bigkahuna wrote: <quoted text> So you are stating that RCR has inferior equipment and drivers, hendricks has it all? Many fans do point to Jr, he has to shoulder the blame as well as the things that happened at DEI and Tony JR for poor performances. Just because people root for a driver, does not make them lemmings. I applaud Jr's statement's when he was coming to Hendrick's... you need your driver to WANT to win races, championships and have that confidence to succeed. That is a given. Detractors of Jr's will never be satisfied with whatever he does. There will always be degrogatory comments about his: Living off his father's name (he can't change it, it's his name too!), doesn't have talent (he couldn't drive cup if he didn't have talent), etc, etc, etc. Jr fans will continue to root for him and the majority of us do that without blinders on. Answer to question #1, first, have you ever been involved with a racing team at any level? I did not say that RCR has inferior equipment or drivers, what I did say was that Hendrick is on the cutting edge of technology and new equipment. Did you know that Hendrick did a lot of the original testing on the COT? This was one of the reasons the Hendrick cars were so superior in the first year of so of the new car, they had an advantage on the technology curve. Older more established teams do tend to hold onto tried, proven and at times dated technology as proven by the teams of Bud Moore, The Woods, Petty Enterprise, Darrel Waltrip and many other teams that have either gone under or non competitive anymore. A technology advantage can be as simple as, by mistake, finding that an angled drive plate on the rear can be an advantage as proven by the historical run Harry Gant had at the end of this career. Right now, Hendrick is more on the cutting edge of engineering with the four post machine and time and money spent in special experimental products that may or may not pan out as far as racing. I will bet that you do not remember the car Jeff Gordon had one year in the Winston that was (although built by the rules) was so superior in advanced chassis design that NASCAR told Hendrick not to bring it to any points races for the rest of the year. Advanced technology is a dollar and cents issue and at this time Hendrick has access to more money than most, if not all, of the other teams.

Jr fans will continue to root for Jr regardless of his performance this year. I don't put him on any pedastool. He is my favorite driver..period. Mikey is my next fave driver, enough said. Fans like their drivers for different reasons. There are fans of all drivers who make excuses for poor performances, it seems more Jr fans do it because guess what? He has more fans. He has really sucked this year, and each week I hope he gets better. I am glad that Mikey is just in the top 35.

No disrespect intended, but isn't it the primary goal of NASCAR to make sure that everybody has equal equipment? If one particular operation was able to have superior equipment wouldn't that be considered cheating in the scheme of the basic premise of NASCAR where the superior driver is supposed to win?

But Dale Jr. is not an athlete. None of them are. They are skilled at the manipulation of a cars controls at fast speeds and for prolonged amounts of time, but to suggest NASCAR drivers are "athletes" is absurd.
The whole "three hours in 140 degree temperatures, inches apart at 200 miles per hour", and "You should see Mark Martin's work out regimen", and "These guys all work out and have no time outs" is NASCAR junky, repetitive mantra horse hockey.
NASCAR drivers are guys that get paid a lot of money to drive around in circles fast. Lost of people could do it.

Most of the drivers are mentally and physically exhausted. I've seen some of them barely able to speak to the media afterwards. Yes, they are athletes.

If one particular operation was able to have superior equipment wouldn't that be considered cheating in the scheme of the basic premise of NASCAR where the superior driver is supposed to win? Superior equipment, interesting concept, in the NASCAR world superior equipment equates to the ability of a team to be able to tweak spec, items to behave more like custom items. Most people who just have an outside TV type knowledge of NASCAR do not understand the subtle differences in the seemingly similar cars on the track. Two teams can take two identical bodies, that must fit the "NASCAR Claw" and make them different in the way they attach them to the chassis either in yaw or slight difference in front to rear angle. The front suspension can be made to operate different by "minute" changes in caster, camber or by which corner is just 1/8th to 1/4 leading or trailing. We have not even gotten into the issue of cambered rears and rear drive plates. The superior equipment is not an issue of being able to purchase superior equipment, it is the ability to know the exact way to put it together to make the sum of the parts as perfect and just a little better than the other cars. These abilities are obtained from hours, upon hours spent on shock dynos, testing at non NASCAR tracks, computers as well as four post shakers and other types of machines. This all takes time and vast amounts of money and this is where the mega teams are so superior to the smaller teams.

Nope never driven the car or know any minutia details about the parts and how to make it go faster. Don't need to, as I understand from hearing drivers, announcers, cc's etc speak about the car that it is very finicky. At times Hendricks cars have it all going and other times they do not. The car changes based on the tracks that they run on and quite a few drivers in Sprint cup have difficulty with the car. Jr is one of them, but not the only one and yet it all points back to him as not being good. However, there are 39 other drivers most weekends and a good portion of them have troubles with the car. Why always be pointing to JR? that's the bottomline, why always him?

Now Texas is one huge state, so not all the people are the rudest you have ever seen. I spent 5 months in Texas (DFW area) and everyone I was around were really great people and such. I was just visiting a friend there, trying to determine if I wanted a job they were offering. I went out for a walk and got lost. Several people stopped me and asked if they could help, even a woman watering her lawn said she'd DRIVE me back to my friends house. Now, I didn't speak to everyone in Texas, and I'm sure there are rude people there, just like every where. My experience with Texas (even the heat) just makes me want to pack up and move back there. I'll agree on the roads, those superhighways with the extremely high on/off ramps are something else and my experiences with people down there, they cannot drive on ICE for nothing!

Walter Peyton attempted to drive race cars and was mostly a flop, even in very low level racing, he must not have been one of the "Lost of people". Burl is here on the computer instead of making the millions that is made in NASCAR, he must not be one of the "Lost of people". NASCAR drivers are full of money, Burl is full of excrement.
