For real!! this person must go to church too much ok? You take another person's life, why should he still be alive? You know what? What goes around, comes around and if people don't like us thinking this way then, don't read our comments then!! Too bad! I don't feel sorry for someone who's taken another humans life, no matter how they did it or why! There's no excuse for it!

Are any of you commenting listening to yourself? So the man made a bad choice, a terrible choice in his life, but does that give any of you the right to say he deserved this? Violence only breeds more violence. You should be ashamed of yourselves. No one is beyond redemption, not even a murderer. The value of life isn't measured by our mistakes, because our mistakes are what make us inherently human. Now I don't agree with him murdering that boy and mother, but that is something he needed to deal with in his soul. A person that says any living thing deserves to die, or be beaten in the way this man was, is just guilty of fueling the violence that is seen in our world today.

Undoubtedly, some posters to this blog consider me a bleeding heart liberal. Do I believe our justice system is perfect? No, so I worry the death penalty can be mis-applied. Some people, however, seem a perfect fit.
As for this attack, I'm just glad his attacker also was on death row so the attack shouldn't affect his residency plans at Somers.

Good god, what happened to Connecticut? And more importantly what happened to this country? It seems like many people have become a bunch of sissies, who do nothing but coddle and appease the criminal element and find ways to excuse or justify a criminals actions. Look, in case those who want to pander to this criminal forgot, this person who you call human didn’t care about two other humans and was convicted of killing these two humans who were witnesses to his prior criminal act. He should be put to death for his actions, but seeing how liberal the politicians and others are in this state he’ll sit there at tax payer expense for 30 or 40 years or until the liberals get the death penalty abolished. He obviously has no remorse for his past actions and any he shows now will only serve to get convince some liberal to get his sentencing changed to life in. And as we all know “life in prison” in this state means he could be out to kill again in 5 or 10 years.

I used to consider my self a liberal but I guess I’m not when I look at the people who call themselves “liberals” now who are so far left leaning that they’ve fallen off the planet. Its these “liberals” are the very same people that wish to disarm us law-abiding citizens from defending ourselves from these very criminals. Like giving this, or any, criminal a hug will solve the problem.

This could be the next reality show. Let all the death row inmates be in a death match, the winner will be taken off deathrow and placed in solitary for the remianer of his or her life..

I think the answer to overcrowding prisons is this:

Take all the inmates. Give them a bat. Put them into an arena and let them at it. Put the whole thing on Pay Per View and give the proceeds to crime victims' families. The one who survives wins a prize.

"Bleeding Liberal" here. LOL.

Not arguing for leniency here, what effort would be acceptable to keep potential career criminals out of the justice system? I don't like paying the taxes to support it, I doubt you do, either.

I'll presume once they're adults, it's too late. Can I say some are born into environments that make it extremely likely our little newbies are destined for a life of crime?

I'll suggest that education (real education, not a paper mill) is far less expensive. And it must include sex ed classes bible thumpers hate. Education makes it easier to get job, job pays bills, reduce unemployment, crime: all those things NO taxpayer wants to fund.

It's good that Peeler got a little taste of his own medicine. Not that I like Webb either. Help solve crime solve a cold case.

Taxpayers don't have to fund it. Public schools are a dismal failure and a complete waste of money. Privatize it. And stop telling parents not to spank their kids. All of our problems have been caused by liberal ideas. Liberals are about as American as dog cr@p pie

Redneckk, you are wasting energy blaming people. Work towards fixing the problem. If you believe private schools and corporal punishment are the answer but no candidate supports it, run for office yourself.

That's what we as a society need to figure out. But being nice to people who repeatedly commit crimes is NOT the answer. From what I’ve read Peeler wasn’t just a first time offender (http://query.nytimes.com/gst/ fullpage.html?res=9C00E1D81630 F934A25752C0A96F958260&sec =&spon=&pagewanted=all ). The problem with this killer, like so many others was drugs and probably poverty. If we really want to get to the root of the problem with a good majority of the crime in this country; we, as a society, need to figure out a way to deal with the drug problem (both legal and illegal drugs) and the fact that so many people (both intercity and those out in the suburbs) are both hooked on drugs (again both legal and illegal) and or are dealing drugs to support themselves (and in some cases their families). Many robberies, both home invasions and street crime, are done by those seeking a “quick fix” for their drug habit. And we’ve had several generations now of people who have grown up thinking selling drugs or doing drugs is a positive thing.

But I am not naive. Right now there is no real viable cure for drug addiction and so there will continue to be murders, robberies and home invasions that can be traced back to the addict trying to get another fix. And there will be some people no matter what society does to help them will continue to commit crimes or kill people. Some people are just plain evil and need to be incarcerated or on death row.
