if the someone builds a racetrack for us all of this will stop guarenteed. instead of spending money on grants spend the money on a track.. the police will never stop us from racing

i agree...build a drag strip, they have them all over in places like new jersey, pay 30 bucks and race all you want under a controlled enviornment, then the cops can worry about other things instead of this.....

I wish they would open a track for the kids to race on,if I had the money I would open a track for them to race on.Because maybe then my son would be here today. The police really need to patrol more and stop the street racing before any more deaths happen.Racing is for race tracks not streets where innocent victims drive.

As a former racer. Simple Solution build a 1/4 mile track in hartford and your problem will be solved and you will save lives just listen to the kids. You will also make money.

It is amazing that people will risk their lives, their passengers lives and innocent bystandards lives for what they call "fun" I call it murder.

If they get caught racing, they should lose their cars to the city just like the drug dealers. THAT would stop them!

I wish they would just open Connecticut Dragway back up. You can guarantee that street racing would go down by at least half.

Do what California does, they get caught, their cars get crushed.

The politicians in CT have no testical fortitude, they would never crush the cars! The $4.00 a gallon for gas doesn't stop these kids from racing. What are the prizes for winning thses races! Bragging rights. Somehow it does not seem worth it. All of towns were getting tired of kids skateboarding everywhere so they built skate parks, why not build these kids a track. I'll tell you why because kids don't respect themselves do you think they honestly will respect if someone does something nice for them. I am sure in time it would be covered in graffitti. I think its a lose lose situation we got here. Good Luck-----Speed Kills---Teach Peace!

Where are these guys/gals getting the money to build an engine to race in the first place? Are the taxpayers somehow footing the bill? Where are the cameras to record the license plates so later the police can come for the car? Are the engines coming from stolen cars? So many questions and no answers

Why not organize it? If it is such a big thing to the racers, keep it safe, stop running from cops and probably make a ton of money in the process. Instead of trying to stop it, which we know is damn near impossible, turn it into something huge. Yeah, you will need a ton of insurance and make sure medical and safety officials are on site to monitor it, but if it is organized, there is less chance of a fatal injury. Crashes happen in NASCAR all the time but it isn't illegal. The problem lies in the fact that these races happen where bystanders can get hurt. If you put this into a controlled enviorment It would be safer and probably become a HUGE spectator event. It would also alleviate the police from chasing illegal races, and allow them to crack down on more serious crimes.

Convert them all to railroad foamers, and they won't have the desire to street race. But then my good buddy "New Haven Railroad" in Enfield will only have two things to complain (on Topix) about; Steve and MOW.
