I can tell you that after 8 years of putting myself through college and working hard to achieve all that I have professionally, I would be offended to be referred to as "sweetie". It would be just as offensive to me as the "N" word is to people of color. If the man plans to run this country he has to do better than that. It was an incredibly stupid and insensitive thing to do.

I'm right there with you, four years of hard work through college, four years of working my butt off to move up in a male dominated career field, and I still get called sweetie everyday...perhaps I should contact NOW?

It's a word, and it DEFINITELY cannot be compared to the use of the N word. Now had he called her a b*tch, or h*e then maybe I could see where the uproar was coming from. But sweetie? We really need to revisit our priorities in this country.

If you had watched the clip you would have noticed that it was condescending and dismissive. He certainly would not have spoken to a male journalist that way. It was unprofessional and careless. These are two things that the next president of our nation should avoid.

I think this persons comment sums is up pretty well. If Obama wants to be president then he needs to address the audience he is talking to. If it is school age children sweetie is probably okay. If it is a grown up crowd sweetie is probably not okay.
The simple fact is that if you are in the public view every word you say is going to be looked at under a microscope and analyzed whether you are democrat or republican. How many times have you heard Bill Clinton's, "I did not tell a lie" repeated? Or, a parody of Bush and Cheney being done with Bush looking like a silly cowboy? SNL and late night TV would not have as good of material if it wasn't for things like this.

Am I going to fret over this? No. There are certainly bigger things to be concerned about.
