Pretty damning testimonials... I hope the courtroom testimony will be adequately covered by ALL the local press.

No amount of spin can erase what people saw and witnessed that night. I just hope that the jury listens to the evidence and comes up with a just verdict. I feel for both families...The Tenorio family needs justice and closure and the Fierro family needs justice and closure on this too. My hope is that the jury doesn't look at this as a case between a Native American and a celebrated Hispanic attorney. I want the jury to remember that the facts are what matter not Native American versus Hispanic. I trust the jury system and will wait the outcome of a very painful event that happened in November 2008. Please remember that what you the jury decide you will have to live with the rest of your life...

The facts are in, Fierro was drunk, he hit Tenorio, he tried to get away, a police officer was in the car, they both failed to render aid, how on earth could they get off? Make it your business to go to the trial, ask your friends to go. Headlights need to be on, jumping medians, stumbling, slurring...please Fierro is already getting special privileges he's on the street. I know he's drinking.

I agree with Migrant Worker. Sadly, he will get off. More important than all the facts is that Fierro is "12th generation New Mexican". The CORRUPT powers-that-be in this state will find a way to acquit or to throw out the case.

White Migrant Worker has a point. It makes perfect sense to me that Fierro will get off. His defense team will make mincement out of the prosecution.

Perhaps they should try to get him on income tax evasion?

Excuse me, but if this SFNM rag calls the local DA "Spence" in quotes one more time, I'm gonna throw up. A. Pacheco is a small-time DA from New Mexico, not even remotely similar in skill, experience or resources to Jerry Spence, the world-famous defense attorney with 50 YEARS of successful litigation under his belt, to whom the paper keeps obliquely referring.
That aside, I pray that Ms. Pacheco is at least sufficiently trained and prepared to obtain fair and correct verdicts from the jury on this unfortunate DUI/manslaughter case.

do not have as much faith in a judicial system as i used. saying that i still believe in this particular trial Fierro will NOT go free. I really, really believe he's be convicted. Unless somehow our DA's office muffles this up big time.

not forget that Fierro was charged w/DUI. According the New MExican Pacheco didn't indict Fierro in time and Fierro got away with being charged a DUI. What a shame. I have no idea why anyone voted for Pacheco. It was the wrong thing to do.

Why because you drink with him? This is ridiculous, and no I don't know any of these people caught up in the mess before your give some simpleton response. I am tired of ignorant folks like you. Maybe you are too ignorant to know that the BMW he was driving has automatic headlights, how do I know? because I worked on those cars for the last 9yrs. I wouldn't be surprised if there are witnesses who saw his lights on and the this rag being what it is is printing half truths. As for the special privileges...how do you figure? Its called bond/bail. Damn if anything happens to one of us in this town and the corrupt SFPD and ignorant people like you hammer away. Tell you what, put down your book on conspiracy theories and pick up something called the constitution, its the one that protects the rights of everyone, even you.

Hmmmmmmm, another drunk fellow Native brother in the middle of the road gets hit by a car...there are hundreds of stories like that all over NM., doesn't matter if drivers are drunk or not, its an epidemic amongst our community from sleeping on the train tracks in Gallup or wandering aimlessly in the roads at night drunk, and sadly this case is missing that key point because we are all to caught up in the media sensationalism. Sorry, but had the guy been paying attention and not walked into the middle of the street backward this NEVER would have happened., thats the bottom line.

You bring up great points, but I think it can go the other way to. I think that she is so incompetent that she is pursuing this case given the media attention and ignoring more important cases. My husband practiced law for 30yrs and in every state if you are in the middle of the road, jaywalking..that alone puts the blame on you. Here the facts show a lot of fault on part of the poor man. Sometimes accidents happen, but I think that Spence and the SFPD are so corrupt they only go after some and not all. I wouldn't be surprised if she lets obvious accidents go and screws those cases up just because she wants a name in this case where the evidence is likely not there. Sad accident but small town hype

Not a drunk? Get your facts straight, he was always drinking, he was an alcoholic and its unfortunate. He used to beat the living heck out of my cousin who he was married to but where was the justice for her, where were all of you when he spent years drunk, not working, beating her up, never raising the kids, getting another woman pregnant and then waiting 12yrs to DNA test his own son to avoid paying $30,000 in child support, or all the times he was stopped for drinking and driving, getting in fights, I am sorry, this is an awful accident and its sad, but don't you dare try and paint him as some model husband/father when that is far from the truth.

Mr. Fierro couldn't have known whether the person he struck was a drunk, or a saint. And, it really doesn't matter which. DWI and leaving the scene of an accident is a crime regardless of who the victim may have been. The character of the victim has nothing to do with the degree of the crime.

i think politics will play a big part in this. it does not matter who was what in terms of a drunk, wife beater or whatever. everyone deserves justice because fiero is who he is, he will get special treatment. he probably will get off, new mexico being what it is, corrupt.

Interesting, but can you explain to me how that works? So Udall or MCain are going to call the DA and juge? seems to be the pols he worked for, or do they call the jury. Like to see some detail on your theory.
