Cyclone kills at least 351 in Myanmar, state-run TV reports

YANGON, Myanmar - A powerful cyclone killed more than 350 people, destroyed thousands of homes and knocked out power in the country's largest city, state-run media said Sunday.

When Florida was hit by several devastating Hurricanes several years ago, some of us had to resort to a primitive way of life...

light by candles.
no cellphones.
no refrigeration.
no air conditioning.
no hot water.
diminishing supply of fresh water.
streets blocked by fallen trees and power lines.

Relations between Myanmar and the rest of the world have been almost non-existant in recent years.
United States has placed a ban on new investments by U.S. firms, an import ban, and an arms embargo on the Union of Myanmar, as well as frozen military assets in the United States because of the military regime's ongoing human rights abuses, the ongoing detention of Nobel Peace Prize recipient Aung San Suu Kyi, and refusal to honor the election results of the 1990 People's Assembly election.
Similarly, the European Union has placed sanctions on Burma, including an arms embargo, cessation of trade preferences, and suspension of all aid with the exception of humanitarian aid.
maybe this cyclone was God's way of showing his displeasure with the nation. Too bad so many innocent people suffered...

I knew it, I have been saying this the whole time....why give him credit just for the good stuff?

I think that is what we need, we need to start holding him responsible.

If I have laws that govern my actions, then we must incarcerate the chosen one for failing to protect us on 9-11, for the Sunami, New Orleans, the CALIF. Fires, Floods and now for this Cyclone.

I demand we bring him in and get some answers. Him and his partners, Mother Nature, Santa Anna, Global Warming.

They don't have oil, nor do we export anything to them. Therfore, the US's official policy is "we'll give them money whenever they get around to accepting it". Rest assured, had a cyclone slammed into Iraq (or Iraw as last week's story referred to it), we'd have been there with the entire Navy and Red Cross ships loaded with food in 1 day. Hmmm.

This Country needs to stop trying to tell other Countries how to operate and then invading them when they tell us to kiss off.

That being said, this is a humanitarian issue and not a political issue. If California suddenly broke off into the Pacific, would you be offended if Mexico and Canada offered assitance?

Let em all die!! We cant feed and house our own. Why do we have to shove our aid to them. We have no vested intrests there. Dont play the humanitarian card either. They dont want our bleeding heart help. It sucks innocent people that cant over throw their crappy govt. But neither can 80 percent of the countries in Africa. Its time that America puts it resouces back into US. Look at rich countries like Qatar and UAE. They are building and planning to be resouceful after the oil dries up. You dont see them running to every country that has some osrt of natural disater. No one is planning ahead when disater strikes..including americans. It has shown over and over!! Secure ourborders..bring jobs home..sell our resources and build amrica strong again. Get big oil out of the polital scene too!!

No, I mean faux news. Fox used to be a decent channel back in the 90's.

But on that note, the only TV I see these days is on a wall in a restaurant or in an electronics store if I'm out and about. I haven't paid a cable bill in over 4 years. That, I love.
