What kind of race baited BS title is that??? Ignorant people divide our city instead of working hard on solutions. They profit from race politics instead of trying to find our common ground. People, the is issue: EPA NEEDS A GROCERY STORE!! Period, end of discussion. City Council is smart enough to see that. Now how do we get one? Well either outside merchants apply to open one, existing merchants expand and apply, residents of EPA can open one or the wiser and more uniting leadership of this community can help start a co-op like Mandela Market in Oakland or the People's Grocery in Berkeley. But that would actually take some work and less complaining. REALITY CHECK: EPA is over 70% Latino. Reality is really forgotten in this discussion. Mi Pueblo does target Latino’s as its business model. And the target demographic would be a Latino majority community. Hence, EPA is the perfect demographic from Mi Pueblo’s perspective and for the MAJORITY of EPA residents. This is an economic reality. That means it is driven by a good business model. So how can so many people fault the business proness of some immigrants who thrived and contributed to this country? Don’t hate the players...work hard and become one!! People are asking all the wrong questions which is creating a unnecessary racial tension. The question is not how many blacks does Mi Pueblo hire, the question is how many qualified bilingual African Americans applied. My son can’t speak Spanish and would not be hired by Mi Pueblo and he’s Latino. So the issue is language and you are all welcome to learn it. That is why the Palo Alto School District teaches Chinese because they see the business realities of the future. Let’s remember some jobs do require a skill set: selling products to a predominately Spanish speaking community with collectively lots of dollars to spend requires workers that speak Spanish.(DID I SAY LOTS OF DOLLARS TO SPEND? Latinos are the largest upwardly mobile group in this state behind Asians - surpassing whites in spending ability). THIS IS ECONOMICS PEOPLE. The other question is: How many black businessmen applied to open a grocery store? You can’t play the economic game if you don’t take the first steps to entrepreneurship. Why are civil rights only for and by black folks? Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta where in the trenches fighting for civil rights. Let me give you a very brief ethno-demographic breakdown. Once upon a time there were happy brown people here. They rose with the sun, hunted the buffalo and multiplied in bliss. One fair day, upon the horizon a great mast appeared. A monstrosity of steel and polished mahogany. These vessels carried cold cruel men with hearts of steel with a thirst for blood and gold. They brought death and destruction upon the earth. They stole the land, shot the native americans and brought africans in bondage to work the stolen land. There was great turmoil and misery for many centuries. From the rape of the native american woman and the african slave women the latino race was born. From this bondage and pillage the mexican race was born. The concept of Vasconsuelos of La Raza Cozmica. So you see Mr. Fisher, Latinos are Indian, spanish and black. Some are more black like Panamanians, Cubans, Dominicans or People from Belize. Other are more indian like southern mexico, guatemala or peru. And some are predominately white like Argentina or chile. So you see Mexicans are a conglomeration of different races. Some of us are more Indian, some more Spanish and some more black. I happen to be of the more indian type called Maya and Mexica (pronounced Me-shi-ka). Others identify as Spanish (in the Mexican community we refer to them as white mexicans, which are very different than indian mexicans. Much like in the U.S. white americans are kind of different from black americans.) See how that works. This is ethnic studies 101. Taught in most universities in california and found in books too. Stanford has an admirable black studies program but SFSU is the bomb. No identity crisis here. Do you know what nation in Africa you descend from?
