Not to be insensitive, but why are taxpayers responsible for providing funding for these family's. For me personally, I would not mind helping out when we can, but the fact of the matter is that we are broke! There is NO MONEY PEOPLE! THE WHOLE COUNTRY IS BROKE!!
Oh, except if you are a union member working for the government, then there is a way to scratch up some feed, along with raises like the "contract" states.

Germany?

I think the issue is not spending the money. THese ae important services any civilized society provides. How it's spent and how to best serve the client as well as the taxpayer.

Autistic kids, no, conferences and trips si!The "shortfall" at the Department of Health did not stop them from sending staff all over the country for "training" and "conferences," especially the doctors from epidemiology.

Broke? George Bush isn't broke. Dick Chenney isn't broke. None of their friends are broke. The country is filled with people who are not broke who in fact got there one the backs of the rest of us who are broke. Now, as a citizen I just want health care for all of these other broke people and the people who are not broke don't. "Why should I pay for these peoples heatlth problems?" Because it is the right thing to do!

It's criminal. Meanwhile, the State bureaucracy for these services is laden with too many employees doing too little. And, at the top, the money coming in from the feds is being siphoned off by theives masquerading as helpers. The job of social workers in this State is to keep people like those named in this story and others from getting any services at all. Remember, God judges a society based on how it treats its weakest, most vulnerable members, and this society is going to hell in a handbasket for sure. It would be interesting to know how this situation compares to that in other states, maybe some where State officials and employees are held accountable for their crimes.

What if you lose your job in Los Alamos and your health benefits and then try and get insurance. "Oh, you worked in at the labs, sorry. You don't have cancer yet but you might get cancer. Go ask another insurance company, or better yet file a suit against the government." You'll die before you get your money. Now, maybe you will change your mind, Righty.

Many New Mexicans "JUST Don't get it" and the exuse of not helping New Mexicans because they are "right wings" is shameful. The last 7 years in New Mexico under Richardson has been a one way street. School districts have been held hostage if they disagreed with Richardson, politicos kissing up to him to get attention from him; and Richardsons greedy tactics to benifit himself while our children where neglected... Richardson should just go back NOW where he came from... It is time to rid of the politicos regardless of political party who only support greed. These Politicos and their lices should think about New Mexicans and their problems. Right winging is just an excuse. It is time to come together for New Mexicans needs and forget about the political horse manure.

And wouldn't support for a federal Medicare health program solve this problem? Here again is another example of those who have insurance not understanding the difficult and unmanageable problems of those who don't have, or don't have enough, insurance. For those who say a federal program means long waits, try that argument with these folks...looks like we already have long waits and no choice!

..is beyond pathetic. Some people have been waiting for services for more than six years? All the while we can affor to pay useless appointed state employees to basically do nothing. These people with autistic kids should look into the Texas Hill Country School outside of San Marcos Texas. They have a website.

remember this. right wingers and left wingers. all new mexicans must come together and not let this continue on for 4 more years. We cannot vote Denish into office. If the democrats cannot find someone who is honest and has integrity and does not owe everyone something or another, then we must vote for the best person. Not the party. We just can't have this behavior any longer and Denish is exactly the same as our selfish, self centered, cheating, poor excuse for a man Gov.

New Mexico is down there with Mississippi in terms of poverty and the uninsured. The unemployment rate is less than the national average because so many people never got a job in the first place.

That said, didn't Richardson campaign on promises about increasing health care and whatnot?

Well he did the opposite, NM is worse than it was.

Many people who move to NM from the east coast or west coast openly say that NM is like a third world country. It really is.

NM just needs to face up to the fact that it is one big corrupt failure, and there's nothing that will fix that right now.

My daughter is on DD Waiver and it has been a blessing that can not be discribed. My daughter has CP, Diabetis Type I and many other physical disabilities. This program provides services to allow her to have a decent as normal as possible life. These programs provide services
such as home living at a cost of half what it would be if she were in an institution. Anyone who would deny these individuals care and the hope of some degree of quality life is heartless. Our country wastes so much money supporting other countries and fighting useless unnecessary wars and yet we cut funding for individuals who are helpless, it's really disgusting to see what our priorities are.

Lets take the money away from private jets, railrunners that doesn't serve the poublic and where they exagerate the passenger numbers. to try to cover up a usless and costly transportation service, what about cutting the high paid positions the governor gives in return for donations to cover up his presidential debt and, so are we to say that we are going back to institututionalization a slap in the face to the Jackson Lawsuit, are we to begin hiding our kids aND REVERT BACK TO THE OLD DAYS, come on Governor you can do better that that, cut your trophies and help the people out, oh yes are you moving out of New Mexico as soon as your term is over? You really made this democrat upset and furious. Reconsider and fight for those who can't fight for themselves, like god said the meek shall inherit the earth. Pray that we get funding for the persons with disabilities.

Actually, the money was already earmarked for this purpose and voted on by us and approved. This is why I never ever vote for government to spend money. They can't be responsible enough and It is never used for it's intended purposes. School bonds, a new fire house, improved 911 service, etc... we foolishly vote to approve funding for these things yet the recipients never ever get it... VOTE NO!! Oh, and btw, your conservative state of Colorado is NOT broke. Only and mostly liberal states, such as Illinois, michigan, cali, and New Mexico are broke. Not Co, OK, TX... wonder why?
