There are three of these trucks parked off a side street in Scotts Valley. Its a dead end street so I guess he figured no one would care.

"I AGREE" makes a great point about the painting and all.

"chris blanchard" - you are so right! It's wrong that you can't park in front of your house with a for sale sign in the window, but Jerry can park his POS's all over the county.

Personally, I think if someone has a business truck and parks in front of this house, that's fine. But leaving a truck in a neighborhood for weeks on end and not moving it until it gets tickets, that's a different story.

Is there going to be signage stating these new parking rules, and if so, who pays for that? I have a hard time believing Jerry Toste does "10 to 20 jobs per day" unless you consider moving those trucks a job. Some of them have had the same over-the-top mounds of junk in them for weeks. Is he waiting for a discount at the dump before he goes there?

i saw one of his trucks on soquel on the way to santa cruz medical clinic (near harbor high school) yesterday with 3 flat tires and filled to the brim with god knows what!
what an eye sore!
it wasn't even parked on a street....i wonder who owns the little chunk of land it sits on?
what a piece of work this guy is....tow it to his mommas house!
Bingo... I have to look at that POS every day I drive my kids to school. It's been there a lot longer than 3 days. It's been a week now.

I do like the idea of destroying all his cars. Let the gang bangers and vandals tag up his trucks, flatten his tires, and **** in his gas tanks... We'll watch him give up the business very quickly.

I was at the dump last month and asked how many Cheap Hauling trucks they get daily. I was hold they haven't been around for a long long time. Methinks Cheap Hauling is dumping elsewhere....for free.

the only job Jerry does 10-20 times a day is bring that beer bottle up to his mouth and back.

Jerry is screwing this county and bragging about it.

Another way to look at the whole deal is it's like Jerry is providing the area with a free dump service. Just take you junk down the street to a Cheap Hauling truck that Jerry provides. Enjoy the cheapness of Jerry's hauling away you stuff for you. It's a wonderful service day or night. It saves on gas, banging up your car, it's wonderful.

jerry is the ultimate small business story. He is smart and has built a nice business. Good Job, keep it up Jerry, I don't mind the trucks and I will always use his business if I need it.Every time I see one around town I laugh and wish him well. Great job Jerry. Ignore the hysterical right wing types. Besides, they are Yuppie freaks creating all the junk right!

Instead of more laws, I propose the following:

If you see a cheap hauling truck parked somewhere, toss your junk in! The problem will resolve itself quite nicely; a win-win!

You get your crap (eventually) hauled off for free, and they'll take the message and learn to stop parking there.

I recently asked them for a quote and they were anything but cheap.... A day's work and 5 dump-runs later I saved myself over $1000 by doing it myself.

I am no fan of the ugly Cheap Hauling trucks, although I have to admire the fact that he's pulled a fast one in getting all this free advertising due to the controversy.

Has anyone else noticed an increase to the 1-800-GOT-JUNK trucks parked in various places? I know I have seen them parked around in Capitola and other places. I know everyone is angry about Cheap Hauling due to ugly eyesores, but I hope that 1800-GOT-JUNK doesnt get away with the same tactic due to the fact that their trucks look better and a little more professional.

Again with the whining. I'm so glad this is the most important problem facing both the city & county.

If the County is going to take aim at unsightly hawling trucks, why not enforce the current laws. I don't think it is legal for boat owners to park on residential streets. Check out Sequoia Drive in the county--always at least three boats and sometimes more! Why make more regulations when you don't enforce the ones you have?

To the unincorporated areas they did move! And in the City, they moved their trucks to private parking lots viewable from the road. Someone should take a crowbar to Jerry's knees.

True. They are violating advertising laws. I worked for a Company that advertised on the street in one single location and got fined. Billboards are illegal in Santa Cruz. I would assume that law applies to those moving Billboard trucks you see in traffic in major cities. And essentially, that is what his trucks are.

CHEAP HAULING SHOULD CHANGE THERE NAME TO >>"NOT"SO CHEAP HAULING. IN APRIL I CALLED AND ASKED THEM TO HAUL AWAY TWO COUCHES AND AN ENTERTAINMENT CENTER. THE ENTERTAINMENT CENTER TOOK UP A SMALL AMOUNT OF SPACE BECAUSE IT WAS BROKEN DOWN TO WOODEN SLATS/ I WAS CHARGED $250.00/ I WAS IN A JAM...AND TRYING TO MOVE OUT OF ONE PLACE, INTO ANOTHER , MAY BE I'M OUT OF THE LOOP,BUT THAT JUST SEEMED TO BE A LOT OF MONEY... AND GUESS WHAT WAS PARKED ON MY NEW STREET ABOUT A HALF BLOCK UP THE ROAD, MY OLD COUCHES AND THERE TRUCK! THAT'S RIGHT...AND FUNNY WHEN I CALLED THEM THEY WERE UNABLE TO GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE OVER THE PHONE,SIAD "WE NEED TO SEE THE JOB BEFORE WE QUOTE A PRICE." TWO COUCHES AND A SMALL PILE OF ENTERTAINMENT CENTER WOOD...THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO QUOTE THAT OVER THE PHONE. BUT IF THEY HAD DONE THAT, MOST LIKELY I WOULD HAVE CALLED SOMEONE ELSE. I KNOW IF THE SIDE OF THERE TRUCK SAID "NOT SO CHEAP HAULING",I WOULDN'T HAVE FELT THEY HAD TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF MY SITUATION.

I heard this guy Jerry is a spoiled brat, his "daddy" bought all the trucks for him! He brags to his friends in public about how smart he is,how much money he makes(I don't think he makes that much)how he doesn't care what anybody thinks about his trucks parked all over town! When he parks on your street, fill up the truck at night with all your junk and then he'll have to pay the dump fees and thus he'll loose money!! I'm so glad I live in Capitola because the parking guys are after his trucks big time,3 days gets a ticket a few more and it's towed!! I love it, "see ya Jerry"

I say to all those in favor of allowing the trucks to be parked on the streets please give the city your addresses so he can park in front of your houses. And exactly when and how is he dumping stuff if it is sitting in trucks for days on end. It's an eyesore and why are his rights so much more important then the person's whose house/nieghborhood he parks in? Pamparius has a point what is the difference between his trucks parked in a location for days on end and a billboard?

"Once the city did it, we knew they'd start to park the trucks in the unincorporated areas," said Supervisor Neal Coonerty.... wow! this guy's real observant! these billboards have been parked around live oak for months!

10-20 jobs a day? He owns 40 or more trucks? That doesn't sound so successful to me. According to the math, more than half are immobilized at any given time.
I will NEVER do business with this guy because I find his practices offensive. You can't legislate common sense, but you can boycott. The way to get those trucks off the street is via his wallet.
