The Supreme Court ruling will not affect Florida beyond upholding the fundamental right under the Second Amendment to own guns.

"The permits are good for seven years and valid in 32 other states."..........This law will be changing with this ruling!! If one state sees that you are eligible for conceled weapons permit, why would another state refuse you this right. Its reciprocity laws that make the other 18 states laws unconstitutional along with the 2nd Ammendment....Right To Bare Arms will not be infringed!!!!!!!!

Try they are only valid for "5" years! Not 7 at a cost of the a safety gun course, about $60.00, fingerprinting, about $15-$25 dollars, and of course the $117.00 dollar licensing fee. Great investment for the money. It's worth every penny just for the peace of mind knowing you are not totally unprepared and unprotected should in the event something does unfold unexpectedly in front of you. It will be most interesting to read all the comments I'm sure will be posted saying how many people have been killed by guns, how it's going to be like the OK Corral, Blah, blah, blah. get over it! At least there are at least 500,000 people through out our populace that are at least willing to stand up and fight back against this epidemic of violent crime that is sweeping our communities. Only wish there was 3 or 4 times that amount! As for you limp-wristed, spineless liberals that want to take our gun rights away, go hug your tree!

Reciprocity applies to a 'concealed' weapon and that is not found in the 2A.

Just an update on another subject. Crist has still not explained about the memo from his office about recognizing the survivors of Pearl Harbor on Law Enforcement Day.
Good work Gov!

Actually, Florida does have a sweeping restriction on "bearing arms." Open carry of firearms is illegal. Concealed carry is illegal unless you buy a license, the qualifications for which are above and beyond just being a law-abiding citizen.

As a remedy, I believe we ought to file suit to legalize open carry.

To bring logic to the table regarding lives lost due to guns, we should, according to the gun hating wienies ban all motor vehicles which account for far more deaths and injuries every year than guns. We should also ban spear guns, knives, baseball bats, axes, hatchets, machetes, large rocks, bricks, limbs, bows and arrows, box cutters, etc. ask all would provide a lethal weapon to a person intent upon murder. Let's also ban alcohol which usually takes away all inhibitions in the potential killer and sets him or her up for the crime. Oh that will happen alright with all the alcoholics we have in Congress.
Thank You Supreme Court

In response to our local crime problem; it is always heartwarming when I hear when a law abiding citizen using a gun to protect himself and family sends a member of the Central Florida criminal element, to the land of the perpetual dirt nap.

I am for all of that and then some. The only people that should have guns are law enforcement, elected officials and anyone else that we let run our lives.

My concealed-carry permit expires five years after issue, not seven as the article contends. Is this an error, or have the term changed since mine was issued last year?

Show me statistics of the rash of gun-grabs on citizens by criminals in the many states where open carry is legal.

The real "problem" with open carry is that it is socially unacceptable. It "scares the white folks." Which really just goes to show how low we have sunk as a civilization.

The decision stated that we have the right to keep and bare arms
and
Upheld restrictions on Concealed weapons
and
upheld weapon bans in Sensitive areas like Schools and government buildings
and
They can be used for lawful purposes like self defense of your life and home

Does that not imply that we can carry a handgun for self defense as long as it is not concealed and you are not in a sensitive building?

I think it opens the door to open carry

*State law prohibits the registration of legally owned handguns, rifles and shotguns.
This can't be right...if you purchase a firearm in this state, that weapon is not registered to you in any way? There is no record or ownership? No database somewhere with a serial number and your name?

While I am all for the essence of the Supreme Court ruling, it is still screwed-up and inadequate because it apparently was not defintive enough as to detail etc., so the courts and the local constabulary can still keep jerking us around but if you object then it takes thousands of dollars and worthless attorneys to defend yourself and fight them for your rights to bear. Plus, it is absolutely ridiculos that we should have to pay such as high registration and licensing fee just to spport the fatcat bureaucrats in Tallahassee. If a drivers license costs $24.00 why does a gun license cost $135.00+?

Such passion about guns. I wish gun owners were as passionate about keeping them out of the hands of children.

HG,

Stop making broad assumptions. I am as liberal as they come, a proud tree hugger, and a multiple gun owner.

Spineless? don't kid yourself. Attempt physical harm on me or my family and you will soon find yourself full of lead. Try to forcibly get into my house, and you are likely to come out in a bag.

Things are never black and white, left or right. Quit labeling people, and you'll find a lot more in common with them.
