and not one police officer got off their fat **** to go outside the satation and look to see if she needed help when she got there? What are they running, a game show? They only help if you can make it in on your own thru the front door? They should all be fired.

Restraining orders are just paper and calls related as domestic abuse are taken as just routine. Look at how many murders are the result of domestic abuse! The law must be changed to punish abusers on the first incidence and not after a murder is committed. If police go out, then let them decide3 on charges and not the victim who may fear for their life if they take action against the abuser.(and don't let them loose the next day to go back and get their revenge.)
Before you post something like this, you need to educate yourself.
Domestic violence arrests are made every day.
The arrestee is not released the next day. He/she must go before a magistrate. That takes more than a few days.
Except for in special circumstances,(because of the victim being intimidated or romanced into changing their minds about prosecuting), the state does it on their behalf, so charges cannot be dropped.
A restraining order, in and of itself, is a piece of paper.
It is a part of the process, not the ONLY process.
It is not FAIR, but if you look at the whole picture, a home, a job, a phone number that your assailant is familiar with is not WORTH your safety and your life.
Sometimes, you have to give one- or all of them- up in order to create as many inconveniences for the person who is set on stalking and harming you.
THINGS are replaceable. Your LIFE is not.

I think that both operators should be fired because there is no way they followed the proper procedure with regards to that 911. It should have a mattered who was chasing her only that the woman needed help and due that lck of help she was killed. There is no excuse and the police stations should not be backing them up. When people call 911 for help they expect to get it!!!!

Another failure of police to assist someone in danger. Concealed carry is the only way to ensure you are protected because the police will use the excuse that they can't be everywhere. Why would a police dispatcher have to look up the PD address? Sounds like two inept dispatchers to me.

A frantic lady on the way to the PD & they couldnt even get an officer outside?????????? What were they so busy doing? No, wait till shots are fired, then get get the officer outside....just like the mess at columbine....you're better off with a gun in your hand than a cellphone any day of the week, and twice on the W/E

As usual neanderthal men killing helpless women. it makes one wonder IF the dispatchers @ 911 were men as well and contributed to this poor womens death!!! the hatred and venom from men against women is getting worse and worse. As we get educated and become more successful and prominent in society men cant handle it thus they kill us or abuse us.the tide is turning and when Ms. Clinton is president it will be warfare and this carnage against women by all men will cease or at least have retaliation ONCE AND FOR ALL

A few comments stated that she should have not stopped or gotten out of her car but if I read correctly she had actually found the police station on her own and was steps away from the police station door when she was murdered. I may have read it wrong but if that is the case she did what she thought was going to be the safest thing.

I am in no way going to defend 911 operators, they have done some stupid things,(I actually read/saw a report last week of an operator falling asleep in the middle of a call where a girl thought someone had broken into her home). But there are instances where time is limited and the 911 operator has to get the call under control, just the same as when a life guard is trying to save someone from drowning - they will push them under the water for a second, or a fire fighter is trying to save some one and they shake them. It's kinda like a slap in the face to snap the person out of the panic. There are better ways then screaming "Shut Up". There is a need for sensitivity training. After seeing more and more instances of death due to 911 error the individual counties may want to think about employing an on site police officer - maybe even a retired police officer that can provide the proper steps in these type of situations.

My prayers go out to the family of Olidia Kerr Day.

"The Sunrise police operator steps in, asks Day to stay on the line and says he is trying to look up the police station address."

Uh-h couldn't they have sent the police to her? Kinda hard to miss a frantic woman being chased by a gunman. Too many times these 911 operators try to solve the crime over the phone when they should just get the info and dispatch ...that's it!

You really do need to find out if Plantation or Sunrise have any programs where you can sit in with dispatch on different shifts for a few days.
Oh heck, let's make it a week.
Then, you will be able to see what goes on behind
the scenes and maybe you will walk away with a different attitude.
Well how's this one einstein....my dad is a retired POLICE CHIEF!!! and one of the first things that he would ask an officer or employee when they came in for a job interview was.."what is located at 1234 Scout Street (for example) and obviously it was the address to the police dept. that they were sitting in....and he would tell me that half of them just sat there thinking and couldn't figure it out...so obviously they were not hired! that kind of STUPIDITY is exactly what those two dispatcher's displayed!! unexcusable!!

Until our court systems do something about these psycho abusers and lock them up, this will continue to happen. My Ex should be committed to a psycho ward after cursing at a judge during our hearings and throwing chairs (he is bi-polar and admitted that he is not taking meds because nothing is wrong with him), but the court let him walk around free - free to threaten me and our child. So now I walk on eggs and constantly look over my shoulder...

Being around Plantation area, the 911 operators OR the lady in trouble probably couldn't speak English well enough.
This happening in that area doesn't suprise me at all.
Plantation is around 70% English as a first language and out of those who don't speak English as a first language, about 80% are fluent in it. Get a life.

It is proven that an empty marked patrol vehicle has a "calming" effect on traffic. It also gives the bad guy the impression that there is a cop on foot somewhere in the area.
Sure--They even put dummies in them. Problem is, the dummies looked better than the cops!

Plantation Police Department wouldn't have helped anyways. They are one of the worst when it comes to handeling domestic violence issues. I know, because I am a survivor of domestic violence and asked for their help, and never got it. They lost my restraining order, twice. When I walked into their office for help, the duty officer told me to go back to the place of the attack and then they would respond! And she couldnt find my restraining order. She then told me to go home and call her from there and she would send someone to my home. The catch is, I was afraid to go home. After I finally did, they sent a policeman who actually saw the damage done and instructed me on safety and self defense. Now, since the incidence happend outside of Plantation, I was given BSO's number and they were on it within minutes. So, with all of that said, I advise anyone who has survived domestic Violence, to learn to protect yourself and most definitely do not depend on Plantation Police Dept for any type of assistance.
