My reaction to gas prices are: what a load of crock!
Cutting supply and telling the U.S. that they are running out of oil, Opec should be ashamed to be black mailing the country, I wish we knew what Saudi's and the other opec countries wanted for them to be pulling all this.

US needs to open its reserves and help out the american people. I am tired of hearing about the profits of these oil companies. I want to know how I can pay less for gas. Congress needs to do something now and Hilary Clinton needs to come back to NY and help fix our states problems. She is still our senator along with Shummer. As a student I can't afford gas and school. Darn all the politicians.

Wake up! The US still has one of the lowest prices for gas in the WORLD. Try driving in Europe ...$8 per gallon. So, stop complaining and ask for a pay raise.

long Islanders should look at the parking lots at their jobs each employee drive to work by them selves instead of finding an coworker that live near them so they can car pool switching cars once a week

Europe has higher gas prices because they don't use it as much as this gas guzzling nation.

I see London.
I see France.
I don't see yuppies and soccer moms driving around in huge SUVs every day in their pointless lives in Europe.

Take the train for once, people. No one's complaining about the fare hike from the MTA in March anymore. Cuz it's still cheaper.

What, no mention of the "windfall profits" the government makes on a gallon of gas? It's right up there with the profit the oil company makes. At least the oil company provides the service of obtaining, refining, and delivering the gas. What does the government do to warrant their open hand?

Yeah, we all want to be free of our dependancy on oil in the long haul, but we need to address this issue in the short term (5-15 years) with the creation of additional US refineries and environmentally responsible US oil drilling (which is NOT an oxymoron as some would want you to believe. Its 2008, not 1908).

NEWSDAY is nothing more than a one sided paper playing with the Public not reporting actuaul news. How come there are such few comment forums compared to a week ago? I'll tell ya why cause Newsday dosn't want us to discuss the TRUTH only their version.

The media reports "record earnings/profits", but if you read the finer details you'd realize Big Pharma and other types of corporation make a great profit percentage than Big Oil.

Priced-Out ... What you fail to realize is the tax you pay the gov't on gas is used to improved roadways and bridges.

If most people on this island weren't devoting 40%+ of their income to artificially inflated homes, maybe we could all afford $4.00 gas.

Americans need to stop whining about high gas prices. We should have seen this coming for years, but instead we have been marching blindly towards an economic precipice with no help in sight. While we should have been investing in alternative fuels, we debated drilling in Alaska. While we should have been developing new technology, we invested instead in a war. Most telling of all, while we all should have been buying fuel-efficient vehicles, we instead bought Hummers and Escalades. We have known since the 1970s that oil is a scarce resource with volatile supply levels, yet not one major policy decision or purchasing trend since the last major fuel crisis has embraced a sensible alternative. To put it very simply, we are now reaping what we ourselves have sown, and finding the crop not to our liking.

Europe pays the same amount of money for a barrel of oil as we do. The difference is how much more their goverments tax the gas. I'm more worried about home heating oil prices than of gas. We can find ways to not use the car or get a more fuel efficient model. But in the winter, we must heat our homes. It's not an option.

Yeah, the much improved roadways and bridges of Long Island...

I pay over 30% of my gross income to the government, then they tax every sales transaction you make, they tax your gas, your property, the roads you drive on, and yet it's never enough.... and you see little results. It amazes me that people would want to expand government with the track record it has.

How about the stupidity of our government! Subsidizing vehicles over 6000 pounds for business owners. Did you know they just about pay for these gas guzzlers and who do you think ultimately pays for it!
We can wait for the morons in office! We are the customers we can make them change! Do what ever you can to get off oil products! No matter how small! Make their investments worth less, then watch what will happen. Money is the only thing they understand! We must change our thinking!!!!!

I read some of these posts and ask a simple question... Why does ANY one company need to profit 20 Billion dollars in a quarter? oil Company's do... Do you all realize that if they made half that money we would probably be paying half as much at the pumps? Who cares who's fault it is... Can anyone find a solution rather then point fingers?

We do not give Israel 1 trillion dollars a year. This is just an ignorant comment that is easily dismissed.

It just amazes me some of the things people say on these comments.

Don't forget that Many European Governments control their gas prices. This is where their government gets a decent amount of their money, not through taxes. We are just getting raked from both ends.
