There's been quite a few articles recently on police dispatchers who dropped the ball and the poor callers lost their lives. This case, however, doesn't seem to be one of them. The derranged person killed her outside the station, so even if the address had been readily available, it probably would have ended the same.

In the end, it's so sad this woman lost her life. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Cell phones are horrible when you call 911. It never transfers you to the right department and should you move around, you always get transfered around. I wish they had some type of global 911 or tri-county something or other to save people the trouble of getting transfered and delayed.

MJP...they DO NOT make too much money, believe me! You have no idea what a 911 op has to go thru on a daily basis. 911 op's are taught u must try to calm/get the attention of the caller to get the needed info. It is VERY tuff to get info from someone screaming and trying to decifer thru the screams..... BUT I do have a problems with the Plantation operator. They hear the caller asking for their address to get to a safe place, to have Police there to intercept the suspect. She did not speak up and give it, it was the Sunrise op that was trying to get it for the caller. They hear the woman giving her exact location/intersection and Plantation still does not give her the address. She had to fall upon it/die upon it. I AM NOT BLAMING THE DEATH ON THE OPERATOR, but an address shud have been given to that caller.

Retired schoolteacher???

Here's a lesson from domestic abuse/murder 101:

Never stop driving while being chased by someone with a gun...

she should have just kept driving erratically and asking the 911 operator to send a cop or two to a certain intersection where she would be seen by them. My experience with police stations is that they are secure fortresses in their lobbies and not a sole around. The poor lady made a bad judgement there. She should have driven on to find a cop and get his attention; he'd be more ready to deal with the lunatic.

Why the hell were there not Police officer outside of both police stations waiting for her??? Maybe.... just maybe they would have been able to intervien and save her life had they been there waiting?????
Just goes to show how unreliable our 911 system is in proper training.

I agree with Genius of Love..she should have gone where there was a lot of lights and people. the police should have followed her there.. but then.. hindsight is 20/20. what would we have done..? who knows.. Its a scarey situation.. I called one time.. the *FHP and was told...sorry we dont handle that area.. And that is with the signs posted that if you need help.. Oh well.

It is sad...The article makes it sound like the operators just sat on the phone with the victim. I mean, why weren't the operators more pro-active? I wouldn't have stopped my car ANYWHERE, personally. I would've just drove up and down Broward Blvd/University Dr doing 80+ MPH. I'm sure that would've gotten the police's attention.

forget about a Police Station Address, the police should have been dispatched to find the lady driving in her can and get a description of the car following her. That would have saved her life. The police could have intercepted the chaser. Dumb operators, you have to think out of the box! My condolences to the woman's children and family.

Wow the one opportunity that the cops had to justifiably shoot a man and they were not even there. I guess if 911 told the police station that there was a gunman heading to their station then they would have been there.
This is why I have my own gun...in South Florida you can not count on cops to protect you.

My neighbor and his girlfriend broke into my house at 2 am...an hour later when cops arrived they refused to take a report...and forced the neighbors to apologize.

South Florida is an embarassment to this country.

This is such a sad situation. I knew this woman as a neighbor from that house when we lived in Plantation. I do believe she left the house knowing he was going to do something drastic and she did not want he children see it. She basically was running for her life. My prayers go out to all 3 of her children, and may she finally rest in peace.

I saw the story about a week ago on 7 news.

Sun Sentinel is not a good source of news...I don't even think that they know what breaking news is.

Unfortunately journalists do not get paid well at all...teachers make more money...and since this is South Florida, finding any quality employees are hard enough but finding a quality journalist to work 'round the clock for a salary of $25K is very difficult.

Sorry welcome to paradise deal with it.

Tragic story but hardly any one's fault.
Let's hope some greedy bloodsucker lawyer doesn't waste every one's time and money with a lawsuit saying the dispatcher did something less than she could.
The guy was intent to kill. He'd have used any other available weapon
no excuse

Another fine example of incompetence from the 911 operators. At least know the address of the agency, you're working for. And to the hypocrites who are criticizing the poor lady about bad judgement, I'd like to see how well you handle the situation, when someone is chasing you around with a gun, trying to shoot your **** and you have absolutely nothing to defend yourself with.

The idiot operator should have given her sound advice to keep driving, dispatch an officer to intercept, and she may be still be alive right now. And don't tell me the operator did not get a chance to relay sound advice, if he/she had time to tell the lady to "shut up", surely he/she had time to relay the advice.

The moral of the story here folks, is don't count on the 911, or police to save your skin, when you're in a situation like that, instead arm yourselves, and refuse to become a victim. Exercise your constiutional rights.

This proves how useless the police are at preventing a crime if she had a firearm and was trained how to use it she would be alive.
