses of district employees that need to be present and general cleanup that needs to be done after any event. People are messy and leave trash, use bathrooms (toilet paper, etc.), perhaps even use concession stands.

I know, as taxpayers, we already paid for the stadium to be built, but upkeep and supplies do cost something over and above what the stadium cost and could become quite pricey if not monitored.

We are not requesting a waiver of all fees. Just the rental and gate fee. So something will be paid. Generally this will be $200.00 - $400.00 per game.

Then I do not see what the problem is here. It is community property, let's use it as such!

When they give the YMCA millions for their pools that will not be the case.

The future of High School football start at this level to have children excited about playing on their future field only keeps their dreams of playing at the next level fresh and exciting. Every child who plays any sport has hopes of playing on the next level.
