The County buys mobile home parks, turns the over to a non-profit to fix up and rebuild. I suppose this site will be in pertituity a subsidized housing site for seniors. Nice to see your tax dollars at work providing the diversity that we so desire in order to make all of us FEEL GOOD about ourselves.

As for County Planners and Jan Beautz surprised as to costs, they have very little experience or education when it comes to land development and why things costs what they do...and should stay away from further development efforts.

So that's $5.8 million in addition to the original taxpayer $1.5 million in "investment," or over $100,000 per coach. Who owns the coaches and if it is individuals, how much can they be and are being sold for?

There are families living there too not just seniors.

It's the same mobile home park that had a shooting or stabbing a couple years ago.

Here's the kicker. The County "sold" the park to South County Housing Corporation for $1. Now they've handed over $5.8 million. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Do you see why Felton residents are so steamed about the County and other sources doling out $6 million to develop that meadow in Felton.

More of my tax dollars wasted??? How nice. I'd like my backyard landscaped. How do I sign up for that?

The coaches are deed restricted. RDA subsidizes the project, South County Housing owns the land, the residents will then live in County-controlled housing.

This is why we are not getting roads repaired. The Supervisors budgeted their money away from public works to their favorite social engineering projects.

I am so glad to see the money go to a mobile home park instead of something useless like schools, potholes, bike paths, Arana Gulch, keeping sewage off Cowell shoreline, smoothing that washboard West Cliff path, etc.

Then it can be priced right out about 10 years later in never-never land like the park on are doing right now to fixed-income residents on Deleware, West Cliff, or in Castroville....

It's no coincidence that on the same day the Stupes gave South County Housing Corp another $3,849.782.00 (item 94)....they also made numerous changes to County Code that prevent the private property owner from providing housing:

Items 94 and 97: http://sccounty01.co.santa-cruz.ca.us/bds/Gov...

Government subsidized housing is the goal.

If you read the agenda for the Supes you will see that the cost was higher because of landscaping, fencing, a community center, etc. I'm all for fixing up blight with RDA money where there's health hazards (dilapidated septics or house structure,) but this RDA thing with South County is really going too far with our tax dollars. Actually, it's crazy! Does anybody other than the Supes get to say how our money is spent? Are they REALLY representing us? It feels more like a runaway train.

Remember to vote June 3rd!

Let me think. Now who is it we are supposed to remember on “Memorial Day?” Is it those truly brave American men and women who fought and died to secure our God-Given Rights?

At the same meeting where the five Stupidvisors unanimously gave millions of our tax money to their favorite government/private partner, SCH, to support “low-income” government housing, they passed the code enforcement regulations that give the local Gestapo or KGB, as some speakers referred to the Planning Department, instructions to evict tenants from alleged non-approved rental housing that could cost the dastardly property owner who dares to provide housing to a “low income renter” over 50 to 100 thousand dollars in fines and forfeiture.

Message to all who support: Life, Liberty and Property. On June 3, 2008, leave no Stone in 5th District Supervisor office, rid the office of 2nd District Supervisor from another 4 years of “Attorney” Pirie, who supposedly has sworn to uphold the Constitution, but, who hasn’t, and replace the Totalitarian Beautz with a Constitutionalist, not a Leopold the “socialist lion” or the forgettable Danner, who also believes in government control of your property.

Do you really want more of the same Agenda 21 advocates who are sworn to abrogate your God-Given Rights? Please, on Memorial Day, try to remember, your rights are protected by the only constitution in the world written by its founders who understood that the rights of citizens of these United States are inherent and that a Bill of Rights was written to protect those rights from being violated by an over-zealous government agent.

Or is it those communists, socialists and totalitarians who have gone before they could complete their vile mission. Interestingly, the U. S. A. is one of only a handful of countries in the world that would provide them the opportunity to attempt a take over. Very few other countries would have allowed them the opportunity to die naturally.

I viewed this meeting on Cruz TV. The main reason for the ballooning cost was they completely rebuilt the community center--even though it wasn't necessary. It was approved with nary a bat of an eye. Reason? Well they were in so deep with other improvements, it wouldn't have "fit" with the rest of the upgrades. Talk about Pet Projects.
Mind you, I'm all for society taking care of its elders--but that is why my family has a "Granny Unit". The only way we can afford Mom's care. Ironic isn't it?

Wait 'till next year, when they have to raise money because tax revenues have dropped due to the recession and they already spent tax dollars on stuff like this.
Supervisors typically have little development knowledge and routinely get picked off - what the heck, it isn't their money.
This is the wrong area for government - it should be handled by charity or by relatives - government should only be handling police, judicial and defense.
The amount of roads that need to be repaired up in the mountains is unbelievable.

And those the incumbents recommend. And those obviously up to their eyeballs in other quasi-government businesses. To be specific that would be Danner and Leopold.

You need to become a non-profit. Or maybe "on a fixed income". Or have a friend in high places.

And in a few months we will hear about the tax increases we need to take care of the roads.

what happened to the $ from the last measure for road improvement? I haven't heard much--did the funds get diverted again?

My street was "patched" with black tar covering the cracks last week. Now the road is just as bad. It just has these bumpy black seams all over.

Oh, thats right! Stone and company are working on a special tax for roads because they are "borrowing" our dedicated road money for other things like pay raises and retirement packages. Stone is also working with Silicon Valley to determine our carbon footrint, and solve global warming. If not, at least there will be a lot more tax dollars coming from Santa Cruz County tax payers to use on pet projects.
