Documents: Deputy touched woman at party

Documents obtained by 24 Hour News 8 reveal that a Newaygo County deputy allegedly forced himself on a woman at a party six years ago, the incident that led to his arrest July 31.

this is why you just can't ignore a woman after an encounter, you have to at least call so she doesn't feel cheap and used other wise it may take 6 years but she will attempt to get even..

Doesn't this story outrage men in here. I mean to inappropriately touch someone and be charged is one thing but 6 flippen years later? I mean come on.

Woman who are sexually harassed by cops and lawyers don't report out of the fear of retaliation.
Usually these bad seeds have buddies who are willing to go that extra mile to remind the victims to keep quiet or else.

Not only does the victim get targeted, but so do their relatives, friends and co-workers. Sometimes to the point of child protective services investigations.

These cops who will be so brazen as to force themselves on a woman at a party, have probably done it to other women as well. I'm suprised there are not more coming forward.

I can understand why you say this...however, six years is a little ridiculous. I personally think she is a "woman scorned" and upset that maybe this man doesn't want anything to do with her, so now she's going to go to authorities about it. If this guy was harassing her then why would she go to the authorities now...why not 6 years ago? Do you think she just NOW gained self assurance? I think there's a lot more to this story...but I also think there should be a statute of limitations on things such as this. Not only is this man's reputation ruined, but he could also lose his job and do prison time!

It outrages me. Lots of women lie about this stuff. Really, they were swimming in Emerald Lake. If she didn't want him to be near her it seems like she could have done something about it before hand. It isn't like they were forced to share the same bath tub. Help!!! I'm Drowning!!! but DON'T TOUCH ME!!!! Yeah, right.

Well I am assuming it was a group outing at the lake or was it just him and her? If it was a group outing why then didn't she say something/make a big deal of it right then and there? I can understand the whole fear of retaliation thing to a point but what changed after 6 years? Was he off the force? Retired? If she was that fearful of the retaliation and this is a small community wouldn't she still be just as fearful as shewas that day?

Could it be the witness was also a police officer and has now found new employment and is now willing to testify? It is amazing what people will put up with or over look in order to keep their job.

Swimming, drinking, partying, and a little grabing. What does touching inapproiatly mean. Did he brush against her chest? Give me a break. Six years later, " He touched me". She probably should have addressed that with him on the spot and let it lie, that or she wanted more and "HE" said no.

There is a Statute and it just happens to be Six Years for this charge. It's entirely possible the other theories about retaliation being the "cause" for being quiet for this long. It's entirely possible she kept mum in hopes that he would no longer be on the force when she decided to come forward. Now that she's up against the timeline, she has no choice about having to come forward at this time other than to keep quiet. All of this is speculation and it sure does "feel" like there is a heckuva lot more to it than we know
