Perfect!
Looks like Tampa Bay is trying to leap frog everybody on Malone. They just traded a 4th round pick to Pittsburgh for exclusive negotiating rights until July 1st.

IF...

IF Vancouver goes to try and resign Bertuzzi (which is already rumored) and they sign AULD as a ****/A backup..

That will mean we traded Roberto Luongo for Bryan Allen!!

LOL!

Brilliant!

OMFG so we can pretty much take Malone out of the equation already. Why wouldn't you want to take Bertuzzi, DK? The guy played in 7 games for us and had 7 points. Don't tell me his best years are behind him, that's ridiculous. He had an average year last year and he obvioulsy wasn't comfortable with the Ducks, so sign him. He owes us. Sean Bates.... I don't know. I like the grit part of his game but can he net 20 goals? That's what we need is a 25-30 goal scorer. Looks like Melrose is going to have one hell of a team next year. The cane's held onto Ruutu and the caps have Ovechkin (with emerging talent) and lets not forget the Thrash have Kovalchuk. But we have Horton so it's even. Not. Looking at the free agent list... I see really only Michael Ryder fitting nicely. But we also need power at center and I like Brendan Morrison for that.

But hey, we know JM and he's either not going to sign anyone or sign Byron Ritchie to a multi-year deal. If we want grit why not go after Jarko Ruutu? Huselius finally has his stick held the right way go after him? Rolston??

Guys, as much as I enjoy dreaming like the rest of you... Martin won't be signing anyone major this offseason. Let's face it, he already acknowledged that this club will be spending just above the league minimum and far below the cap. Meanwhile teams like Tampa are loading up on major talent to the cap. They already are eying Malone and Roberts and they are just getting started. As Barry Melrose said in his first Tampa press conference, "We're going to win by paying the price. Playing hard. Out working other teams. When they (opposing teams) walk in this building, <ooof> they'll say let's take tonight off...will go beat Florida tomorrow night". Knowing Melrose, that's exactly what will happen. Teams will come down here ready to paste Florida for an easy two points knowing that Tampa will be the more difficult team to win against. Because Florida has such a weak offense and mentality with "no killer instinct" (as Potvin often mentioned), the outcome will be fairly predictable. Unless DeBoer works miracles, this team is predicated on no heart, no passion, no hussle and very weak intensity. They have zero mental fortitude and discipline. Remove 80 points from that equation and that spells disaster.

Why don't I want Bertuzzi? because his best days were five years ago. He's 33 years old, injury prone, usually over paid and hasn't been the same player since the "incident". If he didn't produce in Detroit and Anaheim (much better teams than the Panthers) why would you expect him to produce big numbers here? Also saying he "owes us" is ridiculous.

BTW, If you think Horton evens
out with the Caps having Ovechkin and the Thrashers having Kovalchuk you need to have your head checked. Those are the type of players the Panthers need and despite having a few cracks at it in the top of the draft have never been able to pick or develop. It takes Horton 2 years to the score the goals those guys get in one.
No comparison there. Might want to check the stat sheets before posting.

I wouldn't mind the Panthers bringing in Ryder at all. He's till young and had two 30 goal season prior to this one. I don't think they are going to add a big-time player but I think they absolutely need to add two forwards capable of 20-30 goals. I'd like to see them go after Brian Rolston and (even though I'm usually against recycling players) Niklas Hagman. Others worth taking a look at might be Ryde, Andrew Brunette, Brendan Morrison or Darcy Tucker. I wouldn't bother with Bates we have plenty of other guys who can fill his role.

Funny thing is if the Panthers would have taken Melrose, the old Red Buffoon would be droning on and on about how this organization chose a coach who has been on the sidelines for 10+ years in the broadcast booth. Amazing.

You mut read other ppls posts while jacking off, I said the Panthers didn't match up to any teams in the division. You are such a piece of crap, man. Bertuzzis best days aren't behind him. Besides, he's one of the few quality free agents available.

You are so stupid you don't even know what you are posting. You said the Panthers were even with the other teams in SE stars because they had Horton. Go back and read your own post you stupid no nothing *******ing moron and tell me where you said the Panthers don't match up!!! And look up Bertuzzi stats while you are at it. It's taken him the last 5 years to match the point totals he put in his 2 career years in Vancouver. Nothing against him but he's pretty much done at least as a front line player. Not my fault if you have a stiffy for the guy.

Why don't you and some others on here actually learn the game or at least research what you are posting about before you hit the post comment button. You just make yourselves look stupi time after time after time.

Perhaps if these so-called sports scribes, instead of ruining an account executive's life concentrate on the athlete instead, they would do some digging and find out exactly why Mike Gillis - GM of Vancouver - did not want Olli in the first place.
Start questioning folks, instead of believing everything you read - there definitely was an issue that has yet to come out in public that neither Gillis - nor Pete DeBoer for that matter - wanted to deal with by having Olli in their dressing room.
Hate to see him leave - but he had to go.
Enuf said - let's see some investigative journalist go-getter get out and find the real story.
Gillis's comment about Ollie was based on what he had heard from sources. Then again, Gretzky did his own "vetting" of Ollie and came away with a very different opinion. Of course, Wayne's played the game and he knows far more about what goes on behind the scenes than Vancouver's player's agent turned GM. Of course, Wayne has quite a few Cup rings in his collection and Gillis has none.

And yes, we should not castigate a lowly ticket rep with the Panthers, who is paid next to nothing and asked to work ridiculous hours for the organization. Instead, the blame falls entirely on his bosses who instructed him and his cohorts what to say to potential buyers who have concerns about Ollie's departure. Pedro, Chad and the senior staff run a very tight ship over at BAC and call all the shots.

Well, not exactly. The Panthers did get Matthias thrown into the mix when they moved Bertuzzi to Detroit. Still not the best of deals, but hopefully Matthias will take some of the sting out of it if he turns into a quality NHL player

Bertuzzi is not a good free agent option. Forgetting for a moment about Bertuzzi's bad back, he's not the kind of character guy this team needs. They need players with character, not guys who are "characters. Malone is a good option. Good production and still upside potential on the right team. Only reason the Pens are keeping him is because they just don't have enough money under the cap given all the money they have to pay out over the next few years.

TGH, Louie and the rest of you rah-rah-rah the 'future is bright for the Panthers' posters...

Even you have to admit that, in order to be competitive, the Panthers must be able to not just compete but dominate our foes within the Southeast Division.

With Washington, Tampa and Carolina ramping-up, do you HONESTLY believe we can consistently beat these three teams?

If Martin doesn't score some serious offensive UFAs for this team, we will not have a chance against these up and coming teams.

Jacques! WAKE UP AND LOOK AROUND.
