Quakertown is not the only school district with issues....

"school revenue has plunged, mostly due to cutbacks in state funding. Squeezed by lower tax revenue and higher expenses for programs such as Medicaid, states have cut education funding by a collective $17 billion in the past two fiscal years"

30 years ago we got about 40% of our budget from the state. Now, it's lower than 20%, and continuing to drop.

Wow times have changed , back when I graduated in 84 all we had to do was go into the HS office with our vehicle info and get a parking permit . They were actually pretty good times . Of course we had Qtown PD sitting across Park Ave next to the lot keeping an eye on us . Good old Officer Johnson .. He was ok though .. Wow the memories. Sorry about the rambling on . Just got me thinking about it ..

QCSD elected officials chose to pay professional personnel at rates that exceed the PA State Basic Education Formula. This has resulted in a decrease in the % of the local budget reimbursed by the state.

The state funding formula stands.

Our elected QCSD Board members make choices and they should be aware of the additional costs to local taxpayers of those choices. They should be aware of the results of their spending.

PA State funding, including basic education, Accountability Block Grants, transportation, and school employee Social Security and retirement appropriations for the QCSD for 2012-13 are $14,928,895. This number reflects an increase of $1,231,533.

I don't care what our district does...they all do it! My issue is with how much comes from the state, and with the huge teacher salaries in all the surrounding districts, we are all in the same boat; more $$ has to come from our pockets locally.

I hope this new board keeps its promises and holds back on freebies to the teachers this time around. If they don't produce, there's always the next election to oust them.
