From The Drug Project.

Deaths in the United States in a typical year are as follows:

* Tobacco kills about 400,000
* Alcohol kills about 80,000
* Workplace accidents kill 60,000
* Automobiles kill 40,000
* Cocaine kills about 2,500
* Heroin kills about 2,000
* Aspirin kills about 2,000
* Marijuana kills 0

There has never been a recorded death due to marijuana at any time in US history.

All illegal drugs combined kill under 20,000 per year, or a small percent of the number killed by alcohol and tobacco.

Tobacco kills more people each year than all of the people killed by all of the illegal drugs in the last one hundred years.

From: The National Center On Addiction And Substance Abuse at Columbia University.

The Califano Report

Drug Prisoners

* 1,360,000 Drug Prisoners in America
* 1.7 million Americans are incarcerated in prisons or jails, more per capita than any other nation.
* Nearly 80% of all prisoners in America are for drug related offenses.
* Ten million people have been arrested for marijuana since 1965.

Lets focus on the real criminals please, and lighten our prison system's load.

Go bust a Crack house or a Meth lab **** is wrong with you people. You want to wage a war on Drugs then do so on drugs not on plants. All that pot would have done less damagae than one corner liquor store would in a weekend. Its crazy to think that there are known Crack houses by the police but they would rather waist time "investigating" and busting pot.

Not that I disagree with you....I don't really know if I do or not actually, but at least they were doing more than pulling over their quota of 10 traffic stops per shift!

As many streets as I've traveled in all my years, I've never once seen any MJ lying on the side of one.

"off the streets" is meaningless.

It is against the law.
He is trying to profit from it.
He is a criminal.
He belongs in prison.
He is a ditch person.

Ditch people, regardless of race or origin, would be living in the ditch if it wern't for charity or crime.

Ditch people have a distinct lack of class. To a ditch person, it is ok to be a ditch person. They like it because there aren't many expectations for a ditch person, and it's a lot more fun to be bad than it is to be good.

A nationwide 3 strikes law, actually trying to stop illegal immigration, and stop breeding like animals if daddy isn't going to stick around, would make all the difference in the world.

You dopeheads who say pot is harmless are not being intellectually honest..and you know it.

Why not be sincere and say "I wanna smoke dope until my brain liquifies"? I'd at least respect you for being honest.

Yep--never a single person killed in a pot dope deal gone bad or a car accident.

Because alcohol doesn't cause any traffic related deaths? You people are ridiculous. If legalized, there would still have to be laws about driving impaired just as there are laws about drinking and driving, DUH

If cannabis was legalized, you wouldn't have as many drug deals to worry about....there'd still be good ol' meth and crack to deal with let's not kid ourselves. And I am betting most drug deals gone wrong aren't about cannabis, they are about cocaine and other serious drugs.

I agree that this was too much for casual usage.
He deserves what he gets. Moving on ...

I agree that casual use should not be illegal. Keep it out of the work place, children's lives, and behind your locked doors. What a person does on his own time is his business. Of course, it would be legal if they could find a way to tax it.
Wake up people, Congress, DA's, Judges, and police all use. Teachers, Preachers, etc. It is hard to find someone that doesn't.

Yep, this country has lost its sense of humor, I am off to Amsterdam where it is accepted as a soft drug, (for those young at heart) yep, I would get some of that purple stuff, yep, might even pay a paltry tax on it but thats okay, yep, might even get some extremely tasty pastries as well, yep, they are better in the early morning, you can smell fresh bread mmmm, yep, going to Amsterdam, too bad, I think they have tax on it too. Purple is my favorite, Ciao.

Hey there Captain, your a little out of the loop. The "Coffee houses" have been made to go smoke free by the Dutch government. This has virtually eliminated the smoked pot trade. Now they are trying to outlaw cookies, brownies, ect,that contain pot.

Too bad you don't keep up on current events. Have a nice flight moron.

Indirect deaths from cannabis? Of course. Direct deaths? Zero.

Alcohol has thousands upon thousands of both direct deaths, and thousands upon thousands of indirect deaths.

It's a helluva lot easier to be killed while driving drunk than it is while driving stoned. One makes you cautious, the other makes you wreckless.

Why don't you prohibitionists be sincere and say "I really don't believe that cannabis should be illegal for public safety and health reasons. Only a complete moron would believe that alcohol is less harmful than cannabis. Instead, I just like it because it allows for the incarceration of minorities and people with different political and cultural beliefs than me."

I understand the sentiment though. I despise all the violent, drunken, screaming, wife-beating, fratboy,**** alcoholics of this world, but that doesn't give me legitimate reason to want them incarcerated. Laws should be based on one person infringing upon the other, and not a grown-up version of a high school clique mentality.
