Hey Ahmed! Stop making generalizations, you are just adding to the ignorance that this COUNTRY is known for.
As for the police doing this -- seriously? Riots?

Wesleyan students busted at party

At this party, the remaining students on campus were mostly of drinking age, as most of the undergrads had left campus earlier in the day. And don't tell me that you've ever seen a drunk and fearful adult calmly react to police presence, because I haven't. The outlandish behavior should not be tolerated but remember, fear leads to irrationality. Understand that. Again, police should be trained to handle drunk people more effectively, and they just chose the simplest option of force (which turned obsessive) instead of trying to figure out how they could better handle a very drunk crowd of students. |

This was an outrageous and unprecedented attack. Outdoor parties occur regularly at Wesleyan when the weather gets warm enough, and on a block of over 40 senior houses with large back yards, a crowd of 200 is not "unruly" or even close to a mob... its average.
The cops are rarely called to break up such parties and students always make their way home... campus safety can get the job done on their own, they were probably just (in their minds) making a statement because they know the week leading up to graduation will have many more (well-deserved!) parties. I know at least 4 people were bitten by police dogs, only 2 of them hospitalized. dozens of students this morning have scars from tasers, pellets, and people had to get medical attention from reactions to the tear gas. It was ugly and TOTALLY out of line. Middletown Police department has a tense relationship with Wesleyan students these days after some serious issues of police brutality in the past years... Officer Clarke of Middletown is notorious for his breach of civil liberties. Please write a more balanced article, and do your homework. You have a responsibility to tell the truth. |

On the other side of the street, I saw a police car accelerate towards my two friends who had to jump off out of the way to avoid the car hitting them. If you think that falls under necessary force, I don't know what to tell you, that's absurd man.

Go back to where ever you came from. None of my successful friends went to college. It's a complete waste of four years. The education establishment has BSed the population into thinking that without their product, your life is a total waste. Professors are pepole who aren't smart enough to do anything contructive, so they end up teaching. I do my own finance, my own marketing, and while I'm forced by law to use lawyers, I tell them what to do and how to do it. All lawyers are overpaid paper pushers, and just like teachers, they're not smart enough to have a real job. The situation at Weslyan proves what colleges are good for. Drinking, drugs, sex, and mayhem |

This last poster has serious issues. Sounds like he's angry, but at the Jews? Why?

Please note: 1. Finals are over, and I'm pretty sure I did well on them. 2. I'm posting from the Bronx, NY so I obviously wasn't there if I'm here right now. 3. You haven't given me a reason as to why I suck, but just used a bunch of inflammatory language to make your baseless point. Good job, I hope you're proud of yourself. /fail Stupid troll is stupid. |

I think the tin foil on your head is just a weeee bit too tight. |

Yes some students were being out of control and rude to the police...but then there were plenty of others who were just standing there watching it happen. I literally put myself in between incoming tear-gas fire and a group of girls that were doing NOTHING. I had to help one get up because she was coughing so hard because she's asthmatic and if someone hadn't had an inhaler she would have had to go the hospital.
Not to mention the tazer, the dogs, the police punching kids in the face for no reason, the rubber bullets, the pepper spray....I wish I could say the party was so crazy that this was necessary but it wasn't. We weren't doing anything unlawful except blocking a road, which doesn't have any thru-way traffic. I hope one of your stupid **** loses your jobs. |

A cop tells you to disperse..You DISPERSE...Period.
|
|
Well, I guess that i'm the next exception. I work and take care of my son with no help. No child support and no college either. |
|
|
THEY NEVER TOLD US TO DISPERSE. If they had went on their little loudspeaker and told us to leave maybe they'd have some justification, but they were just sitting there with their long line of squad cars.
Oh and also OfficerFriendly...way to threaten us in your comment, I believe poppin a cap in your **** is a phrase used to describe MURDER. I hope you're the first one fired. |

Ahh, the cost of higher education

Can't help thinking that maybe there was some one-up-manship between the state police, the local police, and the the university's personel. Query: who had the command?
|
|
Your own schools blog said that they told you to disperse several times |

word to the wise from a 70's partier
if you at a party and wasted and the cops show up exit....stage left they did not come to have a beer |

There is nothing like facing a snarling police dog that to turn a smart-but-passive student into a superb civil rights lawyer or human rights activist.
It's one thing to read about police states in poli sci classes, and quite another to personally see the results of police power gone out-of- control. Thankfully, this was a relatively trivial incident. No one was seriously hurt or killed. But students, take note: There is more to life than working for Goldman Sachs. Take your brains and your passion and do something good for the world. The alternative--a world full of people who blindly accept and obey police orders--is unthinkable. |

ohh and
if you read the Bill of Rights and understand it you have the right to nothing you think you do you have the right to an attorney you are free to excercise any religion you want or none at all you are free to assemble peacefully you have freedom of speech you do not have the right to do anything you want anyway you want anytime you want it is not in there we are so confused as a society over our supposed rights |

Obey the law its that simple, you as a Wesleyan student are not above the law. When officers are being assaulted it takes it to another level. |

Funny really - ive had a few run in with the police back when I was at college parties. The cops told us to leave and we left. We never got tased or had pepper spray.
Nobody to blame but yourselves. |
