I think you get the message, maybe.

I'm sure you are on the list as someone to have a cookout and a beer with. |

This is discusting! Black bears are harmless and it doesn't sound like the police even tried to contact DNR! This cop hit the bear with his patrol car?!?!?!? Shame on him. He should be fired! Anyone ever hear of a dart gun!

Obviously the cop was instructed to take the bear out. An officer has to radio for permission in every situation unless it is life threatening.
I love all the armchair experts sitting here judging. All of you are guilty of judging the situation as if you know the whole story, you only read a newspaper article. I bet you all believe Irag had WMD's because you read it or heard it on the news. Suckers. Just a bunch of cattle, quit Moo-ing and drink your grape kool-aid. How would you feel if it were in your yard or maybe had attacked your dog? It wasn't afraid of humans which puts it in a new category. Vegetarian don't wander into neighborhood when there is so much to eat this time of year. |

Couldnt they of just called animal control instead of shooting the bear multiple times and running it over with a squad car? Wow, what great job by Battle Creeks finest! Iam sure that bear was causing a lot of trouble at 2 in the morning, idiots.

Nice to see all the comments here about the reason (or lack thereof) for shooting and killing this bear. My gut reaction was total disgust that the animal ended up dead. Guess I'm not alone. Sounds like the cops just let the excitement of the situation get out of control. There is absolutely no reason for this bear to be tortured and then killed. Hit it with his car? Come on !!!! Have to wonder if someone really "ordered" the cops to take the bear out. I doubt it. Hopefully there will be an investigation, and heads should roll. Poor scared bear.

Poor little bear.
This was unnecessary cruelty. |
So your saying this cop was instructed to hit the bear with his petrol car?!? Your a f*cking idiot. Your also claiming that black bears are not vegetarians when indeed they are. also you say that the black bear was not afraid of humans, so thats why he hid in a tree right? Grow a brain and a set of eyes. |

Couldnt they have just called animal control instead of shooting it multiple times and running over it with a squad car? Wow, great job by Battle Creeks finest.....what idiots. Iam sure that bear was causing major trouble at 2 in the morning. Sounds like someone was a little too eager to use their gun.

What's with the cops, hitting Black living beings while in pursuit, with their cars? Seems there is a pattern. |

The bear was killed one block from the High School, Middle School, and two blocks from an elementry school. It was the right thing to do, with the limited time avaliable before the kids all start for school in the morning.
Police departments do not normally have tranquilizer guns, or the training to use them. Hitting a 250 lb bear with pepper sparay or a Tazer would take an really big set of huevos, and would likely *REALLY* anger the bear. Keep up the good work BCPD! |

Parents of Battle Creek.....Do not allow your Children to dress in a Bear Costume at Halloween.

He wasnt 250lbs! 150 at most. I shot myself with a horse traquilizer once, right in the neck. |

Where's PETA when you need them? These "officers of the peace" sound like they had a rip roaring good time torturing this animal. They should be fired for this. If the bear was hurting someone or something it would be different. But to shoot it just because you can is positively barbaric. So much for our country evolving.

Might still be working?:) |

They better check there scales. Based on the pictures there is no way that bear weighs more thant 150 lbs. I'm sure it was last years cub, and would have moved on without ever doing any harm.

From the Michigan DNR:
What is the diet of the black bear? In one word - everything. Black bear are considered opportunistic feeders, taking advantage of many seasonally available foods. Bear eat succulent, new green vegetation in the spring after they leave their dens. Colonial insects, such as ants and bees, may make up over half of their diet in late spring and early summer. Black bear experience rapid weight gain in years when wild berries, which are high in sugars and other carbohydrates, are available beginning in mid summer. Nuts and acorns, because they are high in fats and protein, are the best fall foods for bear when preparing for their winter's sleep. If given the chance, black bear will supplement their natural diet with human garbage, pet foods, birdseed, or any foods placed to feed or attract other wildlife. Notice..NOT People, NOT Children, NOT Dogs or Cats! Black bear are shy by nature! I usually like cops, but THIS pi$$es me right off that they took this innocent bear out. Too bad cops don't have this kind of trigger finger when they chase gangbangers in the streets. They are MUCH more dangerous than the black bear! |

SO what ever happened with the domestic disturbance, did they forget all about that the second they saw the bear...More people have died from domestic disturbances in the last 100 years than they have from bear attacks, specially baby bears.
