I moved away long ago. My landlord was based in New Jersey and my apartment building was not kept up in the least. It was so bad we tenants actually made repairs ourselves. Part of the problem was Code Enforcement. If they're not on the take in Allentown, then the mob is full of nice guys who never committed a crime in their lives. When I called Code Enforcement out once, the inspector should've let my landlord have it, instead he yelled at me for sitting on City Hall to finally send someone out to review my complaint (even after the local Fire Dept. said they too had concerns with the building). The guy was enormous and looked like he didn't move his lazy butt from his desk in the last twenty years. He tried to intimidate me until I reminded him that my tax dollars paid his salary. They need to clean house starting there.

It was once a really nice, family-oriented city. It never will be again. The highway to NYC brought so much crime in. Unless you're raised on the West End, you have no prayer of real success or a safe residence in this town - just low paying jobs and lots of crime to contend with. It was an All-America City twice. The last time was nearly 40 years ago. Now it's a cesspool. Adding a restaurant or two just adds low paying jobs. Gone are the good paying manufacturing jobs and they're not coming back to Allentown. Service jobs don't pay anything, which is why the top 1% has been pushing for our nation to be service-based the last 2.5 decades.

Billy Joel's song turned out to be more accurate in hindsight than I think even he realized it would be. "And it's getting very hard to stay..."

You can't build a city on low paying service jobs catering to sales, gambling and entertainment.

We should begin at the top with Palumpashitsky and than remove all the fatfromabove begining in the building standards department that is deffinitly on the take.
Just look at Palumpashitskies latest political move by hireing that lady that is incompatant to the oppointment in the allentown school district.

Most of the people running Allentown haven't got a clue, except for filling there own bank account woth the pay to play bull **** that has been inbreed into Allentown.

I find most of these lists to be silly.

Trying to figure out where that picture they use for Allentown is from? Allentown may look pretty sad, but its not like a Camden which I think would be higher on the list.

The city has been in decline since the late 80's. Give me a break, this city is a worn down tired area. New stores and malls can't change the feeling of ugh you get driving through this dead city.

Allentown needs a downtown discount no-background-check gun shop, a generic discount ammo store, Corona/Presidente cerveza factory outlet store, Chinese bling car parts outlet, walk-up no-waiting welfare clinic, abortion clinic (wait, the Allentownians don't have abortions, taxpayers are paying for their incessant breeding), open house of prostitution, or a slew of pickup bars for the ghetto gangsters looking to bullschlitz dumbed down white women.

These are more like what suits the current clientelle of Allentown.

I suspect that if the PP&L didn't have paid off infrastructure in the city they'd leave so fast the city would implode from the vacuum.

Some will invariably cry "racist rant" but naysayers, refute any of what I said as untrue.

What a sad demise for a once glorious city. Anybody remember it before it became a ghetto slum?

You're not racist, you're a realist. Period.I'm in Allentown everyday for work. I've been told by many hispanics that I "better learn spanish". I see beautiful homes in utter disrepair. I hear the thump of stupid rap. I see and hear people loudly and rudely talking on cell phone not paying attention to a changing traffic light and almost get hit, and give the finger to the driver. I didn't see Allentown when it was nice, but I see what it is today. If I didn't have to drive there everyday for work, I'd never go there. I know Camden well, I know North Philedlphia well, I know Northeast Philadelphia well. I know none of these punks from Allentown couldn't survive one night at any of those locations. Can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear.
