Judge calls Indian `tribe' bogus, orders it to pay damages

A federal judge has ordered a $63,000 civil judgment against four people who claim to be chiefs of an American Indian tribe in eastern Utah .

I AM VERY GLAD THAT THE Massachusetts tribe has also protested what this group of Utah nuts are doing. Native American tribes should stand proud of their heritage. People that have only a few drops of Native American blood running in their veins and try to make trade on it are scum. These people in Utah are disgusting to say the least. The Native Americans have always been treated as less than human by white european settlers. It makes you wonder who the real "savages" were: the people who didn't believe in Jesus or the people who sent them blankets laced with Small Pox.

The casinos are a way the Native Americans can finally support themselves after losing all their lands, their mobility and their dignity.

I think these guys were just trying to see if the 'law' was twisted and convoluted enough. Perhaps the govt has painted itself into some legal corner. They were just too cheap to hire a good lawyer. I'm sure there are more than a few that could have somehow convinced the govt that they are wrong...Perhaps take it to the 9th court in San Francisco...those guys will buy any argument ! Their ruling provide ample evidence of that.
