Sure would be nice to know why this happen & what were the AUTHORITIES (SHERIFFS, POLICEMEN ) doing at the time of all of these ARSONS.
Very, Very disappointed in the report of police & sheriff lack of responsibilities!!!
If MY cabin is burn to the ground ...the AUTHORITIES WILL BE SOUGHT IN COURT FOR LACK OF THEIR JOBS!!!!!!!! I wonder why I pay my taxes if the AUTHORITIES CAN'T BE RESPONSIBLE by doing the fricken JOB!!

Do you really expect the Sheriff to station a deputy at you cabin 24/360? Right! To Quote the Bard: A tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing.(Macbeth)

Why don't you stay of there and protect your cabin. Seems like you are not maintaining proper supervision of your property.

Pine county has a burglary problem. This problem has been exacerbated by a sheriff who only seems to care about DUI arrests. While his deputies are parked outside of the bars, parked on the overpasses or somewhere else trolling for a DUI, houses and vehicles are routinely broken into. At one point they stopped sending a deputy to investigate, the office girls would simple send you a "loss letter" for you to itemize what was stolen.
I would bet arson to cover up burglary. |

You must be part of the I want it now generation! It only happened 6 hours ago and you are threatening peoples jobs because your little cabin might have been one of the 10? Thats funny!!!! |

"The first fire was reported about 4:30 a.m. After that, sheriff's officials say another fire was reported every 15 minutes or so. The fires are all within about five miles of each other, near Pine Lake.
The sheriff's office believes the fires may have been intentionally set. A set of footprints has been found in the snow around some of the structures. " Gee, ya think? A sheriff's office full of rocket scientists. I suppose that if they found a guy dead with a knife in his heart, they'd say that he MAY have been stabbed to death... |

They were probably working on really dangerous and important stuff, like busting pot growing operations. |

I'll bet there are some cabins that should be burnt based on the owners reputaton. Or is it re-puke-tation.
To bad the fires weren't east of Bruno. |

most likely meth crimes. I know someone who's in a mess with a mortgage and her husband is out there stealing copper to pay the bills. I hope he gets caught. He is dumb and will probably blow himself up in the midst of one of these crimes as karma comes back at him. As time goes on this will be such a regular problem it won't be news. The cops are scared and stay away.

I fish and hunt out of my friend's cabin in the Big Pine Lake area. Once we got there late at night and found the garage had been broken into and several items stolen. The deputy that came out said that things were being stolen and sold to purchase drugs.
Parents, do you know where your kids were last night? |

These areas are 30 miles from the county seat. Cops are going to hang around the back woods wait for stuff to happen, it would be a waste of time. The county normally does't have a deputy on duty in this area at this time of morning anyway. And Pine County Taxpayer, do you blame the MPLS Police Dept when someone gets shot in MPLS? They can't watch everyone!!!

It's pretty lame that you know that there are people commiting these crimes, yet you have not reported them (so it seems). How would you like your house tore to pieces by some meth head? |

This has all the Signs of the Sierra Club! KARE 11s Rick Kupchella and Congressman Jim Oberstar, will have a Story on How Cabin owners are Destroying the shore lines in Minnesota soon. To Bad Pine County did not elect that Sheriff that did fight Crime in that area, but the Voters of pine county went with the Liberal Media Reports that He did his Job Too well!Pine County now has a Liberal Sheriff that turns a blind eye on Crime and Hand Cuffs the Great Cops of Pine County! Sad Day in Minnesota!

I wondered how long it would take before someone turned this into a political issue and blamed it on 'libruls.' I guess now I know. I'm with the earlier poster who said that it was probably bored teenagers. My dad's cabin was broken into about 5 years ago, by a couple of teenagers who made their way around the lake breaking into every place where someone wasn't home and taking whatever they could find. They stole his hunting rifle and a bunch of other stuff. Pretty sad - luckily, though, they caught them. |

I wish I could get my hands on these little pukes that do this kind of stuff. Most of us work really hard for what we have, it's such a slap in the face that these little maggots can do these things and 99% of the time get away with it.

Gangsta rap made them do it.

Pine County is a large area. There are simply not enough officers to cover the area let alone YOUR property. Most counties/jurisdictions drop down to 1 or 2 officers/deputies in areas that are less populated/busy. Even in the suburbs where there are 30,000 people, you may only have 2-3 officers covering the entire area. In the case of Pine County arsons, the one or two deputies that may have been working were STUCK at the initial fire and the second one since a crime had occurred. There is only so much one or two people can handle, and that is even if they called for help (which I am guessing they did). Maybe you should try investigating that many fires at one shot- bet you couldn't; especially seeing that arson is one of the most difficult crimes to prove TRUST ME! And by the way, the press doesn't always get the facts. They seem to botch things up quite a bit. |

I hope they catch the person or persons responsible. This is way beyond theft to destroy homes. Throw the book at those responsible.

America, the land of the litigious. Ain't it beautiful? |

Most people owning cabins in Pine or any other out-state county understand your cabin WILL be broken into on average each 5 years. Most of the time they don't get burned.
The best way of protecting a cabin is to leave the door unlocked and don't leave anything in it. As others have said the Sheriff will be there to write a report within a weeks time if they arn't too busy. Also historically people around Big Pine Lake have been know to burn out people they don't like! Remember he fire that consumed the sick S--O--A--Bs trailer that killed Katie Porrier, RIP. The deputy could have written that one up when he/she torched it, just kidding! |
