Here's hoping the CT Supreme Court makes the right decision and rules that Nappe voluntarily retired to accept a higher paying job as a mercenary and has no right to get his former job back.

Here's hoping the Connecticut Supreme Court makes the right decision and brings this travesty of justice to an end. Stop the outrageous bleeding of tax payer money.
Officer Nappe is a trained and decorated officer that has been and wants nothing more than to be a dedicated public servent to the residents of East Haven.
I believe a power play has developed and the true losers are the tax paying residents.
God speed officer Nappe back to the streets of East Haven

my feelings exactly. he made his choice and he should live with it. if he is allowed to do this, there would be no stopping anyone from retiring and then coming back for their job.

you can't run a police dept., or a city, or a private company this way. the mayor has no business intervening and one begins to wonder what her motives are. hopefully the court upholds the commissioners.

my feelings reflect the first post, not the second, if that is not clear.

he does not deserve to be allowed to come back.

He is wasting the taxpers money by bringing it this far. He is at the age where many officers retire from the department anyway, so why does he not give the opportunity to a young person just starting out. One thing I'm confused about is if they have already filled his position, were he to get his job back wouldn't the town have to add a position just for him? How should that make the taxpayers feel any better?

And "travesty of justice" are some weighty words that, IMO, don't apply in this type of situation. I think they are more related to, say, a murderer who is acquitted on a technicality, when he is truly guilty, or a person is convicted of rape, only to be exonerated by DNA after serving many years in prison... And, I think you just might be insulting the abilities of the many other officers on the EHPD by your instance that they need to have this man on their force because no one else can do what he does...aren't the other officers capable and well trained?

He left to take a job that was tax free after the town asked him to wait until they had recruits graduate from the academy and fill the spots that were vacant and he did not want to wait. He always was given a second chance and was put on extra duty and was caught sleeping on the job. He needs to stop wasting taxpayers’ money and find a new job. .

i live in east haven and i think this whole circus is a waste of my tax money. The mayor should admit defeat. She over stepped her bounds by hiring the lawyer that was sueing our fair town, to defend it. That lawyer just happened to be the lawyer suing east haven to get nappe his job back.. Now this man may very well be a nice guy, but retiring because the town wouldnt give you a leave of absence to make more money over seas. Its not like we was in the ARMY. Come-on Nappe, April, end this thing. Nappe go look for another job.

Jim, A law was passed (after the fact)specifically for Nappe to insure that those who answer the call of our state department are treated the same as the reserves called to active duty. The East Haven Police commissioners are in disagreement with this law. The lower courts ordered Nappe be reinstated based on the merits of this law. The police union agreed, the commissioners have filed an injunction. This injunction has been turfed to the supreme court.

Libra girl, perhaps you're right, travesty is to strong of a word.
How about injustice, in that the police commissioners have decided that the law mentioned above does not apply in this situation, oddly, the law was written specifically for this Nappe situation to resolve this issue.
This is many more months of lawyers and thousands (S) of more tax payer dollars wasted.
I have no doubt that East Haven has many outstanding officers, Nappy woud just rejoin their ranks to the bennefit of the residents of the town.

East Haven is without an experienced mayor as well April. He wanted to play MERC over in Iraq, fine just don't waste taxpayer money so he can add more money to his pension. He quit...bottom line.

Grease ball politics ! This has nothing to do with saving taxpayers money, the police commission over there in little Italy is determined to carry out a vendetta at the taxpayers expense.
There is no good reason not to put the guy back on the job, All it comes down to is a former mayor, police chief and commissioners with an ax to grind, plain and simple. The rest is hype.
How about let this guy finish out his career and collect the pension he worked and risked his life for !
Taxpayer money ? It will cost nothing to put Nappe back on the department. A new officer? 6 months of training and the position he is being trained for usually is filled with overtime until he/ she is placed on shift...a very sizable amount of money, ask the good commissioner what that price tag will be,$75,000 -%100,000 ?

This is a political issue. Who selected Romano as commissioner. It had to be former mayor Maturo. Another supporter of Maturo's wasting the taxpayers money in East Haven. The Mayor runs the town it should be her decision.

This cop left his job in the city after they paid to train him to chase the big bucks in Iraq with a private firm. No he shouldn't get his job back.If he went there with the military then yes his job should have been on hold but he didn't so he shouldn't get his job back

Nappe RETIRED!!!! QUIT in other words. If I quit and went to work for another company on a contract, how dare I demand for my previous job back. He did NOT serve his country. He served a private for-profit business, not to mention served a foreign country. The US did not benefit from his performance in Iraq. Does anyone realize this??? He was not a patriot, stop using that as an excuse, he was an employee. BIG difference! Our soldiers who are the real patriots, don't serve for money....like Nappe did.
