let's see...the pants and shirt are dry cleaned. what's he going to wash? his undershirt, boxers and socks? only a long island school administrator could say something so ridiculous with a straight face. Cuomo is going to see what he is dealing with when he grills some of these jokers on thursday...not very bright people coupled with unbridled arrogance and a sense of invincibility. the best part is that they'll be under oath...

Wowie,$140,000 in renovations for the office of Levittown's school superintendent??

Enjoy your HIGHER AND HIGHER TAXES, Long Island people!!
Keep voting for higher, higher, higher school taxes based on tear-jerk ads of how you're "helping the kids". Not so.!

LI Taxpayers are the CASH COW for corrupt administrators' fancy perks and a CORRUPT SCHOOL SYSTEM.

It's time to DESTROY THE DISTRICTS that rob us at tax time and all the time with their INSANE SPENDING.

Who cares about a damn bathroom with a shower...hes the most senior person for the LUFSD...lots of other CEO's and Presidents and other bosses in the private sector have their own bathrooms...big deal...not to mention this superintendent has put in 30 yrs just for the LUFSD (23 alone as boss)...he oversees almost 8,000 students from levittown, n wantagh and seaford and over 1,000 staff...

HEY NEWSDAY...id like to know his normal schedule...does he work 10, 11, 12+ hours day...

oh wait...it says in the article that HE SLEEPS IN THE OFFICE!!!! hmmm i think it would be nice to shower before work, right...

id also like to know how many of the other 124 LI superintendents sleep in their office or even how many have bathrooms too

"holes in the old carpet"
"It was pretty disgusting, to tell you the truth,"
"office hadn't been redone since the 1980s"

I live in the LUFSD and i say its about time for it to get redone!!!!!!

Yeah, maybe the washer/dryer is over the top...he could just bring/store extra clothes but everything else is called for

this whole thing is JOKE...all newsday wants to do is to create drama between LUFSD tax payers and senior LUFSD staff...they want an uproar...Newsday and News12 (who are now about to be one in the same) love to create this b s tension because it makes for a good read or tv.

$140,000? for a bathroom, washer/dryer, and some renovation to the office???? If you can't get a lower bid on a job like that, you're an idiot - or a crook ....$50,000 would have been plenty....

Then why did the Levittown Board of Education in the early 80's fire Dr, Sirois? Perhaps, he didnt bring his own detergent and softener.

"Sirois has taken considerable heat since announcing last summer that the district had a $7-million budget shortfall. Now he says the district might be forced to cut 15 teaching positions along with an undetermined number of classroom aide jobs. Sirois has said there is no link between the proposed job cuts and the budget shortfall in 2006-2007."

HEY NEWSDAY!!!

Id love for you and News12 to clear-up something both of you local media outlets messed up, causing an uproar back in march, during that Divison Ave walkout...

FACT:

According to the Levittown School District 2006 Annual Report, district enrollment has been on a steady decrease at all schools since it's peak of 8,028 in 2003/04.
(you geniuses used old state info to say enrollment was up, which is true, but not taking into account future enrollment numbers)

In that '06 report it says that between '04 and '10 the LUFSD will have almost 500 LESS STUDENTS.

Between this school year and next around enrollment will be 150 less.

LESS STUDENTS = LESS TEACHERS

Common Sense !!!!

Yes some of these teachers are good people but we cant pay for extra teachers that we dont need, not when taxes are so high already...if there are less students less teachers are needed plain and simple.

For those of you who live in the LUFSD, Dont take my word...look for yourself here(then click the link 2006 Annual Report)

http://www.levittownschools.com/about/

Starting in 2000/01 school yr, there was an anomaly of 5 consecutive years of 100+ extra students. Starting this June these students will start to graduate from the district. That entire anomaly will be gone by the end of the '12 school year.

What a waste of money. This is NOT the private sector, it is PUBIC.

However, Herman will probably post pro-Superintendent comments all night since he can wake up, shower, do his laundry.

Is one of teh rooms a bedroom.

Mike Bloomberg office- small, glass walls a desk and two chairs.

Maybe Herm can learn something from him.

Time has come to consolidate school districts.
Divide the county into quadrants.
One reasonably salaried Supt. and Asst. Supt. for each. Principal responsible for a few buildings, asst. principal in charge of a building and teachers assigned, perhaps to a couple of schools, as needed.
Custodians, ground keepers work for the county system and could be moved about as needed. All purchasing done on a county-wide basis.
There are numerous ways to save taxpayer's money and improve efficiency but no one has the balls to do it. So,Long Island will continue to be taxed to death until it collapses under its own financial burdens.
Also, out here Sheriff Joe has a well trained Posse. All unpaid volunteers, many armed, who have the exact same firearms qualifications(qualified armed possemen) as every police officer in the state who do a lot of the "police work" working with certified deputies. This cuts down on the need for many sworn officers. NY should try it. It works and the PBA's would loses some of their power and the need for $100,000+/yr. officers would be reduced.

Where does he live? There is no way any Superintendent is sleeping in their office. Even if his commute were an hour, it would be easier to drive home and get back than to wash/dry clothes. It would be easier to bring a change of clothes?? Hmmm.

this guy can't go home and change clothes? bring some fresh ones knowing he will work late? sleeping in the office would require a bed i would think. how far does this clown live that he can't go home to take a shower? just how late do the meetings run that this would be an impossible feat to do, like most ppl do now? is this guy really going to do his own laundry? seems like if he had "his own ppl" do the work then they must make more than a contractor would. this job should never have cost 140,000 dollars. welcome to more high taxes folks.
