The Commish seems to be omnipotent
What he says goes, period. Until the union steps in.
I see Upshaw is biting his tongue

Goodell will get brett back into someone's uniform, I would bank on it.

Brett does not know what he wants, and is greatly influenced by others such as Bus Cook, his wife, daughter, and Darrell Bevel. He probably wishes he didn't get himself in this situation.

Keep in mind that Goodell is employed by the owners, and he is not going to get involved or put pressure on the Pack to do anything. The only thing he can do is approve Favre's request to be reinstated, which I'm sure everyone knows.

Ted will not release Favre. A trade maybe, but I doubt it. A trade would have to be to a team that is not on the Packers schedule in 2008. I personally believe Brett will remain retired.

IM sure teams are waiting for Favre to file his papers before making a trade for him, realistically, would you trade for a retired qb? Also many teams wont trade for a player who may retire after next year as well.

So Favre wants out, but,he hasnt filed his paper to comeback and teams wont pick him up untilhe does,so FAVRE can screw the Packers by not signing, and seeing where he is traded to if infact he is traded, and the Packers can just say Favre never signed in so we will keep his rights and make him sit it out and if Favre makes noice and is a distraction during trainning camp, the Packers can release him, fine him and suspened him or whatever and force him to retire.

I know the later sounds stupid or extreme, but, if he doesnt sign rein. p[apers and the packers cant trade him until he does, then what do you expect the Packers to do with him, esp. if hes making noice, distracting the team ect.

as a 44 year owner of viking season tickets, and one who actually watches the line play offered by our right guard and tackle, i can assure you that Tarvaras Jackson is the player we need to keep. T.Jack has come to the realization that his right size can only give him 1.5-2 seconds of blocking, so hopefully the u-geniouses at winter park will roll him left. bringing in favre at this juncture would be a waste of our good young talent as well as favres body. if you want favre here, bring Randle, HE IS IN GAME SHAPE.

All that is fine and dandy, but the reality is that Goodell has gotten involved, and apparently spurred a flurry of activity from the GB front office trying to find a trade partner.
Rodger has already stated that he will reinstate Brett when he applies, so his involvement is more than that.
If Brett wants to play, I believe Goodell will do everything in his power to make sure it comes to pass. I don't think Rodger is all that impressed with TT right now, but you might be right, Brett might not be taking this hit real well and might opt to stay retired.

I agree, the Vikes are not going to dump Jackson for Favre. Working out with a local high school team does not put the guy in NFL playing shape. Learning another team's playbook is not something Favre would look forward to. He is going to stay retired.

im not sure Favre ego would let him retire with the battle of ego/s with Ted.Favre would love nothing more then to go somewhere else and be successful and try to make Ted look bad.

Funny,,,if AR has a good season and Favre sucks abit, ted looks like a genious,if AR gets hurt and Favre plays like last year,Ted is a bum. unless Brian Brohm comes in and plays well,as he was the most NFL ready qb in the draft, but,it will take him a few years to be completely ready to go,let alone coming in for an injured or ineffective AR.
i have to beleive AR is in the best shape of his life,he studied like theres no tomarrow and is physically, and mentally ready to play and Brohm coming from an NFL family will be as ready as a rookie can be,and might actually be ahead of some young qb;s as football is in his family.

It seems that management is patently two faced and Mr. Thompson is the one posturing and being dishonest. Too bad for the Pack that management has failed them and how long till Thompson gets the gate. Not soon enough for packerland.
Brett Favre hung in with a so-so team and took them farther than thought possible. So the Pack management should be professional and let Brett go to a team that can protect him and use his talents to win, win win. It would be too nice to have the Vikings benefit from Thompson's mismanagement and Favre would be great for Vikes quarterback who definitely could use some tuning up. Go Vikes.

Wow, I really started something. 40 I agree except you contradict yourself because Brett is driving this, so if he decides not to file the papers, he's retired. Which brings me to eric. Favre is not screwing the Packers by not sending in the papers--he's saving them his paycheck (and fining him every day he isn't in camp) until they decide what to do. AR and Brohm (if we sign him) may play well, but ifs and buts, candy and nuts. My theory is that Goodell is trying to play mediator to lay cover for any compromise that might happen. It's win-win, he looks like the man and TT & BF look like they are making nice for the man.

After the standing ovation the shareholders gave Ted today, Brett & Bus must be crushed and will have to come up with a new strategy. Almost certainly Brett will retire now.

You know, Jerry, I had this epiphany today--I'm sure I'm crazy. But remember when Brett talked about "if Aaron goes down and they call" etc.? I think that's his fantasy. I don't think the guy really wants to play elsewhere. He toyed with giving his buddy Bevell a shot but that's dead and unless (long shot) Kubiak's pal Mike Sherman can give him a call on the secret phone I wouldn't be surprised if he never sends in those papers, unless there's a Aaron emergency of some sort. It's weird, but being a southerner I kind of understand the psychology.

NLY the only thing is i dont think TT would call Favre if AR gets hurt.He is satisfied with Brohm as his boy im fiquring,of course we have to see how they practice to def. be sure, but,i honestly dont think TT would call Favre unless Brohm and the 3rd stringer **** ,but, some people think Brohm caould beat Rodgers out as a starter and is better then Rodgers.

Seems to be some discrepancy as to what happened at the shareholders meeting. Some are reporting a frosty reception for Thompson at the meeting. Must depend which side of the Thompson/Favre is discerning the crowd.

I'm sure you're right eric. And once a ship is sinking, bringing in a high priced old guy makes no sense--might as well take your lumps. 40, it's getting like the News channels. They have to read something into everything, and the pre-game shows are mostly people arguing.

You are absolutely correct Eric. After the things he said about Thompson in his TV interview, there is NO chance Ted will call him.

As soon as he realizes the harm he has done to himself, Brett will stay retired. And if he is any kind of a decent person, he'll apologize publicly to Ted Thompson. Look for that to happen!

I gotcha brother. No disagreement. Just expanding on the logic. So looks like the "trade" should happen before tomorrow.
