Building proposed for Walgreens site

A modern, mixed-use building made largely of glass will replace the Palo Alto Walgreens gutted by a fire last year, if a group of San Francisco architects gets its way.

Without more information it's hard to comment on the plan for the Walgreens. Is this a green building? It's a travesty to replace history with a glass building. A design closer to the downtown style would be more appealing.
My hometown of Richmond, IN was destroyed by an explosion in 1968. The developers snowed the city with their grand plans and now it's a ghost town. It's hard to believe that PA could fall for this.
Another Starbucks? COME ON.

This proposed building is ugly. On top of that, replacing a buidling that was a cornerstone of history and good taste with this ice cube of a building is a disaster of "progress." Perhaps we should leave the open pit there instead.

Great, another glass box.

Why the hell do we even have zoning regulations if the city bends over every time developers want to do something like this?

"I love a little San Francisco urbanity filtering its way here," Board Member Heather Trossman said.

OK, I'll pee on the sidewalk and harass people then pass out in the doorway.

Sounds like Trossman is in the minority liking the building. Why didn't they save that beautiful facade and rebuild the insides!
Unique? You mean unique like the Cheesecake Factory?(gag)
Not clear who the owners and developers are. Only the architect is quoted in the story.

Yet again, elected officials; representatives of the community, doing whatever the hell they want, without giving an ear TO the community. How do we remind them who is working for who?

The proposed new Walgreen's is a travesty. It is well known that Palo Alto's Architectural Review Board is the far side of wacky. What are the qualifications of these people? The ARB approved the Opportunity Center monstrosity and the blight on the landscape condos where Rickey's once stood, that 'thing on the Circle at Alma which doesn't match anything and residential disasters all over town. Now another one downtown to further mar what could have been a lovely, historic place. I rarely go there rather than be hassled by the 'unhoused residents'. I go to Los Altos and very sorry I didn't buy a home there years ago.
