This story needs to end. Nothing but bad feelings are coming out of this. I would love to see Favre start for the Packers but enough already. Find a different story to drag on about.....

So, was this so called team issued cell phone Brett has reported to the league? If not, that is a salary cap violation! The Pack just shot themselves in the foot by reporting the calls!

It is something monetary that went unreported to the league. Call it a bonus if you will. Now, was this $39.99 a month (low end) something that put them OVER the cap? I highly doubt the Pack were that close. However, it is the fact that it was a "bonus" that went unreported. It is the same thing when a coach (I forgot who and when) publically said he would buy his kicker either a case or bottle of champagne if he won a certain game. The league came down and said he couldn't do that because it was a bonus that wasn't part of the contract.

I think it will be great to see what draft choices the Pack will get for this. It's kind of like Taylor and the Wolves, who tampered with Joe Smith and lost five first rounders. It's kind of cool to watch history repeat itself. Go Pack.

How is it tampering when "they" called the Vikes? That is more of entrapment.

yeah entrapment is about right if favre was the one making all the calls. i really hope this gets resolved pretty soon. this started to annoy me about four days ago and i would really like to hear about something else. the randy moss story was good though.

The league could take a pick away from the Vikes, but GB wouldn't get a pick. Nice idea though.

Let's see...Favre doesn't have his retirement papers filed which means he is still a Green Bay employee...He used equipment owned by the Packers to contact the Vikings...Hmmmmm....
OUCH!!!!!!

We have been violated, like a piece of meat, the injuries to our reputation are deep and lasting....we need to be compensated for this blatant tampering against the Vikes.

Maybe it's in his contract. either way the Pack is way, way under the cap.

It is a violation if they did not include the cost of the phone and its service plan toward the salary cap. All indications seem to point to the conclusion they did not. This is to prevent large 'gifts' or 'perks' being given to players instead of cash in order to keep a team under the cap. It does not matter if it was $1 or $10,000,000. worth of gifts. It is a violation of the salary cap rules if true. It is fantastic that Thompson's desire to try and drag us into his mess may very well backfire!!!

Farve called the Vikes, that is not really tampering per the NFL rules. Ironically Favre can be punished monetarily for tampering. So does that mean his money goes to the Packers? Your logic is that of a typical Packer fan. Clueless.

Good inventory control by the Pack management there with that cell phone... Maybe David Stern was up to his ears in crooked refs -- like the NFL??-- but when Kobe told the Lakers to blow he didn't get involved. I think Goodell should stay out of this. It's not a labor dispute. TT's a man. Let him solve it and live with the consequences. Butt out.

This is what drives this issue: Brett Favre
He had a great year last year on a team that wasn't exactly expecting greatness.
The NFL is about money, as is the PGA and look at that shell of a sport without Tiger.
Goddell getting Favre back into the league is about the bottom line, do you disagree?
Goodell could stay out of it, but MM/TT vs. BF has gotten enough bad press, so Rodger wants to nip it in the bud.
The sooner and the cleaner the break up, the better. Because GB owns his rights, doesn't mean they can do whatever they wish to Brett. Goodell isn't there so much to help the packers as he's there to secure favre a future in the NFL, and more greenbacks in NFL coffers.

You crybabies can have him.

Who wants a quaterback who can't keep his word.

<sob, sob, sob>

I feel burnt out and the passion isn't there anymore. I'm gonna retire.

Fast forward about seven months later.

"I changed my mind, I want to come back. I know I can play again."

WWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH HHHH!!!!

Cry me a river.

I think the Commish told Thompson if he wasn't going to play him, then he had better trade him. If no trade works out, I'd even bet TT was told to release him.
I think even TT sees the corner he is backing into without a reliable means of escape, hence the 11th hour work to get a trade in place.

I guess alls the commish can do is suggest.I dont think Ted would flat our release him,or he would wait until the season started,so he wouldnt be ready to play for a few games into the year,so Minn wouldnt sign him and play him on hte Monday nighter.although i wouldnt mind seeing Favre play at Lambeau for the vikes on that Monday night,we are guar. at least 2 INT in the first qt.as Fave will be throwing all over the place as he would be so fired up and overthrowing ect.

Im sure the commish would tell Ted to release him if he wasnt traded, but,if Ted says he wont release Favre for nothing, theres not a lot the commish can do about that one,but Favre is such a money maker,im sure the commish is worried about the NFL pocketbook and the fan fav.
