Only in the richest third world country can all men and women be created equal, yet a privledged few can be more equal than others!

Why don't you write about all of the people that rob and burglarize the working people of Fort Lauderdale and how the Broward County court system refuses to jail them? That is unbalanced.

Actually it is another example of the cronyism in the Broward County Court system. It doesn't take a genius to see money and connections at work. Even if those connections are not direct, they certainly work as you can see from this case. It appears that Jr is arrogant and spoiled. I do not know him, nor do I judge him I just make the observation. It is no wonder why people of lesser means feel screwed by the system. In the legal profession they call it "doing a solid" when they look out for one another in the BCCS. What I can't understand is why hasn't any reporter done a single story on how the system works/fails in Broward. It is disgusting, and no one has any guts to call it out for what it is..crooked...! One judge gets popped for smoking pot, no penalty, others accused of bad deeds, and still nothing. When are we as tax payers going to demand reform and a general cleanup of the system in Broward.

I once had someone (an attorney) ask me, "so you are saying that if you have money, you will be treated differently in court?" I could'nt believe she said that.. In response, I threw "OJ" in her face.... The rich always have and always will receive preferential treatment. All of you who vote need to start keeping notes on what these judges do... then vote against them. In fact, I always vote against the incumbent judge.... keeps the bench fresher... maybe not cleaner, but fresher!

Instead of wasting energy worrying about the rich suggest you work harder and think smarter. Then just maybe, one day you may become rich too.

Wayne's boy got a sweet deal and it was not just because he hired an influencial lawyer, it is who he is. A 3rd DUI in 10 years should have carried more jail time, but in this case we can certainly guess why. True DeAngelo's case was a bit different with a 4th DUI and a different judge known for giving the hatchet--Murphy. What should be interesting is whether Mr. Huizenga's driver's license has now been suspended for 10 years by Highway Safety or unless the folks in Tallahassee gave him special treatment. Also when Mr. Huizenga is finished serving his suspension period he shiould be required to use an ignition interlock device for 2 years. Let us see if that actually happens. How nice on his 3rd DUI he got the red carpet. It is who you know not what you know in this state! Time for a change voters wake up and clean house don't vote for incumbents just vote for the new folks and when there term is up the next new folks. This way some of the corruption can be curtailed.
Third Conviction Within 10 Years: Minimum 10 years revocation. May be eligible for hardship reinstatement after 2 years.

Any person convicted of a third DUI within 10 years or a fourth or subsequent DUI commits a Third Degree Felony (not more than $5,000 fine and/or 5 years imprisonment).

Rich boy got off easy. Maybe he and Paris Hilton can start a support group with Lindsey Lohan.

If he was poor or black or hispanic he'd be in jail.

Justice, mr mayo, does NOT mean throwing the book at everyone. He learned his lesson, and he comes from a family that has donated time and money to the community - courts are supposed to take into account the positive a person does; not just the negative. Making it worse for a good person, like mr huizenga, is true justice. Get a grip, mayo.

Why demonize the rich? The guy gives millions away to charity, builds shelters for the homeless, and brought sports teams to our state. He worked hard to be well-off, and if the judge gives him a little better treatment, what business is that of yours? Get off your butt and donate to charity, and leave the successful alone!

Well put. It does show both sides of the justice system, just like the FBI agents case (wrong way on I-95) a few years ago.

A quote by King Lear seems appropriate to elevate these comments:

Plate sin with gold,
And the strong lance of justice hurtless breaks:
Arm it in rags, a pigmy's straw does pierce it.

In other words, nothing much has changed since Elizabethan England (and before :-).

Judge Kaplan was paid off. Bought and paid for. Just like the judge with Paris Hilton.
