Rub n Rosario: Hands off my rebate, you sharks

Enough, already. Back away. Slowly. And please, don't make a sudden move. I am agitated and poetically armed and dangerous.

Let's all just pretend that the next 27.5 billion gallons of gas we burn only cost $2/gallon?

Consumer confidence will soar, the media, always happy to jump on a band wagon regardless of where it's heading, will be full of "Happy Days are Here Again" stories, and all out incumbent politicians will be re-elected.

That is the idea after all, isn't it?

Using mine to take a much needed vacation. Guess that puts it back into the economy.

I have no debt, so, I think I need a new couch. Or a Vegas weekend. But that could bring debt, which to pay back I would need another stimulus check ....

The writer doesn't quite grasp the concept: when one pays off one's debt to a credit card company, for example, the money doesn't leave the economy, never to stimulate again. If the credit card company intends to stay in business, it had better lend that money again, to some consumer or to a business for capital equipment. It's called circulation of money in a capitalist system. Same story for one who saves their stimulus dough. With rare exception, the bank won't just sit on that money; they'll put it to work, by buying government securities, or high-risk collateralized mortgage obligations, for example. Can't you see? Your money isn't there! It's over there!

I'm sure that once the MN legislature realizes it's citizens are getting rebate checks, they will immediatley hold a special session to institute a "Rebate Check Fee."

It may sound foolish, but so does my "wheelage tax" that I pay in Washington Cty. Still waiting for someone to invent a "wheel-less" car for me to purchase...

This time around though, our state gov't promises to use the money wisely so we'll get good value for this tax...
