Officers did what they had to do even though it might have been the wrong vehicle he could of just pulled over and not threaten to run over officers to avoid this siutation.

Lary has been a penpal of mine for almost 4 years and it hurts me to see this happen to him..can his mother, Judy< who i have talked to on the phone for hours before please contact me so i can say my good byes to a wonderful spirit i will miss greatly..My name is Amy michelle Anderson and judy or any other family or friend contact me .please my address is 6411 springboro pk. apt. 8..what happened to Lary wasnt fair at all and if the cop who killed my friend is with swat..dont u think he could have done a better job on aiming for a part of the body that wouldnt have been fatal..the cop seems to me to be getting off on killing people who dont deserve it..maybe u should look into another profession u would be good at, such as a hit man, cause u damn sure shouldnt be a swat member if thats the best aim u could come up with. when will enough be enough for the police dept. to get rid of this cop who seems to me be killing alot of people who dont deserve to die..Lary, I will never forget you or ur caring, compassionate spirit..Judy, I know that your son loved you and I also know he had a personal relationship with jesus so he will be waiting in heaven for his family to rejoin with him when it is time..I have faith that jesus loved him as his son and would never turn his back on Lary..Lary loved jesus and his mother unconditionally..we used to talk for hours every day and i will never stop thinking about how wonderful your heart was and always will be..please contact me with information on his viewing anyone..my email address is nbng28@yahoo.com

You say the police officer who did this is a member of swat?...WOW...dont u think he could of taken a shot to stop Labensky rather than kill him..I mean really, whats wrong with cops now and days? so if i run from a cop in a car, I should consider myself dead?..no weapon, wrong suspect...sounds discombobulated to me..this police officer shouldnt have a license to carry a loaded gun, if he doesnt even know how to shoot out tires of a car, or take a shot to stop a man who didnt deserve to die at all...are we sure the cop doesnt have a side job as ahit man?..and he got his days and shifts confused???

The people that don't understand a rapidly evolving, violent, situation where lives are at stake can't understand that you fire a weapon until the threat stops their life threatening actions. Good job, again Officer Cornwell. You are a great cop. Most of the ignorant comments are from prior or current dopers.

After reading these posts, I am amazed at how out of touch people are with reality. Remember, this isn’t Hollywood, it is real life. Everyone is placing the responsibility of larry’s death on the police for ‘not shooting out his tires’ or shooting him in and arm/leg that wouldn’t have been fatal. Come on people.
His death is tragic regardless of how you look at it, but remember that it is larry’s decisions that led to his death. People say that he was unarmed. I say that he was armed with a 4,000lbs weapon that kills more people each year than handguns. He had numerous opportunities to stop the events of that night:
1. He could have pulled over right away and allowed the police to sort things out and find out that he wasn’t the robber. He didn’t. He sped away to elude police.
2. Even after the ‘chase’, he could have surrendered. He didn’t.
3. After ramming a house, fence, etc he again could have placed the vehicle in park exit the car and surrendered. He didn’t. Instead he chose to ignore the instructions of a police office who had his gun drawn and apparently try to use the car as a weapon, which ultimately led to his death.
How many of you making comments have ever actually shot a handgun? How many have shot a handgun under great stress?(i.e. someone else shooting at you or attempting to run you over?) When faced with a threat and under stress, you can’t be expected to aim for someone’s arm or leg so that the shot isn’t fatal, this isn’t Hollywood where you can shoot a gun out of someone’s hand from 40 ft. The first priority is to stop the threat, center mass, generally at least 2 shots. Even after being shot twice at center mass, it is still possible for the person to still be able to continue the attack for 30 seconds or more (or in this case driving the car) at which point you continue to shoot until the threat has ceased. To blame the cops for not shooting him in the arm or leg instead is just ludicrous.
If I am ever face to face with a cop with his weapon drawn, I am sure going to listen to what he tells me to do. Being able to sort things out in a court of law is sure better than pushing daisies!

It is sad that he chose to have a rough life. Drugs do not permit rational, good decisions. I am sad that his family and friends have to go through burying someone they loved or cared about. Maybe some will learn not to follow his path. I am sure he was at times a good person and had good qualities and gifts. Please learn from his mistakes and remember the good, nice, fun times.

I have know the Labensky family most of my life. I also grew up in a family of police and fire fighters- Kettering officers. First, I am so sorry for your loss. Lary was a nice person. I know he had A LOT of problems, but violence- not one of them. I am so sad this is the way it all ended. I had to stand with the police as I sent all my love to this GOOD family. My friends. Then the dashboard cam came out. WOW! It should have NEVER happened. I love all of you, Labensky family. Know I am there in spirit.

"word on the street" What street are you refering to? How about some facts instead of your homeless friends on the street!
