Both parties are at fault here. Drilling in the US has been banned for decades now, while we have had Republicans and Democrats in control. The difference is some Republicans seem to be willing to lift the ban on drilling. Proof? The price of a barrel of oil dropped significantly, by close to $20 a barrel when Bush lifted the EO ban on offshore drilling.

It is time we stop sending our money to the Middle East and drill in the US. Think of all the tax revenues the Govt and States will get with all the revenue generated from drilling. Democrats have to love that.

Blaming the oil companies is foolish and incorrect.

It is time we wake up as a nation and start using the resources we have and handle this situation like grown ups.

What about when Clinton was president and the Democrats controlled congress? Why didn't they do something to help us out? If we had started drilling then we wouldn't be in this mess. Stop blaming people and become part of the solution.

This is the stuff that the drive by media has fed you over the years, that the rich don't pay taxes, and the lower and middle classes do. As someone else said the upper class pay a whole lot more in taxes than the middle and lower classes do. Wehave a progresive tax system, the more you earn the more you pay.
The difference is that the rich can lve on what's left, and the rest of us can't.

So improve yourself and get a higher paying job. Let go of the self imposed restrictions! Find your passion and go for it. This is the United States of America where anything is possible for those who are willing to work hard for it. One other thing, STOP buying into the class warfare of the left, it will only make you miserable.

What is your solution then? You offer criticism, yet no solutions. You lay blame at the feet of one man who had tried to and did make a difference by lifting the "EO" and the price dropped. Again, where are your brilliant ideas? Do tell so we can all be enlightened as you!

But this is what the liberals, aided by the drive by media, do to the American public. They create class envy, they tell people that the rich are evil and that only government can help get you ahead.
You can tell people to work harder, get a better education, go out and make something of yourself, but most people would rather win "the lottery" to get ahead.(The lottery can be any form of get rich by not working hard scheme).

If the "rich" (define that) are taxed to the point where they can "live on what's left" where will the investable wealth that drives the economy (and your job as a result) come from? Who will want to build a business here?

I guess you think its the Gooberment's job to 'create jobs' by redistribution of wealth.

Usual non-thought-through drivel from a left-leaning minion, but it makes a good election year talking point for Otaxaboma. Too bad the economy is rocking along regardless of the audacious hope of the Democrats: http://www.reuters.com/article/businessNews/i...

Im not sure a company that produces a product the nation had dearly depended upon, should be earning a profit at the rate of $1500/second (Exxon Q2). Since the govt is one of its biggest customers and we are paying for the govt as taxpayers. That is not "capitalism at its best" Usury anyone? Follow the money....

Schumer,is a Shyster low life politican...A master of deceit.

While in the Senate ,he and his Obama supporters will not do a dam thing to at least talk about this energy crises.

Much of NYS is rural. Those people will suffer .Along with gas and heating oil it will be an emergency.
That socialist senator from Vermont ,and Schummer are obstructionist's One side of their moths they will not allow any debate, the other ,of course is the blame game.....most do not give a dam about politics,.most want some action.

The very people who do the most obstruction to new power, are the one who now preach fear, dispare, and throw the jerks a few buck!

The,the Democrats are waiting for the expected one,Obama.his cure for America is a crucible of pain.
this in the name of some as of yet ,nebulous theory!

The elitist,Harvard Marxist ,new crew ,coming, will destroy our standard of life. They want a uniworld concept, with us giving what we got to those who are getting more than we!

Sounds like The Preacher talking to me!..Hey 20+ yrs following that Racist..it rubs off.

Take from us,and tax us more,do nothing about the problem today..Presto Ya got a third world country.

Schumer, and all senators, are not monet wise affected with this...as long as he has power, and money..its OK with all those move on. liberal ****!!
LET THE OIL FLOW!!...DRILL DRILL!..MORE THAN 75% of Americans want too!!....not OBAMA!!

So you're going to start regulating profits now? That will be a sure way to encourage development of businesses in this country.
The only obligation that corporations have is to sell you a product at a price that you're willing to pay. If you want to cry about profits, become a communist and move to China.

No, not on regular business in a capitalist society. But oil is not a commodity that we can do without at the present time, therefore it should not be subject to price volatility on the market by both domestic and foreign capital. We should get oil & gas off the Exchange so the Fed can develop and maintain a constructive (read productive) long-term energy policy, not as dependent upon external political influences.

First- the Fed is the LAST people we want running anything, let alone oil/gas. Why on earth anybody would want the federal government in charge of anything is beyond me. Just because someone is elected to Congress does not make them smart or an authoriy on anything.

2nd- Who can't do with out oil? You don't need to drive. You do not need electricity. It is a luxury.

Which is ridiculous on its face, given it would be the better part of decade before any oil products from such drilling entered the downline stream.

More likely a case of speculator concern that the ICE and London Loophole would soon be closed.

No, the answer is development of Alternative Energy sources (wean off oil), conversion of current petroleum consumers to plentiful locally-sourced clean coal and natgas, and allocation of refined oil product to uses for which there is no ready substitute.
