Stupid. Then they should also ban eating while driving, putting on make-up while driving, yelling at your children while driving, playing with the radio while driving, touching your GPS while driving, fighting with your significant other while driving, etc. It is really an individual-specific capability....or not. And people shouldn't be doing anything that takes away from their ability to safely control their vehicle. This law, among others, stems from our recent inability to take responsibility for our actions or, simply, to do things responsibly. Driving is a privilege, as stated by law (I believe), and should be taken away from people who can't handle it. Am I rambling.....?

This is bull.... They have the Click It or Ticket program which I don't believe in. Yes don't get me wrong wearing your seat belt is excellent, but there are pros and cons about that especially if your involved in an auto accident.
I don't believe in the Click It or Ticket program, because why can the Police pull over the motorists and give them a ticket when the Police themselves don't wear them? What makes the police different than anybody else? There only Civilians wearing a uniform? If us motorists should have to wear them then the police driving the cruisers should have to wear them as well.
The New Law banning the use of hand-held cell phones I don't agree with and is silly. Today's Blue Tooth's are expensive and people don't have the money to but them. Why can police officers talk on there radios while driving? They still have to have one hand on the wheel and the other on the mic in order to talk or if a motorist has one hand on the wheel and talking on the cell phone?
This goes both ways. I completely disagree on this banning the use of hand-held cell phones by motorists. There saying us motorists can't do this, but Police can? doesn't make sense. If us motorists have to follow the rules Police should too. Why don't they make something for the police's radios where they don't have to remove there hands of there steering wheels. Enough is Enough I am soooooo disgusted about this it's pathetic. It makes me sick!!!!

Oh and also why don't they ban people from taking there dogs in the vehicles? if a dog jumps back and forth or moves around and the driver can't see in his/her review mirror that can cause an accident, but there so worried about cell phone us while driving? What are they going to ban next not being able to listen to the radio because it distracts the driver? What are we motorists going to get a fine if a Police Officer sees or hears us playing the radio in our own personal vehicles? Why don't they ban people having Pitt Bulls? Why don't they ban those sport cars and low riders and ban them for having extremely loud mufflers, etc? Why don't ey worry about haing Police sit on the streets to watch for speeding motorists, etc? City Council sit back and think of ways to do more about the DUI'S, HIT & Runs, RETAIL THEFT, THEFT'S, ROBBERIES and HOME INVASIIONS, Drugs, Shootings, Stabbings, Prostitutions, and Gangs, Loud Mufflers! instead of something real stupid.

If you can afford to pay your bill each month, that is ussually way more expensive than buying a bluetoothe. Not only that, you pay for your bluetoothe once, you pay your bill every month and few are complaining about that. On the other hand thou, the quality of the sound when using bluetoothe often is poor, so there are plusses and minuses.

Oooo...Fire Police...probably when you see them it's because they are pulling up on a scene you are on...do you realize that mostly all cops, at least those who are tactically sound, will un-buckle when arriving on a scene so that they can get out in a hurry. Unless you do the job, please refrain from making assumptions.

I'm fed up with King Ed's rules and reg's..He is so full of doo doo.I agree with everything Dave said and I will personally be watching out for official's and Law enforcement reporting any of them that are using a cell phone. See you and your official buddies at Top diner. What a waste of tax payer monies.Getting paid to sit around eating breakfast bs ing .

I agree with you regarding offers need to unbuckle in a hurry,That is understood. But what about when thier driving and looking down at the computer screen or on thier cell phone while driving. Do you not agree that too is a distraction. I see city and county officials on cell phones will they too be fined if convicted. If they are convicted is the key word there.

The judge said state motor vehicle law superseded the local ban. That is the way to defend against that violation .Don't city counsil look and investigate first instead of passing stupid rule's and reg's in King Edtown.

APD must be bored in special ed's eyes. They need more work to do, looking out for errant cell phone users.
They best start by looking in police cars, cops are the number one users of cell phones while driving, and this includes the PSP.

First off yes it is a good Idea to ban cell use while driving. If you need to talk pull over and do it in a safe manner. I recently bought a vehical that was crashed due to a driver on a cell phone and yeah it was bad if there was a passenger they would have died or been hurt bad. As for Dave you got a few points right the seat belt thing is crap if I can ride my motorcycle without a helmet then why should I have to wear a seatbelt if you want to gamble and not be safe well it should be your own decision. The loud muffler thing well I know if it wasn't for my loud pipes on my bike a few unknowing drivers in other vehicals would have pulled out infront of me plenty of times if you hear me coming you won't or shouldn't pull out well enough rambling good day all

This is pathetic! The way the city lines run here in this area, you’re going to have to think, am I in Allentown city limits or not. Allentown City Council be proactive on something more important!

Why did they even waste time on this? It will be overturned, and the city has opened itself up to a lawsuit, or many lawsuits. As if Allentown doesn't have enough problems already -- they felt they needed to create one more? Stupid!

I can appreciate the need for the ban, but 10 days is not practical. Typical government mandate without forethought as to how it will be enacted. There are hundreds of shuttle drivers for car dealerships, couriers for all types of businesses that use their cell phones to interact and save time and money. Another thing for the police to do, as if they don't have enough to do already because people call them for things not listed in their job descriptions. If people would have used their good judgement and not talked on phones or text while driving, we wouldn't need these laws. Common sense is not as common as you think!

If you don't wear your seatbelt, you are not very bright. Weating seatbelts save money for your municipalitites because that's less money to pay for healthcare for fixing your stupid face after it hits the windshield.

I think if they are going to ban cell phone usage then they should do it state wide not just a city here or there - How do you know if you don't live in that city. I used to feel it was stupid to ban people on cell phones because it is easy for me to be on the phone and drive and sometimes I relied on talking to someone to keep me awake while on a long drive. However just because I can do something well does not mean everyone can. There are people out there who drive like idiots and they aren't even on the phone so I can imagine if they were. I don't think cell phones are the problem though - I see people doing way too much while driving like texting, eating, putting on makeup, and the worse I have seen yet was getting DRESSED while driving - (yes I seen someone changing their shirt while driving on 22) which is way more distracting then just talking on a phone. I seen a bus driver pulling away from the stop while looking down at his phone and texting which is really wreck less. It is a shame people do these things but if the state wants to take a stand they should do it as a whole - I do not think this is an act that shows the government officials Care.. I think it is a way for them to ticket people and make money. I believe money is their motivation for most things and this is one of them but I can't say I disagree with it because not everyone can drive and talk but I do think it is a shame they have to tell people that and I do think their motivation is financial.
