I just wanted to thank you for reporting the facts, not just biased opinions. No other news outlet is reporting the Chief Biehl is investigating the recommendation, or that he doubts the recommendation. Thank you for being a fair and ethical news station, when all the other ones in the area are not. I will definitely be tuning into your station over the others.

If there were such serious infractions as the ones we've all read and heard on the news this week, Officer Brooks should not have been working his beat by himself the night of the shooting.
I feel that the p.d. should be held at least partially if not entirely responsible for what happened that night.
The young officer has been drug through the mud enough. Been put in his position on sat., I believe we all would have reacted in the same fashion.
There is enough blame to go all around - including the victim!!
P.S. stop the racial comments - we're all about sick to death of them.

Its a mess all around. Still...you can't attack a police officer and not expect something bad to happen to you. Maybe the guy who got shot didn't have a weapon...but that's not a risk the officer could take. If the officer has a family to go home to, and he wants to ever see them again, he had to act quick.

Shame on the Dayton Police. They put an officer on the street alone ,where there had been three previous shootings. They didn't protect Officer Brooks and now they are throwing him to the wolves.I hope that the officer gets a good lawyer and sues the City Of Dayton and the Dayton Police Dept.If the officer was not trained as he should have been.Maybe we should find out what is wrong with their TRAINING program. And where is the Police Union.Remember it could happen to one of your sons.No where has it been mentioned, the officer was injured that night. He was taken to hospital with injuries to his chest, back and head.I just hope he doesn't have permanent injuries. If he does I hope he makes the City of Dayton Responsible.Nowhere has it been mentioned that Officer Brooks received a commendation for saving a citizens life, just a few weeks before this happened.Signed by the same people that now because of POLITICS are ruining a young mans life.I defy anyone to look at this young mans past and find anyone who does not say he is and has always been a intelligent ,TRUTHFUL young man.I hope the citizens of Dayton cry fowl in huge numbers. We now have to protect a young man who was protecting us.

Official story from WDTN above, when I clicked the post comments, it formed the new thread here. See above.

(I don't get why they can't merge topics here, anyhow. It's a new site, hopefully they don't have 20000 topics on the same thing here.)

I hope Officer Brooks has a good lawyer, too.

It's a shame. Dayton will continue to be one of America's most dangerous cities because of junk like this. I would be scared to serve this community, if I was a police officer. I guess that Dayton Police Department's motto is "Do your job; lose your job."

With all due respect, Ma'am, I believe Officer Brooks' actions and track record speaks for itself. By and large, DPD has a fine department. Its a shame that Brooks' shooting (which appears to be justified) is going to be judged based on his other actions, but that is his own fault.

He is a liar, and never really took his job seriously. He never grasped the reality of things, and when officers tried to help him, he blew them off.

I hope he does too. If I was one of the new rookies I would be afraid to work for this department. They should be afraid to do their job because if they do- they will be fed to the lions.

It's not a fact unless you can prove it, but it's a possibility.

There are people in the force who support Brooks and those who don't. We may never know if he was just "blackballed" by those who didn't like him or hung to dry in a political move by the DPD. There are unanswered questions with the case and something just does not seem right. Regardless, I pray the best for his future and family.

"Biehl said he plans to review the recommendation, conduct interviews and seek additional documentation."

I guess we can now label the Chief as a liar.

One partial truth is the begining of your remark
" with all due respect" The way you call Officer Brooks a liar with such disrespect.I would say you don't respect much.If you are a member of DPD,we now know the kind of people this young man was forced to work with. Shame on you and the entire DPD.Lets open up all your private files for the world to see.I'm sure there is some you would not want to make public.I hope you will apologize to this young, who did nothing but try to serve the public and provide for his family.
I'm sure the young man was terrified when all this happened. If you were his back-up with the things you have slandered him with,he didn't have a chance. This sure isn't the "brotherhood"I thought existed in the police departments .Or is it just DPD? Don't you think we need to find out?

By brotherhood, do you mean that you expect police officers to cover up the actions of bad cops? DPD has a history of fighting the city HARD when one of their members is disciplined. The FOP hasn't said a peep in this case. Did you stop and wonder why?

I'm not talking about what happened the night of the shooting, although if Brooks had followed policy and turned his in-car camera on, it would be easier to figure out what happened.

I refer to Brooks as a liar, because he lies. How can you say he was trying to serve and protect anyone when the laundry list of offenses he has committed has been made public? When another officer was physically fighting a suspect, he stood back and watched, and had to be told to get into the fight. In the academy, he stated he didn't want to work on the west side because he had a family. He didn't show up to court twice, allegedly because he feared retribution. He lost issued equipment and lied about it. He showed up off duty to a pizza joint wearing his uniform shirt unbuttoned and untucked, and not wearing a vest or gun-belt. When someone called the police wanting to make a report, he told them to call back the next day, so some other cop would get stuck doing the paperwork.

I'll let you have the last word, I guess. I simply can't understand why on earth you want to defend a person who had no business being a cop. Brooks is still a young man, and I pray that he matures, and comes to understand that he was not a victim, but that actions have consequences.

I hope Officer Brooks gets a very -good lawyer!!
Bad cop ??? he lies? I don't know where you are getting all of this INSIDE information ,but I guess we now know.If you go out on the street and treat the citizens like this.I guess to you, they're all guilty. It sounds to me like you have a personal vendetta against this youg man.
As to the last word,I guess you have run out of slanderous things to say about this young, who apparently loves his family. Why would you say all these things "publicly'in such a
manner.Insinuating that you have "inside"information. I feel so deeply for this officer and his family. If there are more people like you that make statements that they don't KNOW to be true.God bless this young man and his family.
