After the Bell shooting, any cop in NYC who does more then the BARE minimum should be sent to Lefrak for a psych exam. Do nothing and let them kill each other. The "good citizens" don't stand behind the cops when they shoot someone. Do your 8:35 and go home.
Why would anyone go to Lefrak for a psych exam?

"Soviet Union American Style"

The NYPD is totally out of control, saturated with personal that doesn't live in the 5 boros and who also 'look down' at residents of NYC.

It's time a News Publication calls it out like it is.

Great work NYPD!!!!! I didn't know it was legal to do and I, as a law abiding citizen, have NO problem with it. If you have a problem with it...MOVE OUT.
Of those stopped how many weapons have the NYPD removed from the streets? I bet most came from minorities.

The cops are not randomly frisking folks on the street. These stops come from recent crimes in the area in which the detainee matches the description of the perp. The stops also come from folks that are behaving suspisciously in high-crime areas. These happen mostly in minority neighborhoods - where most of the minority vermin do their crime. This is no "police state". This is good police work brought on by the people responsible for the vast majority of New York's crime.
Very well said.
Ever notice how it's rarely ever the people that live in these high crime areas who complain about these stop and frisk type policies? It's always some far-removed liberal with an idealistic utopian agenda who thinks they know what's best for the residents of a crime torn neighborhood. These are the same liberals that would NEVER step foot into any of these same neighborhoods unless they had 20 news cameras around them.
Stay out of our neighborhoods. We want the police here and like when they lock up the drug pushers, the hookers and the robbers.

Old Wheat, BULL... I have been on the corner of 42nd St and Broadway and WATCHED the stop and frisk in action. No rhyme or reason, just stopping folks and asking questions then frisk and search...
So don't just PARROT or DEFEND unless you KNOW for a FACT.
They DO random stops, pedestrians, vehicles and the lot...
Problems are... if you don't go along with it, then you'll be detained, maybe even arrested.
Then the Judge gives a WIDE benefit of DOUBT to the Officers... You RIGHTS take a back seat... Most times, charges, if any get dismissed, so the biggest headaches are YOURS and yours only. The process nets some unsuspecting idiots who happen to have something in their possession which will get them in trouble with the law... relating to the artificially inflation of crime statistics...
Just like the Republican National Convention Tactics used here in NY City... Oh, I guess that was ok too? Walking down a city street and getting caught up in construction netting and hauled off to a detention center awaiting a judge, multiple court dates, lawyers,$$$, and time off from work to CLEAR you name... All charges, with the exception of one or two cases were dismissed against THOUSANDS...
POLICE STATE! You bet ya'...
Stop & frisk has been an effective police tactic for decades, and will continue to be in the future. It's no coincidence that most people that are stop and frisked are arrested afterwards. Its because they're doing something illegal in the first place. What would you like the cops to do? Ignore the guy with the bulge in his waistband? And what happens when that guy uses that gun to shoot your wife or your child? I bet you'd be the first to complain that the cops weren't doing enough. Stop & frisk's are effective and therefore will continue to be used.

Our society has OK'd roadblocks in the name of stopping DWI, we've allowed police on the water to do random stops and safety checks, we're all closely scrutinized in airports... and each of these practices is 'justified' by some perception of a problem.
I am not comfortable with the undermining of my constitutional rights either and I'd sure like to know at what level of safety these checks will be rescinded... but there is a violence problem in many neighborhoods. I think they would welcome the police initiatives to stop the violence! All you have to do is read the paper every day, and you'd know the neighborhoods. If you live in one of these areas, expect to be stopped and frisked. When the violence level goes down, then complain about unnecessary stops, or about profiling.
Everybody is impacted by the tightening up of security. Everybody has had to 'give a little' on the strict interpretation of their rights. Let's make the country and world safer again so we can go back to less monitoring. With all of the problems though, and all of the cameras and monitoring devices, I suspect that those days are gone forever.

Yawn. Last time I checked, Michael Vick's pitbulls didn't tell each other to go grab their gat and try to run Vick down with their car. Your the racist here. Go take you race baiting somewhere else.

Ok, simple solution to that, let's raise the starting salary so we can afford to live within NYC.

If the NYPD use the same biased profiling tactics in ALL neighborhoods instead of low income ones, the stereotype "only blacks/latinos commit the crimes" in NYC would evaporate. I'm tired of posters WHO DO NOT LIVE HERE, ONLY LISTEN TO RACIST TALK SHOW HOSTS LIKE RUSH (OXYCONTIN POPPER) LIMBAUGH, SEAN HANNITY, ETC. spew this ****. The cops are told not to terrorize your communities like in Harlem, Bed-Stuy, Jamaica, south Bronx, etc. FINALLY, THE PEOPLE IN POOR COMMUNITIES WANT THE COPS DO FIGHT CRIME AND NOT ASSUME EVERYONE IS A CRIMINAL, TO BE ABLE TO DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN A GUN AND A HAIR BRUSH, SET OF KEYS, CANDY BARS, WALLETS, ETC. IF THEY CAN'T, THEN DAMMIT ASSIGN THEM TO WHITE AREAS ONLY OR FIRE THEM.

waytogo... yeah right, in a city where you cannot LEGALLY protect yourself, you have NO OPTION but to carry some form of SELF DEFENSE albeit ILLEGALLY...

And if you aren't SURE of the PENAL CODE for the state of NY which is taken to extremes in NY CITY then don't quote or respond to my post.

Kevon, ok, so then the Police are the only answer to living in these high crime areas. I lived (no more) but still work and play in the so called high crime areas and am entitled to all the same rights and protections you talk about. Living there gives you NO higher standard nor say on dismissing my CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS in those areas or even on your block.

Southbound... This isn't Kansas... And once gone, it might never come back. So to give a little just to make the world safe is just an excuse to attack and erode freedoms already PAID for.

We have cheapened our Country and what it is founded on by aligning with the hysteria that the Military and Police Agency will PROMOTE to achieve their agenda, even if it seems as benign as CRIME STATISTICS, or as scary as a TERRORISTIC THREAT.

We have weakened it by taking it out at the knees. Constitutional changes have been bypassed by Executive Orders... Nicely done as a matter of fact, to achieve one goal, to supersede those RIGHTS without a fight, review, debate, etc.

Soon, when born we will have DNA samples taken from the child and RFID tags embedded in our person, for our benefit of course... But don't worry cause Corporate America and the Government are just here to help.(don't take me too seriously but these possibilities do exist)

All these things they want to achieve could be accomplished WITHOUT the need for infringement upon our rights, it just cost more and is a lot harder to do...

The 9 scariest words ever spoken...

I'm from the Government and I'm here to help!

Who said it?

please read terry vs. ohio. they needs reasonable suspicion, not probable cause. plus, many of the stop/frisks are consensual....you don't really know your rights like you claim.

Ok Idiot from Seattle, make sure you stay there.

First off I wasn't taking about GUNS, although that is the most inflationary buzz word you can use.

The gun issue will be decided by the Supreme Court on the associated D.C. ban. NY is holding it's breath on that one...

But back to our program...

You can not even carry MACE or PEPPER spray in NY City, it's illegal. This occurred without a demonstration by the city that these devices were being used for illegal purposes, let alone the outweighing of the protections and security it DOES PROVIDE to LAW ABIDING CITIZENS who wish to protect their persons and property... Guns are the least of the problem... only the CRIMINALS carry them, use regular folk get shot while waiting for the Police to arrive..

Consenting to the search or NOT... well, if you are caught up in the stop and frisk program, go ahead and refuse and see what happens...

Tomislander, you miss read my posts, I never said the wonderful officers aren't doing ENOUGH, I have now problem with that, as a matter of fact you'll see I am pointing out that they are doing TOO MUCH! I complain that they are given too much liberty at the expense of my RIGHTS and FREEDOMS... There is a difference! Don't cloud the issue by putting words in my mouth...

does anyone remember when this was a free country and not a police state? East Berlin would have nothing on us now, "Papers Please".
Does anyone remember when you could leave your doors and windows open and not worry about anyone home invading you, when your kids could go out an play in the streets without worrying about being abducted, when you could walk down the street at 10-11 o'clock at night and not worry about possibly getting mugged or killed, I do. We need the police now a days this state has become a crime state. Keep up the good work, NYPD, SCPD, and NCPD. What ever it takes to stop these thugs do it.

I would rather do the right thing and stand for my rights in which I have for being a citizen of this country and deal with whatever happens then to contribute to the erosion of our rights. Because of that I can sleep better at night. Anyone that is willing to give up their rights for convenience and/or fake security should be considered a traitor to this country. The reason that the police are still frisking/searching innocent people is because they are letting them. If everyone knew/practiced their constitutional rights then there would be no unnecessary searches. And furthermore many people have died so that we would have rights and freedoms and it would be a slap in their face to give them up.

This entire issue will be over in about a year anyway. Technology has been developed where police can detect a gun, knife or other weapon on a person from as far as 300 feet away. Originally developed for military use, it will be available to police departments throughout the US as well. Fools walking around with weapons will be soon be quickly stopped in their tracks.
