The story above is inaccurate. The boys were walking home - north on Laverne, not south. They were not walking in the street, nor were they walking with the traffic. They were walking on the left side of the street, behind the mailboxs - in the grass. The two were talking about a band shirt, and pokemon, when all of a sudden Sascha's friend saw the car coming toward them, in an instant, the driver looked away from the road to clear the fog off his windshield, Sascha's friend heard a thud, and his friend lay motionless in the gulley. The driver continued on (south) for a bit down the road, stopped and returned to the scene. Sascha's friend is the one who called 911, not the driver. Sascha's friend was the one that took his own coat off to protect his dear friend.

The boys were not in the wrong walking home from school, they were in the grass.

Sascha's friend, and many friends have started a movement - S F S (sidewalks for Sascha). A sidewalk is deperately needed from Perry Meridian High School, across Meridian School Road, up Laverne, and around the ball fields to the Middle School, and 6th Grade Academy. They plan a petition drive to have sidewalks installed on the streets surrounding both of the schools. Look for the petition at sporting, music and academic events.

As a concerned parent for any child that has to walk along either road after school, I move that the entire southside of Indianapolis, sign the petition urging Marion County, and the State of Indiana to put sidewalks on the street adjacent to the schools. Maybe even a 4way stop sign just east of Rahke Rd, where the high school parking lot opens to Laverne, or even a crossing guard would help.

When your at the middle school ball fields, take a moment and think of Sascha, and the many kids who for some reason or another have to walk home. Don't you think you'd want the kids walking on a sidewalk?

To Sascha's family - you son has touched many lives, and our prayers are with you.

My family prays for Sascha and hopes for the best...
We are waiting for updates on his condition.

Sidewalks are needed about everywhere!
We live in Greenwood, and most of the streets don`t have them.
And our kids walk out there every day!To friend`s house, to and from school, riding bikes...
I see that new sidewalks are being built but THIS IS NOT ENOUGH!

I am saddened to report that Sascha died on Sunday. He was on the prayer list at our church, and we were updated this morning.

My heart is with his parents, his friends, and even with the driver of the car. Accidents can and do happen, and this is tragic.

I am saddened by this and people who think Sascha was walking in the street. I don't care if he was. If he was walking in the street that means he deserves to be hit??? NO it does not. My daughter text me today to let me know Sascha had passed away. I think we all need to be there for our kids in this time of sorrow. My daughter has a class with Sascha and also walks this same street and it is a dangerous one. We all need to be careful when kids are around and when they are not. Make sure if you see this petition going aournd "Sidewalks for Sascha" you sign it. You don't have to live on the Southside. But if you do you know where we are coming from. My prayers and thoughts are with Sascha's family. I am sorry!

Very, very sad. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Sidewalks are indeed a good idea and should be around all schools. Unfortunately, in this case it sounds as if that wouldn't have made a difference if the driver came off of the road so far.

My daughter is a good friend of Sascha's and the other boy who was with him. The other boy explained exactly what happened to the police and the news media in our area. Funny thing is, is that it appeared the original story published was totally inaccurate. I guess they decided to listen to an older adult than to the actual boy who was next to Sascha when he was hit.

I did know Sascha. I saw him on a daily basis. He was a quiet, nice young man. He was always courteous and had time to smile and say hello. I can see him standing in front of me right now.

This is heartbreaking for his parents and his friends. As we all know kids never think they will die or grow old.

Hug your child(ren)tonight and remind them to be vigilant. While you are at it say a prayer for Sascha and those who know him, loved him and who will miss him. Unfortunately life can be very short.

I am sorry to hear of the loss. I pray that sidewalks are available for children. However I also pray that until the sidewalks are up, that parents do not let the children walk home. Those are busy streets and children do not have any business walking down them.

My name is Uwe Fechner and I'm the big cousin of Sascha from Germany.
Sascha would be Christmas with us in Germany and we had been together with his family celebrated Christmas. His place is now empty. This will be sad Christmas.
As the father of 2 children in almost the same age as Sascha and his sister, it is for me
inconceivable that such a young person in this way lose his life.
There should be no child from his parents to go this way.
But this time there was probably no choice.
The accident driver will discuss this with his conscience and represent.
Sascha was so banal that may sound, only at the wrong time wrong place.
And even with his friend, our thoughts. Maybe he will ask: Why Sascha and not me?
There were many unfortunate circumstances, so that this tragic accident could happen.
This has nobody wanted and it is done! All wonder why?
And guilt? Who did blame or who should be the blame?
Sascha we will never again laugh with us. Even the older Lord has not wanted.
Discussions on which side the guys are gone now remain in the post without meaning. In the run-up had
people in the responsible bodies have to worry as the children without a safe
Pavement, come home. Sascha blame not to bring us back.
But now all those responsible should this tragic incident as a warning to see and do their utmost to
so that such an accident can not be repeated. And this applies to the whole world.
These are our children guilty.
And acts with S F S (Side Walks for Sascha). He would also make it so.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved and their families.
Especially with my dear cousin and your family.

There is not a school called "Perry Middle School".

Sad excuse for journalism and a very sad situation.

Those kids were so far off the street that a car should never be over there. A sidewalk wouldn't have saved them, based on his friend's statement.

This is so very sad. Sidewalks are of course a welcome thing and provide a designated place for people to walk, but a car can easily go over a curb and up onto the sidewalk, especially if the driver is not paying attention (which is the real problem here). I have heard differing reports on the age of the driver ranging all the way up to 91 years old. I don't know what is correct, but it isn't the age of the driver but rather the level of carelessness that is to blame. Maybe if all streets wordoned off by guardrails that would help. At least it would have provided an obstacle between the driver and the boy. I'm sure the driver of the car feels badly, but it cannot begin to compare with the grief caused by his looking away for that short moment. It's awful.

This was a tragic accident. Certainly it is human to want to assign blame somewhere; the boys were in the street or the driver was careless. But in honor of this boy who has lost his life in this senseless accident, I think it is very important to take action instead of assigning blame. Sidwalks for Sascha is a good beginning but it is just a beginning. Contact your Congressman, your Senator and anyone else who can carry on this fight. We need to act as a community to make sure that, after the media attention is gone, this issue will be will not be.

My sympathies go out to the family of Sascha and also to the driver and his family. I am sure that their devastation at this loss is great.
