I find myself defending cops on there more often than not, but it truly frightens me that that these idiots are given badges and guns and the immense power that comes with that.

Ever been to Deltona, dummy? There aren't corners with drug dealers. We are a rural community with 80,00 people.
I don't trust cops, but this guy was a hero. If some kid had walked by this dangerous animal and been killed, we would have a tragedy.
No doubt police in our country are out of control and the war on drugs is a sham, but this guy deserves our praise. Thank you, Deputy.

Um, I suggest you go figure out what a **** stick is before getting overly indignant about the trapper using one.

That is a relatively safe, relatively humane way to dispatch an injured animal. And generally speaking it's much more accurate.

never ceases to amaze me the people that respond without having any knowledge of a subject, we have used **** sticks for years to quickly take gators from our farm.

I guess the gator "failed to comply with orders" and was "high on PCP and cocaine".

Isnt that the standard story when a suspect is shot and killed by the police? Im sure they tasered the bejesus out of him as well.

For your informati, a **** Stick ois commonly used to send gators to their happy hunting ground, so I don't understand what your problem is with the trappper killing this gator!!

What was this cop thinking? Jumping on the back of an alligator and trying to ride it like a cowboy? The cop should have called in the professional in the first place. It really amazes me the people who get badges and guns.

That officer had some balls. He deserves an award
The award this deputy "hero" deserves is the Darwin Award.

I have been in law enforcement over fifteen years and generally do not like to see all of the cop bashing that takes place on these blogs, but in this case it is probably well deserved. What did this deputy think he was going to do with a wild incredibly strong animal even if he did get its mouth shut?!? That is why Florida has wildlife officers and trappers that are specially trained to handle these types of situations. You think the officer has some "balls" but he can consider himself very fortunate to have kept them, his head and his life. Maybe next time he will leave a similar situation like this to those who are specially trained to handle them. Street LEO's are not.

I agree that the depty should have waited for a trapper to handle the gater however, we do not know all of the circumstances here. You would think that another law enforcement office would know that. They may have been told that there was no trapper available for a lengthly time. There may have been fear that this animal was a danger to others and witing was not a good option. He may have extensive experience handling alligators.

Either way, I am sure he was doing what he thought to be the right thing to do for the people of his county. I am sure he thought the situation would go as planned. Every situation that goes bad has saturday morning quarterbacks or "The Brass" thinking you should have done things another way.

Deputy, we are glad you were not further injured and we hope you heal well and fast. Thank you for your service to your community.

Is this officer going to be charged with animal abuse??? or just plain stupidity??? IF a regular citizen had tried to do the same, he'd be arrested!!!
