Head Baseball Coach Craig Gianinno strives to help his players achieve a sense of balance between academics, athletics and their relationships with coaches, friends and family members. He has lined up a series of speakers this fall to show how the schools mission (“Men of Faith, Wisdom and Service”) pertains to being an athlete.
The Serra community will welcome USF Assistant Baseball Coach Jonathan Norfolk on Monday and former San Francisco Giants Pitcher Bill Laskey on Tuesday.

It’s laughable if you think that coach gets paid six figures, it’s also funny that you would jump off the same bandwagon that has led to 3 Banners in YOUR gym, the end of the St. Francis Streak and countless other memorable football moments at Serra

Wow! This saga continues to grow each day. There is a fine line to cross when a supposed friend and teammate comes into a job through the back door if this is really true. Doesn't Serra do a backround check when they hire new employees/coaches ? Do they ask previous employers why a prospective coach was asked to leave from a recent coaching position ? I know that Serra had a problem with a Soccer coach a few years back that was arrested and convicted of some serious crimes. You would think that they would check this stuff but I'm not sure what their protocol is. The principal should contact the prospective coaches prior schools principal and ask the important questions before making this important decision. On another note, the Varsity Football season has been a big disappointment. I have followed the games over the internet and the offensive game plans are like a sewer pipe. They stink, and the inconsistancy of a game plan( it changes week to week ) have really held this team back. I admire Coach Walsh for the fine job that he has done in the past nine years at Serra, but this year he should have run the offense himself and used all of that talent that he has on that side of the ball. How can you fail to get first downs consistantly with the following players ( Mc Alindon, Smith, Clark, Wilson, Vinal, Vincent, March, Bravo, etc ). It's a shame. With that personnel, the Padres should be scoring 35 points a game. However, his defense has been stellar and should be applauded. I wish the Padres much luck in the CCS. I hope they go all the way.

Wow, three banners in nine years OMG. The baseball team hung seven banners in Kmak's nine years as an assistant, why would you not want to continue that tradition. Why, because Serra High school is dead, the Lars Lund Academy for Non-Athletic Boys is what resides in San Mateo these days.

Hey at least the football team won 5 games. That's more than the varsity baseball team will win this year.

Check your facts....Walsh is making 100,000 this year. Lars had to match an offer from a San Diego School in order for him to stay on board and not leave. A position in the development office was given to him to justify. Do be a hater, just open your eyes.....and Lars should find out why McDonald was FIRED at Notre Dame. Maybe his mouth finally got him in trouble.....

Brother Hater: Its okay to still be upset as am I but truthfully before you hit send - you should investigate and then reinvestigate your fact.

Walsh does not make 100K. A school down south DID approach. Mrs Walsh is happy and engrossed in her wonderful job across the bay - both young Walsh boys run around the Serra campus as did Jesse jr and Jimmy when the other Giant of a coach was there, Coach Freitas.

The development office job came full circle after Russ was screwed and fired by Lars as was Mike Peterson. Russ's job is now being done by roughly 3 individuals - THAT's how much Russ did each day and how hard it is to (still) replace him.

Go back to the beginning. The two-some and sometimes threesome of Lund-Thornton and sometimes Scollin had/have a problem with so much stuff that they threw up in their mouths and did not and still dont know how to fix it.

The highering committe of four still tell different stories to this day, some doing damage control and some still lying threw their teeth. Cocconi - Ortiz - Ayoob and Donahue. This could have been a slam dunk for Kmak but there is pressure to do what your superiors want and then there is PRESSURE! It does suck that somebody on that three man - one women team is lying through their teeth. Worst of all. The LarThornScollin combine did not apply a worse can scenario of what if?
Did those three NOT know that former coaches and new coaches and teachers would have to all coexist once this debacle was/is/never will be over??
It is also NOT about Coach Gianinno. Is it Coach Gianinno's fault that he WAS ALLOWED to submit an application 3 weeks after the closing date?
Is it Ray McDonalds fault that he has been hired?(I understand the loyalty/solidarity factor)

You say do be a hater BUT YOU ARE hating on the wrong Pirate Radio Ship. Rethink where your venom should be applied. Like another poster has posted. Schools up and down the Peninsula are licking their chops at the in-fighting. Student athletes of Petes-Joes-Chris' and Coach M - are going to lay it all out on the line in the WCAL for Padre-Brotherhood. Someone said they might not win 5 games. That is not only a stupid statement but reprehensible. Senior Matt Nichol will approach Logan Scott's win loss record easily. The returners are solid and they not only need our support they want it that way.

Back to Patrick Walsh. Best thing to ever happen to Serra. McKenzie could have been replaced by another retread up and down the Peninsula or even a retread within Padre Kingdom. Walsh's pedigree is superb. His next level camps provide the extra $$ that he could have gathered down south. His roots are here and they are stronger than yours (MR HATER). He is soulful, diligent and resilent, something YOU don't seem to be.

Again for the how-mani-eth-time. Readjust your hatred to the proper people.

SBCP,
Ok, I'll give them 7 games instead of 5. They have a few patsies, but they will not beat Foothill, San Ramon, DLS, Logan, Casa Grande, Monte Vista, St. Mary's, Valley Christian, Bellarmine, Mitty and will get crushed/embarrassed by St. Francis twice.

I'll give them SI, Riordon, SHC, and Burlingame. There's your 7 games.

Dear "FB Fan" -

It doesn't really matter what you and I think or bet on. The Serra fiasco was nurtured by one man + one other man + one women.

Having said that. Serra not only surprises the WCAL but there overall 2010 season record is way over .500. Mitty who dominates with pitching and St Franny with overall depth and Bellarmine too - none of those three "like" to come and play at Frisella Field.

The North teams...they are like playing public school teams so that is a slam dunk altho Coach Cole always has Cathedral playing the Pads tough. Isola's clubs should join the AAA league in the city and SI has a new skipper.

Padres win more than 7 for sure. Don't how many more they have to win to get "you" back in the fold, but again, and again and again - its about the student-athletes - not the old/new regime.

Call Serra and talk with Lars if you want answers...unless he is surrounded by Padre rental security as he fears for his mental safety.

Dog, get a clue and post comments that actually have value and make sense. Pete Cocconi is a good man, it would be interesting to hear what he has to say rather than those under the control of the two evil men.
