It doesn't matter what they add or take away....

If fish peed in it I won't drink it!

Most of us folks who have wells would rather drink out of a mud puddle than drink Grand Rapids city water.(And Muskegons is no better)

Pretty bad when you can taste chlorine and fluoride in the fountain drinks at Burger King!

Yup. When I smell that I think, hmm they must have found another dead body in the Grand.

Curiously, we had fluride in the water growing up and all had mouthfuls of cavities, but my daughter and son both drink the same water, and my daughter, 19, has never had a cavity, and my son has had several(he's 14) I think it has to do more with the kind of teeth you have.

Flouride in water? Let's see good teeth & learning disbilities, or less learning disabilites & bad teeth? Grand Rapids was one of the first to put lots of flouride in the water and even have plaque (pun intended) over by the River by the Campu Square inbetween the Campua square building & the NEw Marriot, they plaques claim with no ill or obvious side effect however long term brain and learning disability studies were not down. It is interesting to note that a lot of Grand Rapids residents that were born in Grand Rapids, live here, drank the water when little, went to k.o.h.s.(Kent Occupation High School), a special ed high school). However not all but most have good teeth. As for rural areas, I grew up in Texas in a rural area, we had treated well water, with very little flouridein any until required by govermentrequired, very few people have learning disabilites, however more have bad teeth and you have to brush more often. I think the need to too effect of large amounts of flouride or repeated use of flouride casuing learning disabilites or retardation.
As for Grand Rapids water, they have put some much clohrine in it lately, you can spell it coming out of the sink. But that's whole other issue.

Teeth? I drank Grand Rapids water for 20 years until I moved to the country and in a year I had my first cavity since I was in my tweens. Fluoride is a natural part of groundwater. Those areas that have high levels of fluoride have less incidences of tooth decay. Those with little or no fluoride have statistically higher incidences of tooth decay. Keep the fluoride in the water. If you want to blame the water supply blame in on bottled water, pop, and less efforts of parents to enforce brushing in their kids. If you want to blame it on learning disabilities, then look no further than our "plugged in" life style. Take the kids off the game station, the TV, the computer and learning disabilities will dramatically decrease.

Flouride is not just a natural part of groundwater, but also Lake Michigan water. Testing raw Lake Michigan water shows a low level of flouride. Grand Rapids adds flouride to bring the level up to the one part per million that is recommended for cavity reduction.

Flouride is like many of the chemicals used in our lives, including vitamins and trace minerals, that can be deadly in high concentration levels, but are safe at low levels or trace amounts. Even pure water (distilled) cna kill you in large enough quantities, but it is necessary for you to stay alive.

Up here, we use nothing but Ice Mountain water. We not only drink the stuff, but take showers, do laundry, all kinds of uses for the stuff.

Must be from the same aquifer that Ice Mountain pumps their water from. As it's groundwater, it very likely has flouride in it.

Yup, same aquifer. But regardless of what's in it, this stuff has a lot less of everything the water being pumped out of Lake Michigan has, then only to be mixed with that soup they "purify it" with. No Thanks.

Just guessing here. I bet that you had lots of fluoride in your water. That would explain your command of the English language.

"Someone" must think putting fluoride in toothpaste is a bad idea. Has anyone ever read the packaging on child toothpaste? No fluoride. Now, why is that? Because it might be ingested? What harm could that do? Just wondering...

Flouride, like so many of the chemicals in our world, is safe in small amounts, but dangerous in larger amounts. A child, especially a very young one, is more likely to ingest what, for a human his/her size, could be a harmful amount.
