Mountain View police Sunday arrested the man suspected of randomly shooting to death his friend and fellow Sureno gang-member, 24-year-old Rene Escalante, earlier the same day in Whisman Park. <br/> <br/>Using anonymous tips, officers located and apprehended 25-year-old Marco Jauregui, a parolee who was staying at a relative's house in Milpitas. <br/> <br/>Jauregui was booked into San Jose Main Jail on charges of murder and violating parole. <br/> <br/>He should appear for arraignment Wednesday, Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney David Tomkins said. <br/> <br/>According to witnesses who were walking with the two men at approximately 12:35 a.m. Sunday through the park on the 300 block of Easy Street, Jauregui drew a handgun for no apparent reason and shot Escalante several times. <br/> <br/>Police have recovered the weapon, police spokeswoman Liz Wylie said. <br/>"From what witnesses said, it was literally out of the blue," Wylie said. <br/> <br/>"He pulled a gun and just started shooting. This is a very odd case. We don't know if it was gang-related or personal." <br/> <br/>Police responded to calls from neighbors, who reported several gunshots and screams. <br/> <br/>When officers arrived, Escalante was still breathing but suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. <br/> <br/>He was transported to Stanford University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. <br/> <br/>Jauregui was last seen fleeing on foot by witnesses. <br/> <br/>Both men are members of Mountain View's Surenos, who are part of a larger statewide gang that usually clashes with the rival Nortenos gang, police said. <br/> <br/>Wylie added that the motive is even more mysterious because the two men were long-time friends who grew up in Mountain View and currently resided in Santa Clara. <br/> <br/>"We knew who we were looking for from the very beginning," Wylie said. <br/> <br/>E-mail Banks Albach at [email protected] <br/> <br/>

I grew up with both of these little boys, it's a shame as I was getting out they were getting in. Only GOD should be the one to judge, NOT all you stupid a-s samaritins. One day you'll understand where we come from. We're not all born with silver spoons in our mouth, or have mom and dad handing us everything we need. So until you live like most of us in the common world DON'T JUDGE US YOU DON;T KNOW S--T

Right from wrong is all you need to know-not rocket science. Some of the poorest people on the planet are happy, they don't kill one another-these guys were "BAD" pure and simple-it is not easy coming from the other side of the track, but if you can walk, you can get to the other side, I did.

That's just it. You do live in an uncommon world. Most people do not commit crimes or belong to a street gang. If most people do not understand your plight. Then that's why. I did not grow up with a silver spoon in my mouth. My parents were poor immigrants, but they, my family, and friends placed a value on respecting other people, hard work, and education. None of these things require wealth. Your friend chose his path. A path that people like you make easier for him because you make excuses and give them the easy way out. If you make the wrong choices, then live with the consequences. Don't blame everyone else for your problems.

I totally agree with Sims above. Don't tell us about God judging --one3--, the time IS coming where the regular citizens WILL BE THE ONES JUDGING!!

We look at what others do and judge. What we need to do is pray for them. They themselves need to bow to their knees and ask God for forgivness and God will forgive them. Quit judging. Prayer is the key. The sad thing is that very few poeple now days do that.

Pitiful response, Bay-Destrian. Your distorted sense of regionalism couldn't be less helpful. Self-centered points-of-view such as your own do NOTHING to fix the ocean of problems apparent in this shooting. Open your eyes, snob, and get ready to get your hands dirty, because putting an end to this type of violence,(or, more realistically, curbing it) is going to take people like you realizing that you can't just shoo the streets away. You live in the same city as these kids, deal with it, and start communicating.

I believe he WAS communicating. Rather matter of factly if I do say so myself. Your reply was full of a lot of fluff.

Good riddance to both of them. Now if we could just have the Marines wipe out the rest of their gang of morons with machine guns. We take out the Taliban, why not these turds?

Yeah, right. This Liberal sick minded area would shoot at the Marines and "boo" them like they do at these local airports when they return home from fighting for OUR FREEDOM. I say civilians should be allowed to hunt idiots.
