A 16-year-old accused of stabbing a man to death Saturday morning in Redwood City had walked away from a San Mateo County juvenile probation camp in La Honda about a month ago, a top county official confirmed today.

Chief of Probation Loren Buddress said Adrian Sedano, a resident of unincorporated Redwood City, was reported missing from Camp Glenwood, a medium-security youth detention center near La Honda on July 15.

It is run by the San Mateo County Probation Department.

Sedano and Christian Lopez, also 16, were arrested Saturday in the stabbing death of Ramon Buenrostro, 23, of unincorporated Redwood City.

They are now being held without bail in the San Mateo County Youth Services Center in unincorporated San Mateo County.

Police said Buenrostro was stabbed shortly before 4 a.m. Saturday on the 500 block of Geneva Avenue.

Investigators believe the incident stemmed from a 1 a.m. fight among four girls at a 7-Eleven and said the two boys stepped in three hours later.

Buddress said wards at Camp Glenwood typically are juveniles with minor offenses - not violent criminals - placed there by juvenile court judges.

"I would be very surprised if there was anything like that in (Sedano's) history, because the judges are very, very careful about that sort of thing," Buddress said.

Buddress said walkaways from the camps, which have no perimeter fence, happen about once a month.

But in his eight years at the helm, he said no juveniles have walked away and been accused of committing such a violent crime.

"To have that kind of an awful situation is a real anomaly," he said.

Last month's escape from Camp Glenwood followed two 17-year-old criminals walking away from the facility in May.

Last February, 17-year-old murder suspect Josue Raul Orozco escaped from the Youth Services Center. He is still on the lam.

E-mail Shaun Bishop at [email protected]

Ramon was my cussin and i loved him.I am so happy the guys who murdered him were caught. I hope they never see daylight again! They made a gap in our family and will spend the consequences for the rest of ther criminal lives! What they did was stupid and heartful towards our family.
