Cops are above the law! It is obvious they don't give a damn about anything but covering their own as.ses! I think the Attrny Gen should get involved! I guess he would turn his back also, After "Its only a dog"!This also could have been a person waiting for the LEO to him in. No one would have heard him yelling! Think about those doors that won't open from the inside, and you are sitting there in 125 degree heat!

Oh Yea Right! What do you expect from a police department, revert back to horse and buggy, bicycle, or maybe a police bus with all the cops on the beat that day riding together, it would be safer that way for each call, the one or two calls a day they can actually make it to.
Get real! These LEO are dumb! O I C U R 1 2!

Isn't it illegal to leave an unattended car running?

Is there some kind of canine exception?

I think, to only be fair to the officer, she should be left in the same car for an hour, just like her dog.

We have dum as- white boys running our police depts also. I remember when their standard procedure was to have an officer stand in traffick to give tickets & so many of the dum as-es did we lost a lot of officers. This dog lost his life due to the same dum as- white boy procedures.

I doubt that the AC failed, More like she forgot to leave it on! Its rare for an AC to be working and then just stop with no warning!

Had John Q. Public left their automobile running for an hour without the driver being inside, let-alone with an animal of any kind in it, we would have been ticketed at the very least!

Disgusting; both the loss of the dog's life and in this day with 4$ + dollar gasoline to be leaving a car running for that amount of time.

This is what happens when there is no accountability. The police think the gas is theirs to burn, like it's cheaper than water. Make the officer and her supervisaors pay for a new dog, and the gas used.

Hey,calling all retards without any knowledge of police procedures.........Oh , you are already here. It is procedure to leave the dog in the car with the A/C. This is done in every PD in every city, in every state. You idiots without a clue think you know everything. LE procedures have been developed over many years, and yes while some can be improved upon, and some change, most do not. There is a reason for everything an officer does, thank you. Some of these posts show just how IGNORANT the general public is.

If this was a public citizen and the A/C failed and there was not heat alarm, guess where the person would be? Jail.

Luckily the police are ABOVE the law.

The car was a 2004 Ford Crown Victoria, American made, and you do not expect the A/C to fail? The police cars run all the time and the parts do not last as long as the parts would last on a vehicle that is used by a person that puts the normal mileage on a vehicle. The heat alarm should have been installed before the dog was allowed into the car. Or, the officer should have used her own head and turned the car off and brought the dog with her. Stop relying on American made products. Overall, it is not the officers fault because this is procedure and it does not happen often. But, once is way too often for me!

How hard is it to outfit these cars with monitors that unlock the car doors if the temperatures rise above a certain level? You can buy them from any public safety company. I'm sure now they'll be mandatory on K-9 vehicles.
Truly senseless considering we live in a sub-tropic zone.

I can't believe that a police officer, especially a HANDLER wouldn't trust their gut and bring the dog inside with them, instead of leaving a car running outside on a hot day.......she lost her dog due to the ASSUMPTION that nothing out of the ordinary would happen in that time. If you wouldn't leave a child in the car with it running in the hot sun, why would you do so with a highly trained, expensive police dog?

It just doesn't make sense to me.

Not at fault!!!???? He left the dog in a running car, wasting gas for over an hour! What if the car had just stalled?? He should be held accountable for contributing to the dogs death!

It may be policy, but for over an hour!? I think not. That officer needs to be held accountable. GD cops think they are above the law!!!!
