The sheriff must explain brothel visit

It is hard to believe that a year after San Mateo County Sheriff Greg Munks and Undersheriff Carlos Bolanos got swept up with a group of "Johns" during a police raid at an illegal Las Vegas brothel, the sheriff ...

First there is and was no investigation and if there was who would of conducted it....subordinates of the Sheriff and the Under Shreriff them self? A clear conflict of interest. This should of been conducted by the California vestigation of a former deputy Department of Justice or the FBI. Why hasn't it been done by the controlling agencies? There is more to just that case. Rumor has it the Sheriff and under sheriff have stonewalled decorating a former Sheriffs Deputy who prevented another Deputy from committing suicide while on duty in order to protect the Sheriffs Department from embarrassment.

Let me understand this....our Sheriff was in a brothel where prostitutes were also victims of white slavery which this was also a drug haven in a residential neighborhood. No one can ever tell me Sheriff or his side kick Bolanos couldn't figure out where they were and or the obvious signs of drug use. If they are that stupid they shouldn't be in law enforcement. I am not sure what is worse.....the fact that they were caught up in a brothel or the fact our law makers haven't done one thing to punish them. Either way the alleged lawmen and the law makers should be punished or recalled. What else are Munks and Bolanos liable to do with such low morals.

Steve Wagstaffe the highest ranking and most powerful San Mateo County Employee, He determines who gets charged and what charges are filed.
We now also see he has an ability to determine what is newsworthy.
In his e-mail, Wagstaffe made it clear he considered coverage of a sheriff detained at an illegal Vegas bordello to be a "non-story."

Sure a "non-story." Greg Munks aka Customer One and Carlos Bolanos Customer Two Human Trafficked Underaged Sex Slaves. FBI STING.

Another San Mateo County Employee non-story Carlos Alberto Ordonez.

Steve Wagstaffe knows a real story when he sees one. You will recall he starred in an America's Most Wanted Show. It has been reported that he personally contacted the show and pressed to have it aired.

Victor Wills was a failure to appear in drug court.....Thats all. It happens everyday in San Mateo County Courts.

Have you heard of Congresswoman Jackie Speier.

Stogner was the one doing all the sabre rattling, if he was so hot on it then, what happened, nothing. I have no problem with the way the sheriffs office is run. Don't start something unless you are willing to finish.

The recall is a promise not a threat, I'm not running for any office, there is no hurry for the recall, we are learning more and more about how San Mateo Leaders were involved and or support this conduct from our top two Law Enforcement Officials.

As a citizen I wrote to the Sheriff and wished him and his family well but I demanded his resignation for going to a house that had Underaged girls held against their will as Sex Slaves...Human trafficking.

As we are just now learning thanks to two local reporters Michael Manekin and Shaun Bishop, The DA's Office sent e-mails of condolences.

I ask him to resign Fox and Wagstaffe tell him to hang in there...Bad Press.

So lets let the investigative reporters do their work.

If Congresswoman Jackie Speier could get the transcripts for April 21, 2007 just the communication between the arresting/detaining officers and Munks /Bolanos. That would be helpful.

I personally believe that Sheriif Greg Munks and Carlos Bolanos are causing harm to San Mateo County every minute they stay in their positions.

Our Sheriff and Under Sheriff also used the county funds to pay for his visit while staying at Vega's most expensive hotel and told the supervisors it was a team bonding experience. What a crock of bovine fertology! One article said the Sheriff didn't even run in the race but he told Vegas Police he needed a massage because he ran in the race. Use Google Earth and look at the address where the alleged massage parlor was. It was in a residential neighborhood. Duh! The Sheriff and the Under Sheriff should explain their stories to a Judge, unemployment counselor, Parole Officer and their former spouses and children. It is a shame they have ruined their children's last names. I would not blame their children if they do change their names.

It was previously stated that the hotel he was staying at had an excellent spa, where he could have gotten a massage. If that's what he really wanted. No--he wanted a a"happy ending."

I am a former Deputy with SMCSO and I was aware of the aforementioned Deputy Suicide and the wash behind it. That Deputy is still employed. I will never understand why the brave deputy who pulled the gun from the other Deputies mouth isn't Sheriff let alone properly decorated. Politics. Sheriff Munks wasn't promotional material when he left the Sheriffs office originally. How did he make it as the SHERIFF?

Hello,

My name is Michael Manekin. I'm a reporter at the San Mateo Times, and I'm working on a story about the public's reaction to the Vegas scandal.

I want to know if county residents care about the incident--and if they do, what they think should be done. Recall the sheriff? An independent investigation? An ethics commission? A change to the county charter? Nothing at all?

If you're a resident of San Mateo County and have an opinion on this matter, I'd like to arrange an interview.

Please e-mail me at mmanekin@bayareanewsgroup.com.

Thank you,

Michael

The Sheriff and Under Sheriff should of been recalled a year ago. The scale of justice is weighed to the advantage of the Monks and Bolanos. I am sure someone out there could do a better job then those to have done. How about Gary Coleman who ran for Govenor? He couldn't do any worse.

As the five Captains responsible for managing the daily operations of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, we are writing to announce our continued support of Sheriff Greg Munks and Undersheriff Carlos Bolanos. Despite exhaustive investigative efforts by the media, there has been no new information reported since the original incident in Las Vegas. Neither the Sheriff, nor Undersheriff have been charged with a crime and an investigation by the county revealed no misuse of government funds or resources. Following the incident, the Sheriff offered his heartfelt apology to the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of our county. It is time that we accept that apology and move on.

During the past year, Sheriff Munks has worked tirelessly commanding the Sheriff’s Office and using his leadership and vision to improve public safety and enrich the quality of life for the citizens of San Mateo County. He has tackled the overcrowding that has plagued our jails for years, developing innovative short term solutions. The Sheriff is also leading the effort to embark on the construction of a new jail that would provide a long-term solution to the overcrowding and allow for an innovative paradigm shift in local corrections by developing a re-entry facility that can offer education, treatment and gender specific programs to break the cycle of incarceration and reduce crime and recidivism. The Sheriff is also led efforts to use proactive law enforcement strategies to fight against the growing gang and violent crime problems facing our county.

As Captains, we work with the Sheriff on a daily basis and we have developed tremendous respect for the Sheriff and confidence in his ability to manage the Sheriff’s Office. We know that he is a dedicated law enforcement officer and leader who cares deeply about our community. Sheriff Munks is respected not only by those who serve with him at the Sheriff’s Office but by many other public safety and community leaders.

The current politically motivated media coverage and public debate that surrounds a one-year old event serves as a dangerous distraction for those of us who are sworn to protect the safety of our community. As professionals, who have dedicated our lives to serving and protecting the citizens of San Mateo County, we urge that this counterproductive discussion end now so we might be allowed to focus all of our attention to the critically important business of protecting our community. The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Captains are proud to join with the “Organization of Sheriff’s Sergeants” and the “Deputy Sheriff’s Association” to support Sheriff Munks.

/s/ Captains:

Trisha Sanchez
