A way for Brett Favre to truly become "one of us?" Sit out the first play Sunday By Michael Rand,$article.credit September 17, 2009 Brett Favre has been a Viking for about a month now. He won over a fair number of fans immediately because, when healthy, he offers a Super Bowl caliber team the best chance to win. He won over another segment slowly, by looking fairly sharp in his final preseason tuneup and playing a very efficient first game in a victory over Cleveland. But there is still a segment of Vikings fans that neither likes nor trusts No. 4 in purple. They think his ego outweighs his value, or they think his Packers past outweighs any dedication he might have to the present and his new team. Favre, however, has a chance to win over a good number of those folks with one sweeping gesture Sunday. Favre, who is tied with legendary Viking Jim Marshall for most consecutive NFL starts at 270, has a chance to break the record against the Lions. Or, he could let another QB -- probably Tarvaris Jackson -- take the first snap and hand the ball to Adrian Peterson, thus remaining hand-in-hand with Marshall and keeping both in the record book. It would put the Vikings at a slight competitive disadvantage on that first play, since the free world would know a run play is almost assuredly coming. But to see Favre jog out for 2nd-and-7, having performed a selfless act to preserve a piece of Vikings history? It seems like one play of predictability would be a small price to pay. Favre laid down in 2001 to gift Michael Strahan the sack that broke the single-season NFL record. Let's see him sit out a play Sunday with his record on the line.

I see your point but wouldn't that be discredit for what he has done during his career? For what? He will break the record as a member of the Vikings. I don't like what he did for Strahan and I wouldn't like this either.

He had long term side affects for many years making him crooked, jealous and flighty. Favre's record speaks for itself and Fran couldn't wash his jock. Nick, hate to break it to you, but your name is Mick.

i sure as hell hope he doesnt play like fran - that guy only knows how to choke big in big games - please dont compare those 2 guys at least until we see if brett will choke or not. we will get wins as long as brett doesnt force the ball down field and throw picks like jay cutler did last week. hit the receivers when they get open otherwise drop it to AD, CT, or PH and let them do their thang. happy purple friday

Sorry folks, but ol Brett is over the hill and come 10/5 the Packers will take his sorry butt apart just like they did Mr. Cutler. AP or AD or whatever, he be in trouble also. Wasn't Forte supposed to be an "elite" back? What did he have in the game last week, 25 carries for 55 yards. Dom will drum up a nice recipe for Mr. P. The only hope the Vikings have is GB still having issues with their O-line. They fix that and ya'll can forget about it. Thought I'd send a message from cheesehead land since so many of you Viking fans like posting on our websites. Pack taking control of the division baby!!!

Those 226 yards of total offense against a bad Bear defense was awe-inspiring.

I didn't bother reading the first 72 posts... but the only reason i can see for why this article was written was to seriously **** off Fran Tarkenton. I have noticed that some stupid packerbackers are still spouting off on here... Just wait till week 4 when we beat your asses into the turf, then come on here and talk.

Pack taking control of the division baby!!! it was 2 sh*tty teams going at it and the less sh*tty team got the win. i predicted green bay to be better then the bears this year but no better than the lions. cant wait til the lions beat the packers. its inevitable so dont get your panties in a bunch when the packers wear down again and start losing because they cant finish.
