Since the change in ownership, the Pioneer Press has turned to sensational headlines and tabloid style reporting. Just because you can report something, doesn't mean you should. I've cancelled my subscription.

Good if the huge disparities between workers, suprvisors, executives, CEOs, boards of directors, trustees, and all private compensations/perks/options are also listed. An accurate accounting of what compensations/resources exist define our various classes, and should inform public policy. Why only 'public' empoyees?

Because you can does not mean you should. The employee names offer no value to the information. You have not included all State employees. Where are the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota state Colleges and Universities employees? Oh, I know, you either did not do a complete job, or they told you to stick it and you decided to go with incomplete information.

Commies in the State
|
The difference between the top and the lowest line workers at the state is about 4 (~$120,000) to 1 (~$30,000) The state aparatchiks are obviously commies that are all paid near the same, thanks to the states red unions. Contrast that to United Health and the $1.2 billion that the CEO ripped off, I mean deserves, and the ~$30,000 a low level billing clerk gets or about a 40,000 to 1 difference. I am sure United Health management is worth 10 thousand and more times than a billing clerk, that is why health insurance is affordable and covers all the people. HMO's work so well.

Please take time to look at the Police salaries and then ask yourself, do we really need to add to their budget? Many of these people (except top management tier--Chief and his immediate commanders) also work "off duty" jobs using police equipment, squads, etc. Do you wonder why St Paul taxes are so high?

What are public employees complaining about? They get the best of two worlds. They get guarenteed pay raises and they get guarenteed retirement. Here is a classic example. The Ramsey County Manager is leaving Ramsey County to move to California and manage Contra Costa County and his salary will be $250,000. What does Chairwoman of the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners say, " we need to increase the compensation for the next manager." Why? "If we don't we can't attract anyone to take the job." Government employees are WELL compensated. The don't need anymore pay raises. If they can't live on their current salary, then they should consider taking a part time job at McDonald's or Subway. If nothing else, they'll learn some manners.

I'm not a cop, but if you worked a second job (maybe you do?? I definitely do) should that have any thing to do with your primary occupations salary? I don't think it should. I think we should also be able to see the names and dollar figures put out for those on public assistance that is inclusive of all subsidies recieved?? Maybe it is available? I have never...

1. I dont "get" guaranteed retirement- They TAKE 5% of my $ and put it into investments before i even see it. 2. We do not get guaranteed pay raises- looking at next year we *may* get 1-2% 3. Do you keep your same salary for life- NO you dont...we deserve raises like anyone else. 4. Like stated above- just because you can, does not mean you should. By your adverising this on the front page, anyone who knows me can/will look up what I make. Dont suppose you go around blathering about what you make to everyone. 5. Should this be "public" in the first place? I undersatand checks and balances, but c'mon.

PS- for all those that whine that .gov workers get super health care- nope. I pay more here than my last private job. And the "covered" expenses are dropping like flies. When is the Pioneer Press Staff Wage List going to be published on the front page??????????

That would be an invasion of their privacy - and we guard that very carefully. What you get in return is mostly a lack of gratitude and the famous entitlement mentality. And now all the public employees that interact with shady characters can rest in the assurance that these people have their full names, job titles and salary information. Great...

Wife of a state employee

This is nothing more than a stupid stunt, and I expect more from the Pioneer Press. I completely understand that it is public information, but if people really need the information, they can do the work to find it. The point of the article is supposed to be how underpaid many state workers are compared to the private sector, and that is a great point to make. However, it could have been made just as effectively by posting job titles and salaries without names. The only reason to post it in such a way that people can look it up by name is to allow everyone to go in and find out how much money their friends, relatives, and neighbors are earning. Do you honestly think all the people who are doing that will even read the article? The editor's excuse for publishing it is laughable, and the Pioneer Press should be embarrassed for publishing this in such a sensational manner.

I may be employed by the State but I happen to work for an Agency whose payroll is NOT covered by appropriated $'s; my wages are NOT paid by taxes so one could argue that my wages are not public information . . .
