Self policing will work if there are consequences for non compliance.
It will take about a month of police patrol. Explain to the skaters that
if an officer sees skaters not wearing helmets the park will be closed for the rest of the day. Soon they make sure that they everyone wears helmets.

Another good ideal...

I don't understand why we keep expecting our kids to be the most responsible people at the table. We are seriously letting our kids down.

We let them down when we coddle them. Lets give them the chance to self regulate Give them the responsibility they will surprise you.

FINALLY, someone with a no brainer response. PARENTS need to be held accountable for their childrens behavior!! Keep blaming the children and we teach the children of today to pass the buck and not take responsibility. Future leaders, WOW, remember these young ones will be caring for you - or in this case putting you in a LTC facility because you are not THEIR responsibility!!

Clearly from your spelling ability you have spent more time skateboarding than going to school. With that said, a sign stating “Skate at your own risk”, is the City’s admission to the dangers of the facility and does not lessen its liability but rather increases it. Signs like that mean nothing, and attorneys love them when they sue.
seriously where did I miss spell anything? I dont mind being called out when im wrong but I was not wrong. I have 2 degrees in business for your information!!
PS: The "at own risk" sign is how LA and San Fransisco settled there skate park issues.
When you enter the baseball field for the amateur games in Ukiah the sign posted says"...at own risk" letting you know the area is a risk of injury, doesn't mean the city can get sued if someone gets hit with a fly ball... and please where did I misspell something???

I think you are correct……..

The first time the park gets shut down because a certain person is not wearing a helmet would be one thing…….

After the second time I am sure that person would take a hard spill on his head…………………..LOL

I wouldn't worry about someone attacking your spelling but I do want to let you know that the world of "Implied Liability" can't be whisked away by simply hanging a sign. A city or a county has a responsibility to keep its citizens safe from all that is foreseeable and this can't be circumnavigated by hanging a sign that says "You're On Your Own". There are many court cases where the hanging of an "At Own Risk" sign didn't stop citizens from successfully suing and winning in a court of law. Laws like these are the bricks in the foundation of accountability, something Mendocino County seriously needs a refresher course on.

Wish the UDJ had CONTACTED ME before they used my name in their ARTICLE. At least ask for a quote. A current one. Not that Mary Ann Landis TRIED to call me. Awesome reporting.
This is why I like UkiahValley.TV
Reporting the news as it happens; not 5 days later and quoting someone from a public comment a year ago.
M'k? Buh bye.

I'm just glad the kids have a place to go skateboard instead of parking lots and schools...if they don't want to wear skateboard helmets I don't have a problem with it http://www.shockgarden.com/activities-skatebo...

The Willits has had a park for a while now, I predicted serious injury would eventually happen, to my limited knowledge that has not happened. I guess skaters would rather be lucky than good.....
