Full story: Oklahoma Impact Team

No they are too stupid to realize that ODOT can't take care of the infrastructure we have now let alone expand it. They complain about roads and then complain about paying to drive on roads that are better maintained. As I said earlier, I'm greatful for the option and I choose to take the turnpike. Stay off if you don't want to pay and then you won't pay. It's one of the fairest methods of taxing I have ever seen.

Remember how I-44 was supposed to be free after being paided off. Well that time came and gone, and nobody cared that they kept charging us. They say they cant afford to make them free. But they can spend millions on building new toll booths. So just remember any time they say something is going to be free after being paid off its a lie.

I have always felt that it was stupid to have to pay to travel oklahoma roads. Look at the road conditions in Oklahoma and then look at the roads in Texas........ Why does it make sense to build them if they are always working on them? Why should I have to pay $4.00 to go to OKC? Then we have to take the Kilpatrick which is a total of $3.00 so it cost me $7.00 on way to make my monthly trips to OKC. That's Oklahoma lawmakers for you. Someone needs to stop letting the Turnpike Authority take advantage of Oklahomans and give them back their freedom to travel!!!

The problem in Oklahoma is both greedy legislators and SERIOUSLY greedy tribes...

Let me start by saying I am in NO way racist. I happen to be Apache Indian myself. I am thoroughly ashamed to be a native american living in this state, however, due to all the corruption and lies created by tribal leaders.

For example:
Casinos - ALL casinos in this state are owned by tribes. Creek, Cherokee, Indian Nation, Ft Sill Apache, etc... the list goes on and on. But where do the profits from each casino go? Not to the communities they were granted establishment in. Not to the schools their children attend in those communities...

You want to change the state's financial structure? Revoke the right for any tribal control over funding and revert it to FEDERAL control. Tribes in this state have WAY too much power over everything. You see it in the schools, the police departments, EVERYWHERE! They are practically untouchable by the government because they drop everything and cry "DISCRIMINATION!"
Sorry, but I am absolutely ASHAMED to be native american if that's what they are supposed to do.
I believe you get out of life exactly what you put into it. If you haven't worked for the dollar, you don't GET the dollar! For decades native americans have been whining about having suffered through the Trail of Tears, just as blacks whine about the Civil Rights junk. If you don't like the hand life has dealt you, then get off your lazy but and change it! You have no one to blame for YOUR misfortune but YOU.
Take control of the casinos away from tribes, and there's a TON of funds to better the schools.
Take control of the turnpikes away from the OTA and the various bondsmen, and there'll be even more funds for the state for other things needed.
Why in the heck would we need 20-something more turnpikes??? We have more than enough highways already. The cost of living is so high because of all the people living off the government already, that more toll roads will make it impossible for anyone to even afford to drive to work!

Summary: State finances will only be corrected if the federal government takes back the toll roads and forces tribes to start paying taxes on their lands and businesses!

Didn't you know - they raised the tolls again. HE Bailey is $1.50 and $1.75, and Turner is up to $4.75 now! I drive to Tulsa once every couple of months to see one of my kids, and the tolls this last time almost took an entire roll of quarters!

If this is what it's gonna come down to, constantly raising tolls and taxing people out the bum for roads that are never finished, then I'll just move to Texas!

I would like to know exactly how much money has been made off us toll payers since the turner was opened to the present Im sure they've made enough money to pay for the turner 10 times over. Hello people thats why we pay taxes to pay for things like road maintainence.

That's all we need is 25 more turnpikes, then no one will want to come to Oklahoma. I know people now that won't come to Tulsa because of all the toll roads. This is ridiculous!!!! How can we the people stop this???? Anyone know???

Bonds, you either buy them or you don't. Turnpikes you either drive them or you don't. There is nothing unethical about either, and if people didn't make money on bonds they wouldn't buy them. Your Public Schools, BOK Center, and just about everything is built on bonds. Ask who profits on those. You people are so ignorant and are only angry because something isn't handed out to you while someone else gets to profit for taking a risk.

Just wondering if the State of Oklahoma does not own the roads, wouldn't they be considered private property. Kind of like store parking lots?
It is private property just like a parking lot. However, it invites the public use.

And BTW, to another comment... OHP is contracted and paid by the OTA. OTA pays for thier equipment too...

It just keeps getting better..

We can all sit around and **** about turnpikes and believe me, it's one of my favorite things to do,,,,the real question is "how can we get rid of them"....I think if we had a man (or woman)in goverment with large enough testicles, I would vote for them no matter what thier opinions on other issues....turnpikes suck and thats all there is to say about that!

I think only the Governor has the authority to abolish the turnpike system. Any it looks like either of the current candidates (Fallin and Askins) don't have any plans to get rid of it anytime soon.
