Hey, I'll remember that for the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. I'm tired of that being shoved down my throat!

We're about a week away from Brent Adams annual 4th of July US Flag burning as a demonstration of freedom of speech. Though this gay flag burning is obviously vandalism as it was not the property of the person who burned it...it will still be interesting to listen to the contrasting opinions between the rights to voice a constitutionally protected opinion and committing a hate crime based on desecrating the different flags.

What are you talking about? The flag was burned (the only mean-spirited crime) in San Francisco. The people in Santa Cruz are just exercising their right to free speech...is there a problem with that?

Celebrate some of that legendary diversity we're always hearing about...and go after the mean spirited San Franciscans who burned your precious flag.

I'll bite. While as a gay man, I would be personally offended by the free speech being exercised by someone burning their own giant pink triangle installation, or for practicality's sake, a rainbow flag, it is their right to offend me with their symbolic speech. Whether we like it or not, a right to not be offended by others, unless it truly disturbs the peace, simply does not exist, nor should it. The true test of our bid for equality is to be able to stand up for the rights of those who we disagree with, no matter how much we disagree or are offended by them...

Excellent post...I totally agree. No further comment required.

From a non-Christian conservative, here's to an equally safe and fun 4th of July and Gay pride week...*clink*

Well that's painfully obvious now. No one but people from out of state calls San Fancisco "Frisco"...and the residents are certainly not called "Friscanians" ...or is that more of your notorious sarcasm?

I'd put good money on a bet that a disgruntled tobacco smoker torched the homosexual sign. Every liberal Democrat honmosexual voted to increase the tax on smokers!

Apparently the secret agenda has finally been exposed: Homosexuality is actually an anti-tobacco plot.

Well said. However, we also need to make damn sure the right exists in the first place.
Simply claiming something as a "right" and screaming about it for decades doesn't legitimize it.
In the instance being discussed, engaging in a symbolic act, such as burning your own flag or your own giant pink triangle, as an exercise of free speech is well established, if not always guaranteed. If you want to discuss the existence or non-existence of any other rights, I'd be more than happy to...

Somewhere or other there is someone thinking the same about you too. That is the beauty of the "freedom of speech".And my question to you would be, if you are indifference in what I post why follow me around in the first place? Heh?

No problem, but as you can see I have not done likewise..Because? I am not like you. Period.
