Willits KOA, Rude Management,
Expensive as the Ritz Carlton!
I was invited to the Willits KOA for a Birthday Party for my nephew. Upon entering the premises we were stopped by KOA "security" Jennifer (Jenn) Drew,(she is also the manager-which explains alott of the following) who was obviously intoxicated and was very aggressive and hostile, rather than welcoming us as would be expected by a polite campground host. Instead asking if she could help us find our nephews party, Jenn was more worried about the whereabouts of our "bracelets". Having just arrived on the premises (let alone knowing nothing about bracelets) we informed Jenn we were looking for our nephews party, where we could find our bracelets which were waiting for us. After a brief interrogation, and a few snidey rude looks and remarks by Jenn, we were allowed inside the premises to find our 12 year old nephews birthday party and obtain our highly esteemed Willits KOA bracelets.
Our host who had already paid over $300 for two campsites for 2 nights was then presented with the information she would now have to pay an additional $120 to use the community picnic tables near the pool, this would have been fine, but management did not notify that there was an extra fee on top of the already high priced camping. Of course this $120 only covered the guests and picnic tables until 3:00. The management had previously told our hosts there would be no additional fees, but as we were soon to find out, hidden costs abound the Willits KOA galore!
Already $450 into Willits KOA, our parties host was understandably feeling quite ripped off and cheated, especially considering we had been told the picnic table area would be available to us without an additional fee. After our host spent even more unanticipated money, we decided to take the kids on the Disc Golf Course.....
By the 10th hole we were being notified that "Wonderful Jenn" was back at our campsite harassing our hosts -
"I know you have extra people here lingering around the property, they will cost $10 more per person to stay here at the Birthday Party till 7pm"
After determining there was no "extra people lingering" (stopping our game with the kids to take care of Jenn's important issue once again)we asked to speak to the owner whom we called and our phone, left a message, of which a return call was never returned.
Mind you the entire management and employees were drinking throughout the day and were intoxicated with Jenn Drew acting hostile.

It is unbelievable that the Johnson family who recently purchased the Willits KOA after moving here from England, would even consider such a rude person as Jennifer Drew to manage the campground let alone being the welcoming host.
Completely rude and intoxicated, Jenn was the main reason we are dissatisfied with our $500 two night camping experience at the Willits KOA.
If you ever plan on staying at this campground there a few things you should know which they will not tell you:
Firewood $8 a bundle- they are extremely dry fir which 1 bundle will last 1 hour.
No Privacy- A stay at the Willits KOA will guarantee a close relationship with intoxicated security and park hosts.
Not Welcoming- You will be treated nicely only when checking in and handing the hosts your money, after that have your credit card close by, they will find something to charge you extra for.
No Receipts; There must be allot of money being slipped into managements pockets, or not being reported to the IRS since we received no receipt for any of our "extra unanticipated charges".
Intoxicated Hosts: You can expect to deal with one very intoxicated host who is obviously not enjoying her job, Jennifer Drew. The best way to handle her is with a great bit of compassion realizing she hasn't the faintest bit of humility or compassion herself. She is also quite obnoxious, territorial and aggressive.
I challenge you to take the: "Make Jennifer Drew of Willits KOA Laugh Contest"! lol
Not Children Friendly:
This is not the type of park to throw a kids birthday party or stay with children, the hosts will make your kids feel second best and unwelcome.
"Don't you have somewhere to be", is not the way to speak to paying guests.
I have lived in the Willits area for over 35 years being a fifth generation Mendocino County resident, I have never given a negative review before, but the rudeness and lack of professional responsibility at the Willits KOA moved me to let other potential campers know what is in store for them before staying at the Willits Koa!

Quail Meadows, the onl alternative in Willits is just as bad!!
For a Community Campground to treat the Willits Local people this way is a strong statement about their business practices!

Why wouldn't they offer a local discount rather than gouging local people in these tough economic times??

I wonder, Did the owner ever call you back yet??

I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience at the KOA. That sucks. However, I think it is petty to personally rip on someone on a public forum like this and not even provide your own name.

I would do the exact same thing if Willits KOA ripped me off.
Thanks for the warning!
****What??? I stay at Willits KOA every year and have had nothing but great experiences and kind and courteous service! Try finding out the rules and regulations first. Sounds like you were just upset because you got caught not checking in at the front office and finding out the rules and following them. They also have camping in a variety of levels from tent camping up to luxury camping w/personal hot tubs and lodges. So state the facts and quit trying to add a bunch of "rubish" because you for (1) "Do not search out prices and info first" & (2) "Do not follow the rules." ...*Funny how i could be staying at Willits KOA for over 15 years and never encountered any employee working there that seemed the slightest bit intoxicated & never heard or saw anything to even back that up... only this bitter persons desire to sling mud in a childish fashion because he couldn't play by the rules. I will be back next year! All the "Haters" can stay home and "Whine". Had a great weekend and was treated like a king! Thanks everyone ! Keep up the Great Work!!!

I just got back from a Labor Day trip at the Willits KOA. Jenn runs the campground extremely well. It is the CLEANEST campground I have ever been to; they constantly wipe down the tables and pick up trash. Are they picky about the wristbands? Yes! You will be asked to show it. This keeps the people out that do not belong there and keeps your kids safe. There was staff walking around all day-at the pool, the playground, the petting zoo, everywhere. It is a great place to be with a family and our kids can't wait to go back. Jenn is probably not as warm as some people may like, but this is not a B&B. She certainly was never drunk and I saw her every day.

we stayed there one night just after Labor Day. The campground was nearly empty, but it was obvious they have a lot of activities for kids. We were in late and out at checkout. While the lady at the desk wasn't overly friendly, we thought the place was fine, cost about $55 if I remember right. They pick up your trash which I thought was nice.

We weren't around long enough to know or care about any rules. Bracelets were not distributed.

I have heard great things about the experience others had. The only experience I have had was nearly being ran down by the owner in the grocery market several times and then again in the parking lot in her car and having her look at me as if I was the problem...it's fine to be focusedand in a hurry, but if you are uniform...

I think itís fantastic that most of the responses here are negative towards this campground. I hope that anyone deciding whether to stay here or not based upon these comments stays far, far away from this drunken, rude, noisy, crazy driving establishment.

There are a multitude of campgrounds in this area on the verge of financial ruin. The beauty of the Internet is that anyone can post anything anonymously! Donít be fooled; this place is a gem. And if youíre cynical about this post, then bully for you! The fewer of you, the better.

Stayed at Willits KOA last weekend before heading to Earthdance. It was $54 for six of us to stay in tent camping - don't think it gets any cheaper than that. The staff was friendly and helpful but never bothered us in our camping site. We had a fire and stayed up late and were even kind of loud, but never got hassled. Bathrooms and showers were very clean and nice. KOA's are not my first choice in camping (cause they are a bit cheesy), but we had a really nice stay and I would recommend this one.

I think this KOA is great! I've been considering having my daughter's birthday party there and have look up all of the details online. It's $125 to use all facilities for 4 hours for 20 people. Renting a campsite is extra. It's a safe, clean, high end campground and much more. It's worth it. I love what they've done with it and have nothing bad to say.

I visited Willits KOA during the summer of 2009 traveling all the way from Scotland for 3 weeks and i thought our holiday was fantastic. The staff were extremely friendly and the entertainment was excelent, my children realy enjoyed themselves. There was many kids activities all over the park and the shop was full of stuff you might need. All i can say is... Well Done KOA Staff, I will be back to visit soon! Oh and for the 3 week stay at the KOA i spoke with jen on numerous occations and did not once find her rude and i also would never believe she would ever be intoxicated on the job! KOA Willits is amazing for children or even adults looking for a relaxing vacation. John Campbell, SCOTLAND
